Bassholes.

There's a big tournament here in the summer that brings in some serious tourism revenue. Not 19 million though. That's just silly talk.

do you think he was baited by the bass tourneys?

since when is B the abbreviation for "million" ?

19 Brazilian dollars?! How many is a Brazilian?

2007-01-18 11:03:52 PM
Professional fisherman? Pff! If your "sport" is shown only on ESPN 3 or below, it's not a sport. At most it's a game or activity. You can rank yourself up there with professional basket weavers and professional whittlers.

19 billion would have just been crazy. However, 19 million seems pretty reasonable for some good bass fishing.

Mister Peejay, you win.

This is my governor? The same one who doesn't want me to buy a beer in the store on a Sunday? No, thanks. I want to keep my 19 Million. Let Bass Pro Shops give a day's revenue to promote the tourneys if they want them so bad.

Politicians (Republicans, Democrats and Liberatarians) all bug me. When I go vote, I have to think - "who do I loathe the least?"

"Professional fisherman? Pff! If your "sport" is shown only on ESPN 3 or below, it's not a sport. At most it's a game or activity. You can rank yourself up there with professional basket weavers and professional whittlers."

All spectator sports are inherently useless. If you are watching and being passively entertained it has little to no value to Society. What do you learn about the world or other people while watching sports?

I use to have a job that had me working at a few fishing tournaments. Some Spectator sports are more inherently useless than others.

Way to inflate the spending by 1000x, submitter.

Still a lot of money to spend luring fish people.

Forget a GEORGIA tag, Sonny Perdue is on the fast track to getting his own person Fark tag.

/Hey Chickenboy, how about we outlaw church on Sunday? You have six other days you can go to church, if you can't manage your time well enough to save your soul during the week, you don't deserve salvation.

Yet this dumbass is threatening to veto a bill allowing local governments to decide if beer can be sold on Sunday (its a state law in GA that it can't be). This is his wonderful quote to a radio program:
"Think of it this way," the governor added in the radio interview. "It really helps you plan ahead for the rest of your life - buying on Saturday, rather than Sunday. Time management."

But then what would the liquor store down there on Cheshire do? That was always the closest place you could go on 85 to get beer after midnight on Saturday night. It's the powerful Cheshire Bridge Liquor Store lobby, I tells ya.

Funny that the examples the writer of the article used are from metro Atlanta.

Me thinks the writer should venture outside metro Atlanta since the world doesn't revolve around this little piece of real estate contrary to his personal belief.

Considering he's writing a lifestyle piece for the Atlanta paper, what do you expect him to do?

right click > FarkTags > Clipboard > IMG URL From Clipboard where clipboard is the url of your image host that you hosted the image at. You did host the image didn't you? I like photobucket(p), but that's just me. There are plenty of others. Read the posting guidelines at the bottom of the page.

Everyone in the south and heartland know the populatity of fishing. It's not cheap when done with more than a cane pole. Those of you on the west coast and New England may not understand. 19 million for boat ramps and promotion of fishing is a drop inn the bucket compared to tax on what fishermen spend. This is a very savvy expenditure in Georgia's monster tourism budget.

Actually, tournament bass fishing has been on the rise in popularity. The purses for the big tournaments have gotten significantly higher. ESPN added a few shows for it a couple years back, though in very early weekend time slots. Their goal was to try to find the next Texas Hold'em.

If you think about it, tournament fishing has some of the same qualities that Poker does. Not real exciting action, Money on the line, entertainment is somewhat dependent upon the characters involved.

And it seems like a decent investment in tourism. Just like with golf courses that host professional tournaments, the amateurs will want to hit those same lakes to see how they can do.

I only know this cause my boss is a Pro and his friend hosts one of the shows on the deuce. Never watched the show, don't fish.

//Only like icefishing.
//Which consists of drilling some holes, dropping some tip-ups, and going inside to drink beer.

Economic impact of freshwater sport fishing in Georgia's neighbor Florida, in 1996(!)

In 1996, 2,854,021 fisherpeople over 16 years of age spent 45,464,00 angler days fishing the Sunshine State's waters in search of a wide variety of finny targets spending more than $3,288,843,000.

This translates into the creation of 81,815 jobs in which people earned $1,711,404,281. State sales tax coffers benefitted to the tune of $197,330,658, while Federal Income Taxes amounted to $176,392,657.

Hey, hey......Don't knock the Bass fishing. I live in GA and don't mind paying for something like that. You would agree if you ever landed a bass over 5 lbs. They're a helluva lot of fun to catch.

cant dig on the rednecks in this case. Those that dismiss the
economic impacts of these big tournements make them sound like the stereotypically ignorant rednecks they mock. GA isnt by far the only state to spend money doing this kind of stuff.

Farkin moocher states...

yeah but you can send you kid to a state college tuition free in GA. That's a fair trade any day of the week
