I honestly want to know. Are people calling into Phoenix sports radio and demanding that ASU fire Herb?

/NC State fans are probably laughing their asses off right now.

2007-02-15 08:41:29 AM
Sounds like the Devils got the forking this time.

2007-02-15 11:16:55 AM
They didn't suck too much handing Boston College it's own ass last night.

2007-02-15 11:19:06 AM
I went to ASU, and we fired herb all the time.

/Yea 80's

2007-02-15 11:20:39 AM
Let me guess they are sit BCS favorites though.

/before you try correcting me look up satire

Yeah well, win or lose, we drink more booze.

2007-02-15 11:23:24 AM
Let's see...ASU has:

- Top 5 student body population;
- Top 5 party school;
- 70°F winter weather;
- Baberific campus;
- Relatively cheap tuition;
- Relatively low academic standards for general studies (so much so, that it's a cliche on "The Simpsons");
- Other than baseball, CAN'T PUT A DECENT SPORTS TEAM TOGETHER?!?!?

What are they lacking? Facilities? A fan base? Oh, wait...a competent athletic director.

rikdanger:

sounds like the perfect school.

the fact they cant put together a decent sports team should be considered a good thing. College sports should be a low priority item for a school.

2007-02-15 11:28:06 AM
As a current ASU student, I must admit I was completely unaware of this.

/Doesn't pay attention to sports.

All coed populations pale in comparison to U. of Alabama.

/Did not Roll Tide, myself.
//Just appreciate a good Tide Roll

rikdanger said what I was going to say.

UNC_Samurai local talk here in the Phoenix area is all about how the Suns suck without Steve Nash. Plus this is Herb's first year and no one here really cares about ASU basketball the same way Kentucky does or UNC or even Butler.

2007-02-15 11:30:34 AM
tweekster - it would be a good thing, if ASU didn't spend so much money on it.

2007-02-15 11:31:48 AM
As a NC State alum, I wasn't sad to see Herb leave, but I didn't want to see this happen to him either.

That being said, does anyone NOW think NC State was so wrong to let him go? They took a lot of heat at the time...

/Not laughing my ass off
//Genuinely wanted him to succeed

Let's see...ASU has:

ASU has sports teams? That's interesting.

/getting drunk on mill is a sport too.

I work about 5 minutes away from the ASU campus. A trip to Mill during my lunch break is always a nice reprieve from the office.

I don't see this happening. It still baffles me that a school this big has teams that are so bad.

Tuscon sucks and Flagstaff is boring to an 18 year old valley girl.

ASU is the best option.

"The Sun Devils also will add 6-foot-10 center Eric Boateng, a transfer from Duke, where he earned little playing time as a freshman"

Nuff said.

2007-02-15 11:48:06 AM
As an NC State fan, this made my day.

It's time for Herb to scrap the Princeton offense.

It won't get any better for them out there, as Herb can't recruit to save his life.

2007-02-15 11:54:28 AM
Wow...that actually makes me feel a little bit better, because Pepperdine's season has really sucked, but at least we've won a few games.

//Hate to see this happen to ASU.

Being a new farker, could someone explain the animosity towards Duke? Apparently some seem to think that they suck pretty badly as I see it as a tagline to many posts.

2007-02-15 12:03:58 PM
This is something the friends at UofA like to point out to me all the time.

Of course, it's because they would otherwise be sitting on their hands, which is the 2nd most exciting thing to do in Tucson.

I love the NC State fans who are coming out of the woodwork to bash Herb. Very brave considering the Wolfpack is lighting up the ACC at 3-8.

/But you beat Carolina so that makes it all good right?

2007-02-15 12:17:44 PM
Maybe they can recruit JJ Reddick from the NBA to spark their offense.

Drew the guy who created Fark is from Kentucky. It stems mostly from Duke's epic win against Kentucky in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament of 2002 when Laettner hit the gamewinner.

Also a lot of people get annoyed because other team's fans are criticized as being rude and vulgar (Maryland) but when Duke's does the same it's a "great environment". Also when there are close games in Cameron, the clock always seems to malfunction in the last minute and lo and behold end up in Duke's favor.

Also, although they're the "Yankees" of college basketball and are constantly lauded more than any other program (sometimes deservedly), nobody ever points out that teams such as Connecticut, North Carolina and Kentucky have won more national championships since 1993 than Duke.

I don't know if you're a NC State fan or making fun of them by "agreeing" with me. But I've lived in North Carolina all my life and never uderstood the MUST WIN rivalry. I mean Herb averaged more than 19 wins a year at NC State and was on a 5 year NCAA Tournament run. I just think State fans are crazy if they honestly would rather have a losing team that beats Duke or Carolina than to have one that doesn't but is generally in the field of 65 every year.

2007-02-15 12:36:07 PM
Thanks tatsumaki4ryu. That explains the sour grapes. GO DUKE!!

Although I liked ShillinTheVillain's answer better.

ASU might actually beat UCLA tonight. UCLA is banged up, and the game is at ASU.

2007-02-15 12:48:14 PM
To be fair to ASU, the Pac10 is by far the toughest conference in the nation when it comes to sports. Nobody else even comes close.

/The Sun Devils beat the fourth best team in the Big10 this year.

2007-02-15 12:48:29 PM
Hey Jeb...1992 not 2002. In 2002 you must've been pulling those bingers @ Appalachian?

2007-02-15 01:01:56 PM
the pac10 is not the toughest conference. top to bottom the ACC is. the ACC has 8 teams in the top 40. the pac10 has 5.

2007-02-15 01:02:21 PM
I'm an ASU alum twice over (BS,JD), and honestly, I've made peace with basketball sucking. UofA loves to remind us about that, but then I just mention that we've beaten them three straight times in football and the subject quickly gets changed for some reason.

Football has underachieved a bit for a couple years now but should improve now with Erickson, who has done well at college postings but mediocre in the NFL. The one thing that made me scream "fire Koetter!" was in 2005 when USC came to ASU undefeated, trailed 21-3 at the half, and then somehow came back to win it (behind Reggie Bush), making it the first time in HISTORY that a #1 ranked team had beaten ASU at Sun Devil Stadium. All the times that had happened before, ASU had sent them home broken.

ASU sucks more than Duke.

Cause if is, believe me, you're wrong.

Hey What_Would_Jimi_Do, why dont you go ahead and read what I wrote one more time. In regards to rikdanger complaining about ASU not being very good at sports, I said the Pac10 was the toughest Conference in nation. This is absolutely true. UCLA and USC alone have more championships than any CONFERENCE in the country.

/They call the Pac10 "The Conference of Champions" for a reason

I don't know how you get stats for the top 40 teams WWJD (as they only go to 25), but the Pac-10 at least is in the top 2 conferences (and I still think #1) with 7 different teams being ranked in the top 25 through the season and 5 right now. I predict there will be 6 Pac-10 teams in the tourney. I expect UW to just miss it this year, which is sweet revenge for cougar fans, but it would still be cool to have 7/10 teams from the conference playing.

That being said, sweeping U-dub two seasons in a row was farking awesome! It's great to see how Coach Bennett (the younger) has kept his father's system, but improved it by coaching (a little) more offense. It's good to see all of the sophomores from last year gel into a really good squad with surprising depth in Rochestie, Chivers (well should be), Baines, and Harmeling just exploding this year. I'm trying to get some tickets to the UCLA game this year, hopefully my friends can find some scalpers.

/Go Cougs!
