Marky Mark all the way!

I came out of "The Departed" thinking to myself if Mark Wahlberg doesn't get an Oscar nomination out of this my name is Albert farking Einstein.

I, for one, thought it was a decent year. But 2007 is going to kick ass.

DNRTFA, but Snakes on a Plane, best picture?

The Departed deserves every single nomination it got and then some.

By far the best film of 2006.

"Children Of Men" was robbed...

2007-01-23 09:39:59 AM
Forest Whitaker deserves something. He was incredible.

2007-01-23 09:40:09 AM
Thought Pan's Labyrinth would get more love than that.

2007-01-23 09:40:26 AM
Children of Men deserves a lot more attention than it's getting.

Penelope Cruz in "Vulva"?

2007-01-23 09:41:24 AM
I am pretty sure (will ask the wifey) that I didn't watch a single movie at the theatre last year.

This is why...

Little Miss Sunshine was a good flick, but Best Picture???

2007-01-23 09:41:43 AM
"Dreamgirls"= one of my peak film experiences

The whole "Oscar doesn't like gays" thing playing out with Bill Condon?

2007-01-23 09:41:55 AM
I feel that the Academy has finally gotten their act together. I have seen all of the Best Picture nominees, and all deserve to be there. Dreamgirls really wasn't that good of a movie, and without Murphy it would have been worse(yes, for once a movie is better with him in it). I think that it will come down to The Departed and The Queen for Picture, with Eastwood getting the nod, once again, for Director.

/We'll see if I'm right come February

2007-01-23 09:42:26 AM
Haven't seen it yet but I hope Forest Whitakers performance lives up to the hype. Always thought he was a great actor.

2007-01-23 09:42:46 AM
Pan's Labyrinth at least deserves a nomination for best picture.

2007-01-23 09:42:56 AM
How in the heck did the people who determine the nominees miss Bloodrayne?

/just kidding, worst movie I've seen in years, possibly ever
//even the plethora of boobie shots couldn't save it
///Can you believe a sequel is in the making?
////Uwe Boll DIAF

2007-01-23 09:43:08 AM
Scorsese better win this time. The Departed was his best movie since Goodfellas.

2007-01-23 09:43:11 AM
Steve-O from Jackass 2 was robbed. He had the most purely emotional, heartfelt moments on film this year. He was a revelation; a young Brando, if you will.

2007-01-23 09:43:27 AM
Interesting. None of the Best Actor nominations and only one of the Best Actress nominations are for roles in any of the Best Picture nominations.

2007-01-23 09:43:50 AM
How many people did it take to write Borat? Jesus! I think The Departed deserves a lot, and Scorsese, because he finally made a movie without wasting three years, haha.

2007-01-23 09:43:53 AM
I saw "Children of Men" and enjoyed it and it got nominated in the categories it ought to be considered for Cinematography, Editing, Adapted Screenplay.

What else should it have been nominated for?

2007-01-23 09:44:38 AM
No best picture for United 93? Complete BS.

DiCaprio should have been nominated for his work in The Departed rather than Blood Diamond too.

Any nomination for Wil Smith is ridiculous in the extreme. Most overrated actor of our generation. Waste of a nomination.

2007-01-23 09:44:53 AM
I don't understnad Borat being nominated for a screenplay award. Wasn't most of it improvised?

Pantherpowa: How in the heck did the people who determine the nominees miss Bloodrayne?

Can you believe that movie was on the Sci-Fi channel this weekend? That's the quickest I've ever seen from theatre to basic cable.

2007-01-23 09:45:10 AM
Aughsum, Borat was on there at least once: Adapted Screenplay: Sacha Baron Cohen and Anthony Hines and Peter Baynham and Dan Mazer and Todd Phillips, "Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan"

hmm.. I think i've only seen one movie on that entire list and that was The Prestige...

submitter obviously hasn't seen any of the movies nominated for best picture, or else is ticked that Children of Men wasn't nominated for more.

2007-01-23 09:45:21 AM
Oh and Id like to add that I think 2006 was one of the best years for movies we've had in a loooooooong time.

2007-01-23 09:45:39 AM
if Flags of Our Fathers doesn't win for best Sound Mixing, then i give up. that was the best sound mixing i've heard since I Come in Peace.

2007-01-23 09:45:43 AM
Pan's Labyrinth is one of the best movies I've ever seen (even with its uncomfortably violent parts). I hope it wins everything.

2007-01-23 09:45:58 AM
Incredulous: Interesting. None of the Best Actor nominations and only one of the Best Actress nominations are for roles in any of the Best Picture nominations.

Wrong. The Queen for Best Picture and Helen Mirren for Best Actress. Try again.

2007-01-23 09:45:58 AM
I don't think I watched a single one of the movies nominated.

I really need someone to explain to me why "Dreamgirls" wasn't "that good of a movie".

Eddie Murphy was awesome tho. For the first time I felt like I was watching him have fun instead of watching him work to make me believe he was having fun.

2007-01-23 09:47:19 AM
*Sigh* Haven't seen all of the Best Pic noms, but I walked out of Children of Men thinking that it may have been one of the most important films and amazing films I have EVER seen. And to not be considered? I guess I need to see Little Miss Sunshine, but from what I've seen about it, I don't see how it could compare to Children. Furthermore, I don't know how CoM didn't get the visual effects nod... there were several extended scenes in the film which looked completely like one continuous cut, even though it's been reported that they were filmed separately and CGI'd together. I guess it looked TOO much like it was real.

Will Smith for Best Actor, even though I know O'Toole will win it because he hasn't.

Meryl Streep for Actress, even though I suspect Mirren will win it (the opposite reason; Streep already has 2).

And finally, Scorsese for Director, even though I suspect Iwo Jima will win. Eastwood already has 2 Director statues and 4 total. It's too bad Greengrass won't get a shot at it, because United 93 was expertly and tastefully shot while tackling such a serious subject.

I think those cover it very well...I read that those long shots in that movie weren't one cut; they used some digital manipulation. That's some fantastic editing right there. Same with cinematography.

Still, knowing that now it makes the Copacabana scene in Goodfellas all that more impressive. No digital film tricks there!

2007-01-23 09:48:03 AM
Man what the hell happened to quality animated films? Happy Feet? Monster House? Really?

Anyway, Children of Men was better than every movie on that list I bothered to see.

2007-01-23 09:48:15 AM
I never thought I would see the day that Eddie Murphy was nominated for an Oscar! Wow!

2007-01-23 09:48:34 AM
I agree that "Children of Men" was robbed. I keep remembering moments from it that stick with me.

I didn't even see "Babel" because it received such lukewarm reviews.

2007-01-23 09:49:15 AM
Blahblahblah, Children of Men got unfairly snubbed, Dreamgirls was overrated, and the Departed deserves everything. That is all.

2007-01-23 09:50:05 AM
Fool yourself however your want. This has got to be one of the shiattiest movie years since Rocky won the Oscar.

A Scanner Darkly got snubbed, I see.

I didn't see the movie, my wife did and she was a little disappointed. Said that the singing didn't seem appropriate for the time period, relied on that over-the top histronics and stupid ass runs that are often just loud and unnecessary. She thought Jennifer Hudson did a good acting job, as well as Eddie Murphy.

2007-01-23 09:51:00 AM
Alan Arkin in LMS was great. I hope he wins.
If that little girl wins for Best Supporting Actress, I wouldn't mind.

i hope you don't have to comprehend for work.

AFATfag: I just saw little miss sunshine. pretty funny, although i don't think Alan Arkin deserved a BSA nod.
haven't seen anything else.

Penelope Cruz in "Vulva"?

Sounds like a Seinfeld bit.

"Jerry, you ever notice that the words 'Volver' and 'vulva' sound the same in a spanish accent?"
"I think you're on to something, Geroge. Volver, vulva. Vulva, Volver."

It's a damn disgrace that Snakes on a Train wasn't nominated, at least for its amazing special effects.
