When I was going to college and living close to campus, the cable companies would go door to door every semester. When they had an appointment at one apartment, they would go around the rest of the complex offering deals and what not.

The other article about the women that was going to be out of commission because of gastric bypass signing a contract with her 15 year old daughter to have sex with her boyfriend in exchange for piercings was much better.

Your cable company is what sucks. Cox Communications has natural-gas connected generators in little boxes on the sides of the road that provide backup power to all of the sub-nodes in the event of a power failure.

Of course, they kind of have to since they provide telephone service over cable, and the cable has line voltage that powers the phone terminal device.

Time Warner, et al use a combination cable modem/phone adapter that WILL crap out in a power failure unless you have your own UPS. Time Warner sucks.
