You rang?
2007-02-10 11:42:48 AM
The sound of that thing when it first sees you still gives me chills.
2007-02-10 11:46:57 AM
BTW, Phobos is real, Doom is just another damn game.
2007-02-10 11:47:06 AM
I still think Doom, Corridor 7, Blake Stone 3D, and Wolfenstein 3D are some of the most fun FPS games ever.

Doom2 > Doom3

Because my framerate was higher.

FTFA: Whoever is chosen may well have to watch the Russians give it a go first. They are currently working on a project known as Phobos-Grunt...

Now that's a catchy name! Is it related to sound the probe makes?

I loved her in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. That sceen where she took off her top was awesome.

Anybody know how I can play Doom on my PS2? This is a serious question.

Personally, I think if it takes that long to get this mission to Phobos, man won't have landed on mars let alone built any type of sustainable habitation on the moon by the time Mankind gets itself extinct from stupidity... If man lives another 150 years, I'll be quite surprised.

DOOM is the reason I bought my first PC back in '94. Before DOOM came out, I just couldn't see much use for a home computer.

It was a 486/66 with a huge 420MB hard drive, and I also sprang for the 8MB of RAM instead of just 4MB. 14" monitor and Logitech three-button mouse. Total cost - $1931.38.

Just remember, one meter equals 39.37 inches.

Doom was released for the PSX in 95. You could also get it for the computer and use something like ZDoom and a gamepad (which I've been able to do with the 360 controllers).

Doesn't that price tag just kill you?

I just built this for under that amount (with 19"tft lcd):

e6600 C2D @ 3.30MHZ (Cooled by Zalman 9700cu)
EVGA 680i SLI Mobo
3GB Corsair XMS2 800mhz (2x1024GB; 2x512GB)
2xWD 250 Caviar 3GB/s
Bluegears b-Enspirer HD Audio with the s/pdif out to these..
Abit iDome 2.1 digital speaks

The project sounds needlessly complicated. Just land the whole spacecraft.
2007-02-10 01:04:45 PM
did someone say Phobos? :)
2007-02-10 01:08:19 PM

/surprised it hasn't been posted yet.

even money that probe experiences 'technical dificulties' before landing.
2007-02-10 01:14:05 PM
Corridor 7 was an awesome game!
2007-02-10 01:15:43 PM

Phobos! I declare Martian law!
2007-02-10 01:35:40 PM

Not as much as my buddy, whose first IBM PC cost in the neighborhood of $5K and ran from 5.25" floppies. He thought he'd died and gone to heaven when he was able to install a 40MB hard drive for only a grand or so.

Anybody know how I can play Doom on my PS2? This is a serious question.

Yeah: find the PS1 versions. They're widely considered the greatest console ports of Doom ever.
2007-02-10 02:16:54 PM
My father bought me a PC Jr for $2000 when I was a kid. Had a blast programming that thing in MS-Dos when I was a kid.

You absolutely must play Rise of the Triad if you haven't already. It's ace.

Doom? Fark that.
Still waiting for the Leather Goddesses.

Oh, swank, I got a greenlight. The other terrible cliche I thought about was "UAC Spokesman unavailable for comment."

Gordon Bennett:

Oh yeah! Forgot "Rise Of The Triad"! Yessir, you are correct. It's a right kickass little game indeed.

Mmm, basking in the warm glow of Doom memories.
Does anybody know where I can download the music? I still know all the tracks and rock out to them on occaision whenever I find one or two...
