I'll bet he loves to explain that Porsche to his congregation members who are having a hard time putting food on their table, or paying to heat their home, yet they're tithing to a corrupt church out of faith. Say what you will about what they're giving to, but the fact of the matter is that this church is a corrupt organization. Someone really does need to send the IRS after them.

"the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."

I don't have a problem with this guy living the high life on the backs on stupid people. Nobody forced people to send him money.

With that out of the way... if he has violated tax law I'd like to see him prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Fark him. I pay a farking farkload of taxes so I have no sympathy for anyone who doesn't (and thereby inflates my tax bill in the future).

The congregation was presented with the annual report, which said the church had $34 million in gross revenues last year and gave $3 million to charitable causes and evangelism.

That's some good preachin' there, Pastor. I thought that Catholic priests were a bit extravagant, but this is farking ridiculous.

They should also be interested in why he had Michelle Bachman give a 'sermon' or campaign speech in front of his congregation and also be interested in asking him why he said, from the pulpit, 'I'm voting for her'

Fracking ridiculous. He should have his tax exempt status revoked.

This "prosperity gospel" out there now is one of the biggest scams going.

Here's a hint for people of that church: giving a huge percentage of your salary to some douchebag so he can buy a Porsche is not a way to "prosperity."

"Prosperity gospel" is nothing more than feel-good religious pablum served to the wealthy to soothe their guilt at being rich. It's Christianity as written by C. Montgomery Burns.

If they actually bothered to read that fancy bible they bought, they might get the idea that their deity would appreciate them spending a lot of money helping the poor instead of buying a new Mercedes or BMW.

But then, they'd have to actually make changes in their life based on their faith, instead of finding somebody who will tell them they're going to heaven and are blessed in addition to being rich and not giving a damn about the people beneath them.

If you think that being a virtuous and holy man means God will heap prosperity on you, try reading the Book of Job sometime.

Greedy theology, greedy minister.

/not a Christian
//Book of Job is one big reason why, Exodus is another.

Evangelical != Televangelist

Although in fairness to 'televangelists' the catholics (not a catholic myself, I dont' know why they keep sneaking into my examples here) have a TV channel that I've never seen ask for money that airs for the most part very thoughtful/tasteful programming.

Probably nobody watches it though, whereas farking 'Creflo Dollar' has great ratings. I think the problem is that we have a culture of people who aren't interested in difficult messages that challenge their character and their intellect. Jesus says follow me and suffer for me and you'll be blessed. Benny Hinn says follow me and you'll be driving a brand new car next year!

Can you imagine what garners a wider audience?

I think that's common to both the secular and religious spheres in a basically fat, stupid, self indulgent, and lazy nation. The real message is always going to be a tough sell and appeal only to a few. The path being narrow and steep and all that.

I work at a CPA office in Ballard, WA.

What Im going to tell you is advice you should take.

DONT CHEAT ON YOUR TAXES, THE IRS WILL WIN. THE IRS ALWAYS WINS. DONT RISK IT. ALSO, DONT E-FILE, YOUR CHANCES OF BEING AUDITED ARE FAR HIGHER. THERE IS AN AUDITOR IN THE OFFICE AS I TYPE THIS, HES NOT VERY NICE.

I already had a low opinion of this clown before, but that statement pretty much sums up what's wrong with him. And I'm fairly certain that Jesus preached against that kind of thinking...

If you think that being a virtuous and holy man means God will heap prosperity on you, try reading the Book of Job sometime.

That's a bad example, since in Job God actually DOES heap prosperity on the virtuous and holy man Job on two seperate occasions (with some bad stuff in between).

Job is a complex book, and a beautiful piece of literature even if you aren't religious... and it means a lot of things. But in my opinion the primary message of Job is that God is soveriegn and does not answer to us or our desires, but rather that we are to answer to him.
