wow those kids are going to be pissed.

opening act for Luda. And it was ruined for them by some douchbags...

/hopefully one day those kids will have power to force the obedience of people who preach there ideas and demand them to comply.
//it would be better to hope that people who ruin other peoples happiness to realize that others may not share there opinions, and might never be interested in doing so.
///the first option does sound more fun, especially for the kids..

I don't know whether to lynch subby or give him a stikkibun for the band camp reference...

Schools cannot support that kind of music in this culture.

Heck, I got in trouble for playing a song our band played many times at football games. We were walking back to the school after a 'drug free rally', and help me if the baritone part didn't get stuck in my head. So I started playing it softly, where my twin brother, a trombone player, another trombone player, and the tuba player joined in before our band director telling us it was inappropriate to play "Tequila" right after a drug free rally.

He didn't think it was funny. We did.

I have no problem with the school not allowing the band to open for Ludacris, as it's probably the smart decision. At the same time, I don't see the need for a huge public outcry. The school system said no, that should be the end of it.

Just reinforces the common belief that some people like to biatch just to have something to complain to the public about.

I'm going to wager that this guy wouldn't have had a problem with this if it weren't for Bill O'Reilly's personal boycot of Ludacris. Had it been Lil Wayne or Fat Joe performing, this guy wouldn't have done a damn thing.

Douchebag. Singular. And the father of one of the high school band's members. He's gonna be reeeeaaaaal popular now.

/This one time, at band camp, all the other band geeks took turns forcibly putting their instruments in my ass.

Luda makes great music, but I don't think that kids that age realize how tongue-in-cheek his lyrics are. The guy, from what I've seen outside of his lyrics, is a sweet guy who respects women. But he also knows what sells, and I don't think he's expecting anyone to take his lyrics seriously.

I'll take a little ironic misogyny over calls to gang violence.

"I would like to thank Ludacris for the having the courage to tell us to shake our ass, but the wisdom to tell us to watch ourselves!"

Ludacris lyrics inappropriate for high school students? Nonsense! Every young man should be told "sit back and watch the women get drunk as hell / so I can wake up in the morning with a story to tell".

Like retards complaining about a high-school band opening for Ludacris?

We're advocating against caving in to those complaints.

real shaman. WHERE ARE YOU??? WE CAN'T HEAR YOU!

2007-01-25 12:09:35 PM
I've never heard of "Ludacris," so I have no idea how bad their lyrics are, but if they do contain " profanity, vulgarity and violence toward women" and those things violate the school's code of conduct then the principal and superintendent really have no choice but to block official participation in a Ludacris concert.

Sure, teenagers stretch boundaries by behaving in ridiculous and profane ways, and by supporting artists who do, but adults shouldn't be endorsing that behavior by encouraging students to participate in it.

Parent is right.

Hip-Hop represents everything that is wrong in today's music. It's mean-spirited, exploits women, glorifies violence, advocates drug abuse, etc, etc, etc.

This is the part where some idiot chimes in with a ...but...but...but Heavy Metal... Wake up you people, nobody will buy Gwar's "America Must Be Destroyed" and proceed to adopt that as his philosophy in their life (well, maybe 1 or 2 crazy people, but the vast majority won't). Nobody buys a Kiss album and thinks he'll get all the girls if he dresses that way, nobody buys a Manowar record and then decides to sell their house and move into a castle in Romania.

There are plenty of idiots and poor people in guetos, however, who will buy some shiats called "Get rich or die trying" and see value in that twisted perverted message. There are plenty of idiots who DO adopt Ebonics as their first language, and won't get a better job because of they way they talk. There are plenty of assholes who dress like this http://ueba.net/hosted_pages/Hip-Hop-Artists-20070115 and DO NOT think it's beyond ridiculous.

Heavy Metal = Cartoonish, fun, music, not real.

Hip-Hop = Takes itself seriously, exploitative, is not even music (TALKING your lyrics doesn't qualify as singing, sorry!) and worst of all: It is seen an actual life style.

Why?

My high school was scheduled to have Wu-tang and Biggie Smalls concert in the high school gym (before they got popular).

They only cancelled it at the last minute because the police received info from some informants that people were going to be taking guns to school.

/and that was still a bullshiat call, ever heard of metal detectors?

Jose628: Heavy Metal = Cartoonish, fun, music, not real.

If you have ever listened to a Ludacris song and not gotten the same impression, then you are listening with -- dare I say -- racist ears.

On the other side of that coin, if you have ever listened to Megadeath, early Metallica, Anthrax or any number of other metal bands (or even pop bands) and not heard them extol violence, death, and/or drug use...well, you are probably listening with those aforementioned ears.

2007-01-25 12:27:36 PM
I think the kids who were able to (whose parents let them) should have performed anyway on their own. There's no way the school could object to that if they didn't wear school uniforms.

2007-01-25 12:27:56 PM
Poor band nerds. I would've traded a nut to be able to have my rural North Carolina highschool marching band OPEN FOR &$(!@% LUDACRIS... but then again, probably half of us were mature enough to shrug Luda's lyrics off, while the other half might have been the type to see the show and become more likely to do something "Ludacris said was OK."

If I were a parent, that's what I'd be worried about. I'd think my child OPENING FOR ^#!@%* LUDACRIS was pretty cool, but I'd worry about the aftereffects of such an experience on a band of pubescent high-schoolers. Just imagine!

Just for you Jose:

Anthrax's, Death From Above:

Like the screaming eagle
I'm on the run
I blaze through the sky
I kill for the fun

No reason, no warning
Nor shadow be found
Got you in my sights
And I'll shoot you down

Jet fighter, jet fighter
Turbo jet engines ignite
Jet fighter, jet fighter
Death will filling the sky

Jet fighter, jet fighter
An airborne assault and attack
Jet fighter, jet fighter
A cold blooded stab in the back

Vengeance is calling on you
And there's nothing that you can do
Brings you the thing you deserve
Death from above!

Metallica's, Last Caress / Green Hell Lyrics (admittedly, it's a cover but still):

[Last Caress]

[1st verse:]
I've got somethin' to say
I killed your baby today and it
Doesn't matter much to me
As long as it's dead

I've got somethin' to say
I raped your mother today and it
Doesn't matter much to me
As long as she spread

[Chorus:]
These lovely dead
I'm waiting for your breath
'Cause sweet Death wants Last Caress.

[1st verse]
[Chorus 2x]

One Last Caress today,
Ohhh Ohhh Ohhh [2x]

[Green Hell]

Here in this place lies the key to your death
Touch it, see it
Here in this place is the means to your end
Touch it, feel it
Green hell

You did your best as someone could
I bet you never knew you would
Did you run away from it?
I bet you thought you were really good

We're gonna burn in hell
Green Hell Green Hell
Like every hell but kind of green
Green Hell Green Hell
Try let me get back up there
Green Hell Green Hell
Feel it burning in your cereal
Green Hell Green Hell
Throw our farkin' friends inside
Green Hell Green Hell
Gotta farkin' pay and you must stay
Green Hell Green Hell
Cannot forget about the best
Green Hell Green Hell
Hell is reigning in your blood
Green Hell Green Hell
Gotta burn it all
Green hell

You did your best as someone could
I bet you never knew you would
And did you run away from me
I bet you think they were really good

Here in this place lies the key to your death
Touch it, see it
Here in this place sister won't let it in
Touch it, feel it
Green hell

You did your best as someone could
I bet you'd never knew you would
Did you run away from it?
I bet you thought you were really good
You've come to this as someone told
I bet you'd never knew you would
Gonna bring
Green hell

ATostig: Yeah, anybody who doesn't want his kids opening for such a sterling talent as Ludacris is obviously an asshat. I mean, who wouldn't want their kids to be exposed to such genius?

Quote, from the article: "It was the vilest thing I've ever read," Pattie said.

Reading that...that's really not that bad. Sure, it forces half-rhymes where they have no business being; the lyrical structure is a little messy; and the subject manner could, by many people, be construed as 'offensive'--but I'd hardly consider it "vile."

You want "vile", look up that zombie porn story I got sent a while back, where it explicitely describes rotting zombiesecks. In terms of vileness, it beats the pants off of that.

/Worse-written, too.

From what I've heard (this is hearsay, I don't keep up on the hip-hop scene) but Ludacris is the same "cartoonish" persona. His rap isn't "serious" like, say, 50 Cent's is. His songs are all joking and pretty much fake.

So now why do you think they shouldn't have played for him? I assume you'll keep finding reasons.

shiat, I grew up listening to the Stones, and The Dead, and the Velvet Underground, and I don't do heroin. Every generation has it's groups that people just fall down and foam at the mouth about. I know people in general think of the Dead as some sort of Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers come to life, but when they started out, they were as vilified as any of these groups, if not moreso. People hate change, and any challenge to their world view. I think it really comes down to that in these sort of cases.

I'm well aware of that, but older lyrics that are just as "offensive" show that this isn't a new phenomena, and therefore this is nothing more than a tempest in a teapot. ;)
