Yes, while energy stocks will drop, better effeciency will help every other sector of the economy.

While I think Gore is probably the smartest politician we've seen in decades, I Lol'd at this headline.

2007-02-05 11:23:09 PM
Well, once these guys get their system into full swing, these same energy companies will have another source of revenue. The CO2 they emit in their operations becomes a viable feedstock for algae-based biofuels.

Wow, the spin doctors worked overtime on that phrase to try to make it sound like something bad.

Still a much better deal than a house. Get some energy funds when they crater. Reap rewards when humanity collectively shrugs its shoulders and keeps gobbling up the primordial ooze.

Everyone's ridiculing this statement but no one's put forth an example of a smarter, recent politician.

And policy guys who don't run for election (e.g., James Baker) don't count.

This is the energy price for August 8 2006 in the northeast for Electricity. Prices are per MWh. They correspond to about $1 per kWh. This does not include the transmission cost, only generation.

They got that way because of a very hot day, and a couple of heat related grid and plant failures. The casinos were shut down because of the power emergency. The next time someone wants to build an electric plant in your backyard, BUILD IT.

Texas Joe Constantine: Gore is quite stupid, objectively speaking.

Just because you use the word "quite" doesn't mean you're a smart and fancy British person.

And for the record, Al Gore is a freakin' genius. You know why? Because it's a scientific fact that living with Tommy Lee Jones makes one a freakin' genius.

I can make unsupported statements too!

2007-02-05 11:56:27 PM
Energy stocks fall because most energy companies too stupid to diversify into green fuels or are only making a token effort for PR purposes. In other news, it's difficult to make long-term plans when most of your shareholders are short-sighted and just want to flip you for a quick buck.

well I wasn't making a closing argument in superior court...just stating an opinion, but surely no one honestly thinks "the smartest politician we've seen in decades"...certianly not Bill Clinton, who may be the smartest politician we've seen in decades, or if you think Al's #1 since '87 then really, there's no point to continue. You ar right, yes you are! there now, how about a spot of tea mate?

War on Drugs
War on Terror

Texas Joe Constantine: mate?????????

I get it. So now you're a pirate.

The guy isn't stupid. I agree, he's probably not the smartest politician (especially compared to Clinton.) But I think suggesting that he's on par with Corky from Life Goes On is a bit of a stretch.

Oh, and I almost forgot... Yippee ki-yay, YEEE HAAA!, and Hi-yo Silver, away!

Al Gore is/was right. About a great many things.

Just wait and see how the energy companies whine when we hit them with retroactive windfall profits taxes to fund National Healthcare in 2009.

HA HA!!

It is impossible to tell the actual intelligence of a high politician, but most of them are probably smarter than you are. After all, out of millions who would take the job, these individuals had whatever it took to get them there. Perhaps they're charismatic, perhaps they're ruthless, perhaps they're altruistic or they're sinister and manipulative, but I'd wager that rather few of them are going to be any less than bright.

And make a comment about Bush being dumb, please, as if that means anything. If the most powerful political figure in the country looks foolish to you, it is more likely that you are being fooled.

Unless this is some new-fangled form of sarcasm, I'd say you need to brush up on the definition of the word 'objective'.

What Gore lacks in intelligence he makes up for in mesmerizing charisma....

2007-02-06 12:52:56 AM
Policy mandated demand destruction? since 2002 oil prices have tripled. This is an awkward case of politicians trying to score points for something they can't reasonably take "credit" for.

Two points to make here.

And make a comment about Bush being dumb, please, as if that means anything.

The man fell off a Segway and was almost assassinated by a pretzel. Harry S. Truman this guy ain't.

If the most powerful political figure in the country looks foolish to you, it is more likely that you are being fooled.

A figure that looks foolish to me looks foolish to our enemies as well. One big spiral.
