OK, if two guys are carrying the same pipe, it would be roughly parallel to the ground, and they would not hit the overhad line with it. So they were carrying (as the article implies) two pipes. Did they both hit the power line at exactly the same time? If not (and this seems unlikely) wouldn't you think the second guy would have stopped immediately?
More description may have made this clear, but it seems very odd based on the facts we have.
