From TFA: "Carol Channing...managed to find her way on President Nixon's enemy list in 1973, when it was learned that Channing's purpose, according to the White House Counsel's office, was to 'screw' Nixon's political enemies by means of tax audits by the IRS."

WHA? Carol Channing controlled the IRS and became Nixon's enemy by attacking his, um, enemies? MAXIM needs to fire its editors!

Carol Channing hates Maxim.
2007-01-25 05:56:22 PM
Wait, who would want to screw Carol Channing, anyway?

/that's disgusting
2007-01-25 05:57:41 PM
First new link in hours and it is a blocked site. I'm going home.
2007-01-25 05:58:25 PM
notice how they just kind of left off anyone who didn't fit their "curse" theory - like justin timberlake?

/not a fan
//but loves dick-in-a-box
///wait, what?

Gloria Estefan hates Carol Channing.
2007-01-25 05:59:42 PM
Please someone put Jessica and Ashlee on. Maybe they'll get hit by meteors...
2007-01-25 05:59:48 PM
klatubaradanikto: The link is lame anyway...
2007-01-25 05:59:53 PM
People who perform at the superbowl aren't immune to bad things happening to them afterwards? Stop the presses!!
2007-01-25 06:00:17 PM
Gloria Estefan doesn't care about Carol Channing.
2007-01-25 06:00:54 PM
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Once again shows that the only merit of Maxim is the pictures... and even then.
2007-01-25 06:01:01 PM
It's almost like fame is a temporary phenomenon, and those who are popular one year might not be the next.

Additionally, people who lose fame might cope with that loss in negative ways!

Somebody get Ric on the phone...there's something to all of this!
2007-01-25 06:02:30 PM
Ummmmm..... did anybody even bother to go to the second page?
2007-01-25 06:02:36 PM
Maxim scientists must have worked overtime formulating that brilliant theory, not to mention accumulating such overwhelming evidence to support it.

They should have a lock on both the Noble Prize and the Pulitzer with this baby...
2007-01-25 06:03:41 PM
How is this a curse unless it affects everyone?
2007-01-25 06:04:08 PM
[image from too old to be available]
/This thread was lacking half-time greatness...
2007-01-25 06:05:40 PM
And I'm sure nothing bad happened to those curse-inflicted folks before their Superbowl performances.

Seriously, I want my 3.7 minutes back from that crappy article.
2007-01-25 06:05:53 PM
Wow. What a waste of time. Arrgh.

2007-01-25 06:07:55 PM
This story is so lame, I feel a threadjack is in order.

Tom Tancredo wants Congress to end its racist ways, NOW!

/if this is a repeat, I apologize, but I couldn't find it
2007-01-25 06:08:03 PM
Years after they sing at the superbowl haftime show they are no longer at the height of their career and not as famous, what a curse.
2007-01-25 06:08:26 PM
However the politically outspoken singer managed to find her way on President Richard Nixon's enemy list in 1973, when it was learned that Channing's purpose, according to the White House Counsel's Office, was to "screw" Nixon's political enemies by means of tax audits from the IRS.

Does... not... compute...

2007-01-25 05:31:04 PM Robert1966

my first thought exactly, how is carol channing screwing nixon's enemies? does not compute...

and its not super bowl, but the orange bowl two years ago(i think), with pop retard ashlee simpson.. was quite possibly the worst event i've ever witnessed... the song, the dancing/acting, and the crowd...

imagine you are the guy that has to write that up and research it... someone must have been in the dog house
2007-01-25 06:08:35 PM
So... is there supposed to be a pattern here or did someone just use GIS and Wikipedia to make deadline?
2007-01-25 06:09:22 PM
Boy, if I was in Up With People, I'd probably be crapping my pants in fear over what fate has in store for me...

/oh internet, is there any useless information you *don't* have?
2007-01-25 06:09:44 PM
sorry I was distracted from the article by this [image from too old to be available]
2007-01-25 06:12:18 PM
What the hell does that even mean?
2007-01-25 06:12:19 PM
quite a stretch by maxim. michael jackson was already a freak. justin timberlakes career has obviously blown sky high. aerosmith continues to be a top selling arena concert tour band. all boy bands die, it wasnt the super bowl. thats just off the top of my head.
2007-01-25 06:14:05 PM
Speaking of thread jacks,

You should never give an iguana Viagra, it seems to be a little 'hard' on them.
2007-01-25 06:15:49 PM
I'll never forget Jesse Jackson's halftime nipple-slip...

2007-01-25 06:16:06 PM
For all the advertising money that is spent on the Super Bowl, most of the half-time shows are incredibly lame....

[image from too old to be available]
2007-01-25 06:16:13 PM
Yes, having to watch the Super Bowl halftime show is a curse.
2007-01-25 06:16:23 PM
Yeah, but you gotta love the line about Brittany's lips being more famous than Steven Tyler's.
2007-01-25 06:17:20 PM
Maybe it's not as much a curse as it is the fact that whoever puts the half time show together is invariably lame and functionally retarded, therefore, the event is bound for mediocrity at best and disater at worse?

Who actually watches the half time show, anyway? We have remote controls now.
2007-01-25 06:17:56 PM
Wait! Wait!! Didn't Justin just break it off with his girlfriend? Spoooooooky.
2007-01-25 06:18:08 PM
Jpeg HTML hates me. Somebody please post the pic of the Carol Channing ventriloquist doll.
2007-01-25 06:18:28 PM
Mozart, sitting on the shoulders of his keeper as camera crews focused on his red, swollen erection, seemed unperturbed by the news.

"It doesn't bother him. He doesn't know what amputation means," said vet Luc Lambrecht, adding that Mozart's sexual activity should be undimmed by the operation.

"I don't think so. That's all in his head."

WTF? They are going to cut off Mozarts Weenie? He has two? Wow, and I thought that he was just a great composer, but wow now I feel really bad for him.
2007-01-25 06:23:06 PM
Maxim is blocked at work. Did they mention Elvis Presto?
2007-01-25 06:24:57 PM
ano: Didn't Justin just break it off with his girlfriend?

Man, that's gotta hurt! Did he break it off in his girlfriend, or just with her? Cause it'd be really awful to have to dig something like that out of yourself, I'd imagine.
2007-01-25 06:26:22 PM
"We all know about the near career-ending controversy from Miss Jackson's (if your nasty) wardrobe malfunction"

If my nasty what?
2007-01-25 06:32:56 PM
I actually researched that thing about Channing to try to figure out WTF it was talking about. Channing was indeed on the enemies list, but they have what that means entirely backwards. One of the tactics used against people on the enemies list was unnecessary IRS audits. She wasn't auditing anyone.

Well, I suppose that if you're taking your history from Maxim, you deserve what you get.
2007-01-25 06:35:10 PM

Who actually watches the half time show, anyway? We have remote controls now.

Are you kidding me? It is a trainwreck of entertainment mediocrity...there are a bagillion things going on - smoke machines, rock/pop/rap/hip-hop/jazz/country music playing all at once, there are scores of childrens (representing hope for the future®), marching bands and ribbon dancers.

The network production room assures us that no shot lasts longer than 3 seconds as they valiantly attempt to capture the enormity of this vomitous overload of American entertainment product. And the best part of this is they know that the only people watching it are folks like me who are laughing at''s futility is inversely proportional to the pagentry.

It is glorious.

And, yes, there are always ribbon dancers...I mean, who doesn't enjoy ribbon dancers?! They add a vague diversity and artistry to any event - they are like salad spoons at a Denny's attempting to class up the joint. Did i say a salad spoon? Whatever, rant off...enjoy some ribbon dancers:

Cuse? Please that is quite a stretch.
2007-01-25 06:41:37 PM
People still click on MAXIM-sponsored links ?

I just come for the fark thread.
2007-01-25 06:43:54 PM
So out of 40 super bowls 10 people had a tough year afterwards. 1 in 4 is no curse it's normal. If you talk to 3 of your friends 1 of them was bound to have some farked up shiat happen to them.
2007-01-25 06:44:46 PM
I used to *love* Maxim! I would steal my husband's copy before he got home...
Now though, it seems like the magazine's being run by henpecked husbands or gay men. No offence to gay men, of course, but I liked Maxim for how it was...

Ahem. I was pissed at how badly the commercials sucked last year at the SB. WTF was that 'Campaign for Real Beauty?' I can excuse the freaky King and the dancing pickles, but come on...
2007-01-25 06:45:46 PM
That's one reason I have never done it.
2007-01-25 06:47:29 PM

I submitted that story with an awesome headline and the geniuses hearabouts declined to list it
2007-01-25 06:48:35 PM
The Superbowl Halftime show is annually the worst and most boring part of the whole fiasco. I wish they would just end it.
2007-01-25 06:50:04 PM

No offence to gay men, of course,....

no, I mean, why should gay men take offense when you explain that the magazine used to be great, and now is terrible, and that this fact makes you think of gay men.

In my view MAXIM always sucked, but my ex-gf loved the dumb thing.
