That photo isn't fair without a comparison shot.

I like the difference in the "Playing arm" versus the non-playing arm. Shouldn't they do steroid testing in tennis too?

Heres the article:

Williams crushes Sharapova in Open final
By Darren Walton

Of all her many triumphs, this one was the sweetest, the most satisfying of the lot.

"Even I didn't expect to come in and win it all," Williams admitted after landing her eighth grand slam crown with a 6-1 6-2 obliteration of Maria Sharapova in the women's Australian Open final.

The emotional victory, which the American dedicated to her late sister Yetunde Price, who was murdered in a drive-by shooting in 2003, completed an astonishing career revival.

Knee injuries restricted Williams to four tournaments in 2006 and the former world No.1 arrived at Melbourne Park ranked a depressing 81st having played just three matches since the US Open last September.

The 25-year-old departed as the lowest-ranked and first unseeded player to have hoisted the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup since Australian Chris O'Neill in 1978.

"It's an awesome feeling," Williams said after leaving a succession of seeds in her wake.

From the outset, Sharapova, the reigning US Open champion who was bidding to become the first woman since Justine Henin three years ago to snare back-to-back grand slam titles, never stood a chance.

"I was driven," Williams said.

"I just went out there, I was focused. I was really focused. I knew what I wanted to do. I'm insatiable.

"When I'm playing well, it's difficult for anyone to beat me. It's difficult for anyone to beat me because I have a unique style. I have a unique game.

"Tennis is what I think I was born to do."

Even Williams, though, conceded there were times when she didn't imagine a performance like that was possible again.

She hadn't won a tournament since reigning in Melbourne two years ago.

"There's always times out there where you think: 'Am I ever going to be looking at another trophy?'," Williams said.

"Especially since I hadn't won a tournament, let alone a grand slam. I hadn't won a tournament in a long time."

Discounting last year's aborted final when Henin retired with a stomach complaint when trailing 6-1 2-0 against Amelie Mauresmo, Williams' victory was the most one-sided Open decider since Steffi Graf crushed Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 6-0 6-2 in 1994.

And the American did it all for her sister.

"I love her so much. A couple of days ago I said: 'If I win this, it's for you'. So I love you Tunde," Williams, fighting back tears, said in her victory speech.

Every day before matches she writes a note to herself.

"Today my note was just 'Yetunde'. That's it," Williams said.

"Usually I write, 'look at the ball, move forward, do this, do that.'

"Today I just had one word. Every changeover, I looked at it and I just thought about how happy she would have been, how much she always supported me.

"I just thought about what an amazing sister she was to me. I just said: 'Serena, this has to be motivating. This has to be more than enough to motivate me,' and I think it was."

Her unlikely success catapulted Williams 67 places to No.14 in the rankings and she promised to "play more than four tournaments this year" in an effort to climb even higher.

"I'm ready to take my game to a new level," she said.

He rivals are on notice.

Williams' eighth major placed her 10th on the all-time list - and three more than the other still active women Henin, Martina Hingis and sister Venus.

Sharapova's first loss in three grand slam finals reversed her 6-1 6-4 disposal of Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon decider.

The Russian pin-up said she could see the writing on the wall as early as the second game, but was nevertheless shattered in defeat.

"I'll be honest with you, I don't like losing. It's not fun," the teenager said.

As much as I believe in women's fitness, those two photos above made my peenor yelp and go hide.

This might be worthwhile if Sharapova actually said "She's a dude" - but since she didn't, who cares?

2007-01-27 11:11:56 AM
I had no idea Ricky Williams was also playing tennis.

2007-01-27 11:13:23 AM
It's good to see Wesley Snipes getting his life back together.

2007-01-27 11:15:36 AM
It was a massive defeat -- very one-sided. I feel sorry for those who paid for tickets... Definitely not worth it. For one thing, you can tell things are borked when one player serves at 190km/h and the other at 100 km/h...

/ Australian Open so I don't care for Imperial :)

Wesley Snipes...ROFL!!!!

Best of the day Mugato!

That picture of Serena is for real? I thought it was a farking photoshop.

She is a man, baby.

I love the slip in the article, too:

"He rivals are on notice."

Very nice.

How could you even play a match of tennis with earrings like that whipping around your head. nutty I tell ya.

Wow. Serena sure has bulked up eh? She used to be a little girl and now she's Barry Bonds.

That pic of the guy with the huge earrings scares the hell outta me.

This sentence gave me an erection:

"It's an awesome feeling," Williams said after leaving a succession of seeds in her wake.

I love that woman.

2007-01-27 11:35:44 AM
Anybody can look ugly in mid-strain. Eddie Murphy taught us that. But when not in strain, Serena is the much much much (etc) more ugly of the two, not even a contest. She's over-bulked, she doesn't even look good in the ads for her perfume (noticed it at Kohl's yesterday... but not for long, Ashley Judd's stuff was the next picture over!).

She's a couple of squats away from having a bodybuilder's legs. And she has my ass, graphed on to hers, cause it's damned big.

2007-01-27 11:41:13 AM
I have a hard time believing a woman can put on that much muscle mass without the help of anabolics...

2007-01-27 11:42:29 AM
R.O.P.: I like the difference in the "Playing arm" versus the non-playing arm. Shouldn't they do steroid testing in tennis too?

Spend a few weeks on foobies links, and your arms will look like that too ;)

2007-01-27 11:42:52 AM
I watchewd the match. The truly astounding thing was Serena's butt, jutting out like she was smuggling a pair of human heads under her skirt.

2007-01-27 11:43:05 AM
anyone actually watch the match? it looked like serena was possessed. shiat was scary. it was pretty rad.

2007-01-27 11:51:21 AM
I don't mind muscle on chicks and actually prefer a more athletic build, but Serena is gross. That much muscle is totally unfeminine.

2007-01-27 11:57:00 AM
Oh Funny. Sharapova said exactly what millions of men were thinking.

Williams should be playing Federov.

2007-01-27 11:58:28 AM
They DO test tennis players for steroids and performance-enhancing drugs. The difference in size in their arms is simply because they swing a tennis racquet with one hand for six hours a day.

Also, subby needs to be punched in the head, unless he meant to link to a different article in which Sharapova actually said something unsportmanlike.

2007-01-27 12:05:33 PM
Do they perform chromosome tests as well?

I have trouble believing there's nothing but a normal pair of Xs floating around in there.

2007-01-27 12:07:03 PM
Look at her she got a sack and a dong hidden somewhere!

2007-01-27 12:09:07 PM
serena williams is 5'10" and about 145 lbs and athletic.

if you think 5'10" - 145 lbs looks like a male NFL player, or a gorilla, or is massively huge in general, you are worse then a moron or imbecile, you are a fecking idiot

2007-01-27 12:09:37 PM
Serena Williams is farking hot. I LOVE chicks with muscles.

2007-01-27 12:10:00 PM
The Williams sister have a physical advantage on the vast majority of their opponents, they weigh nearly 190lbs each and aren't fat by any means. At the same time, they are good players who have the skill to match their physical advantages.

It reminds me of the Japanese Rugby team when they play a team like New Zealand, or Fiji. The Japanese play their hearts out, but pretty much always get creamed by what looks to be an opposing team made up of giants.

2007-01-27 12:12:37 PM
Serena might very well be the greatest that womens tennis has ever seen. She showed great finesse in that game.

It's quite a shame that the American sportscasters do little to support their own player. Nationalism in tennis has really fallen apart when the sportscaster supports the tennis player from Isreal over Serena- the player from Russia. Sad really.

Mugato: It's good to see Wesley Snipes getting his life back together.

Thread over. Stop trying.

2007-01-27 12:16:22 PM
The amount of steroids she uses is scary... looks like Bonds.

2007-01-27 12:17:03 PM
I find it hard to take women's tennis seriusly when an out of practice, out of shape, 80th ranked woman can win a grand slam.

Proud moment for Serena herself, but a sad state of affairs for women's tennis.
