Who's got Jan 31st in the "Chavez officially becomes a dictator" pool?

2007-01-31 02:51:24 PM
Hitler.

2007-01-31 02:52:08 PM
Oh, great. Now everybody has to come rushing into *this* thread to re-post their trolly comments from all the *other* threads. Sheesh.

2007-01-31 02:53:04 PM
And you weren't fast enough, ARN. This one would have been much better starting off with your post, just like the other one was.

2007-01-31 03:02:13 PM
Ah, I see. Chavez is being groomed as the local boogeyman for when Castro dies.

Oh, no! A second-world dictator in South America! Will the world survive??

Isn't this the dude with a lot of oil hanging around? So, there's that...and the whole "What if his buddies get their hands on a nukular weapon?" thing.

Not saying I'm quaking in my boots, just maybe something to think about.

2007-01-31 03:08:29 PM
It is scary to think one man would have that much power.

2007-01-31 03:08:37 PM
Oh shiat now he has the power to make executive decisions like the President.

Citgo's diesel is still the cheapest in the area.

2007-01-31 03:10:07 PM
See what happens when you vote Democrat? Now you're all going to die. Mwuhahahahaha.

2007-01-31 03:10:10 PM
Odds that GW enforces the Monroe Doctrine before 2008?

4:1

Any takers?

2007-01-31 03:10:11 PM
Oooh, he said Bush smelled like sulphur! This definately warrants international media attention on Venezuela, because we must categorically seperate the Good Guys from the Bad Guys. What if he decides to decree that they officially dislike America? Time to boycott Citgo, and place our interests firmly in middle eastern oil.

2007-01-31 03:10:17 PM
The teevee said I should hate this guy. That's good enough for me.

2007-01-31 03:10:42 PM
Watch the history lesson unfolding here, folks. You'll be able to see how a prosperous country can be turned into an economic basketcase in just 3-5 years.

2007-01-31 03:10:59 PM
If he's learnt anything from history he'll kill every oppostion threat within 6 months.
If not, the USA will engineer a another coup using these people.

/just sayin'

2007-01-31 03:11:10 PM
Yo...Tchamber- Chavez is grooming himself.

Thousands of Venezualans are lining up at Embassy Doors to get the hell out of dodge.

You can call him a boogyman, strawman...whatever....it does not make the fact that he is installing himself as dictator and rattling his saber in public less dangerous.

There were morons that referred to Hitler in the same off-handed terms. History will put you in with them.

We got Bush references in less than twenty posts in a thread linking to an article that has absolutely nothing to do with him. Who didn't see that coming?

2007-01-31 03:11:20 PM
There is no "second world." It's "third world" or "first world." "Second world" is archaic.

It could have been worse... the US might've had to have dealt with the United States of South America

Chavez is nothing compared to (US backed) Pinochet.

Never post an idea in a TF thread or you will see said idea as a greenlit thread an hour later.

My own fault. +1

Oddly, my brother, a retired ambassador who now works as an IG inspector for State Dept., is headed first for Caracas and then for Havana over the next couple of weeks. I'm a bit scared because my brother, who was the Ambassador to Tajikistan, didn't get another appintment because the Bushiats decided he wasn't a Republitard (true); since the first IG assignment he got was to go to Baghdad last August, I'm getting a bit worried here that my brother is getting sent into a woodchipper situation.

I wonder what the over/under is on the life of Chavez.

/2 years

2007-01-31 03:13:43 PM
Okay, I no longer approve of Hugo Chavez. That is all.

2007-01-31 03:14:19 PM
i bought Cuban rum and cigars in a mexico airport duty free on Monday...and it was passed through with no questions asked. Did something change without my knowledge? They're not supposed to change things without telling me.

/just joking about the smuggling, if anyone who cares is reading.
//not really joking

I wish people on Fark showed as much concern about what's going on in the US as they do to what's going on in some tinpot dictator-boogeyman's country...

"You'll be able to see how a prosperous country can be turned into an economic basketcase in just 3-5 years. "

Yeah, like all those other countries with a lot of oil under them ruled by oppressive dictators, like Saudi Arabia...no money there at all. Or like our biggest welfare state, Alaska.

He's got a lot of oil. It's hard to turn a country with a lot of oil into an "economic basket case". IF (big if) he raises the standard of living of the people who live in shacks with that money, spreading that money around, it's a good thing. If not, feh, we need another boogeyman now that we're going to lose Fidel.

You know... Im a Democratic Socialist, and I even think this guy is an absolute nutcase. Socialism can work, you just cant destroy Capitalism outright to make it work. Capitalism breeds innovation, wealth and general prosperity. This fool is just destroying it hoping that some lovely fairy godmother will throw some fairy dust on him and magically fix his oil-centered economy. Maybe starting slow would have been a better idea instead of nationalizing every industry that holds up his economy like crutches. Reform the economy to the point where the social classes dont have quite the gap they already have. I'll be bold enough to say this, to the chagrin of my fellow socialists, but no system based on 100% equality is successful. There will always be a top and a bottom, just make it so that the top doesnt treat the bottom like slaves. Narrow the margin. Introduce moderate reforms that dont drive away those that breed the innovation and prosperity of Capitalism. Its about finding a middle ground people... Socialism and Capitalism co-existing as a functioning entity.

/rant off
//i have a headache.. so rip away at my headache-induced theory
///its fark.. constructive cricism helps sometimes

You mean that horrible dictator who instituted free-market reforms of a collapsed economy, that is now one of the richest in South America? The one who relinquished power and gave the Chileans the best educational, banking, and political institutions? Sounds like a real jerk.
