(MSNBC)   You just stole $6.9 million from your boss. Do you: A) Lay low and spend little, thereby keeping your new found wealth a secret? Or B) Buy a life-sized statue of Al Capone and hire Burt Bacharach for a private concert at your new ranch?   (msnbc.msn.com) divider line 106

You remember what happened to Frankie Carbone in the movie Goodfellas when he bought the new Cadillac? He ended up hanging from a hook in a meat freezer.

Carbone didn't buy the Caddy-- Johnny Roast Beef did (it was in his mother's name). Carbone bought his wife a full-length mink coat.

And she said it's really a sin to be mean and cruel.

Prosecutors to recommended a four-year and seven-month sentence.
For stealing nearly $7,000,000.

It's just a damn good thing she never got busted buying a bag of weed.

I would slowly launder the money through a business that overs services but no goods. A sexy maid service, or something.

I'm going to go out on a limb here - Superman III wasn't that bad. I mean, it's not great cinema by any means, but at least it had a sense of humor and didn't take itself too seriously. And let's not forget how bad Superman I was. I mean, time travel, by reversing the spin of the earth?

Must be an awesome accounting department that doesn't notice a million dollars a year disappearing.

Had that been me, that money would be sitting in the Caymans waiting for me to put the down payment on a place next to Tiger Woods' beach house on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

She should have bought 6.9 million lotto tickets.

C) Swiss Bank Account. Come on, this is so easy. But then again, that'd been too easy!

Why did she buy such stupid crap?

And her master plan consisted of writing herself checks? For a million a year?

The mind boggles.

FTA The charge carries a maximum of 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine.

For stealing 7M? And she's looking at 4 yrs + restitution. White crime sure pays better and comes with less risk than pushing a little green stuff.

I'll give you a laugh - a guy here in the UK just got convicted of running a bogus storage company. He ripped off people to the tune of £200,000+ from selling their stuff, not to mention the loss of the personal possessions and associated memories. He showed no remorse and pleaded guilty and was told by the judge he was motivated by greed and basically wasn't a nice person.

His sentence? 52 weeks suspended prison sentence (ie no time at all) and a £2,500 fine and as far as I know there was NO mention of paying anybody back. Hell, the "law" is indeed a joke in this country.

You know, 4.5 years in prison doesn't sound like that bad a deal if she had been smart with the money. 7 mill over 4 years, let's say she'd been taking 1.75 mill a year. You invest that at 10% over the 4 years and even after you pay all the original money back you have :

$1.95 mill and change. Hell, even if she got whacked with the $250K fine she still has 1.70 million.

I can think of worse ways to make 1.7 million dollars in a decade..

And if she reinvests that at 10% while in prison...

2.49 million waiting when she gets out.

Oddly enough, if she had been the CEO of the company she embezzled from, and had stolen SIXTY million dollars, she probably wouldn't have gotten in as much trouble.

Go big or go home. Good for her. Ten years max and 250K fine? There'd be thousands in prison doing that kinda time for a $1500 take from a gas station.
