TechieZero: Bushco how cute.

I've seen people use that term in a neutral context. Usually then it just means "Bush and Company," which is just another way of saying "the Bush administration." But I have seen others who use it to highlight the Bush administration's especially close corporate ties.

maq0r: I really don't care,

Still, it's in the best interests of both the Iranian people, the region and the west.

Though I'm sure if there is a revolution or heavy reform, the Iranians won't close relations with venezuela.

OPEC relations have been maintained through regime change in 79, and I'm sure it will be the same now.

Dealing in absolutes is getting us in some SERIOUS trouble... Iran is "evil" so we can't talk to them.

It's not like their people are evil, or you have to do anything you see as propping their regime up. Talk is cheap as they say.

That's rich, bashing our biggest ally in the War on Terror.

I think you should keep an HTML 'copy-n-paste' document around your 'puter just so you don't have to keep typing that again and again and again and again ad nauseum. I feel sorry for you sometimes :)

wow, anybody remember when bush was going to be a placeholder president, not too bright a guy and everything was well with the world so we all just expected him to coast along on the good things everyone had going.

the clusterfark we're in today is beyond science fiction, if i'd read a book 6 years ago about how it would be today i'd laugh and write it off as fancyfull claptrap.

It's also not like they are innocents crushed under the boot of Islamic Revolutionary thought since 1980, just one fleeting student revolt away from a coup like the other side portrays.

3) Its the repetitive ignorance around here that gets stale, IMHO.

I LOVE when folks claim other govmts are untrustworthy. Ask Diem how promises made to him worked out. Or Noriega, or ,hell, Saddam, or the democratically elected leader of Iran from 35 years ago who we helped depose to prop up the Shaw who was such an evil bastard his people rose up and, hey, here we are.

Jesus christ.....

Worse, because south americans didn't ruin Canada, slaughter Canadians, rape Canadians or force a bloody religion on Canadians.

That's right. I forgot that Iran is such a great nation and the U.S is shiat.

Wait, what?

You do realize that if this was reversed, you wouldn't even be allowed to READ this article in Iran, right?

All governments are untrustworthy. They are all run by power hungry politicians.

Trusting the Iranian administration is as stupid as trusting any other politicians. They are all looking to expand influence and power...

some janitors too... but we need them just as much.

Who knows how things might have been if bush wasn't such a dumbass.

on the one hand you can't really trust the iranians, or the the north koreans for that matter. on the other hand ignoring the problem is retarded.
I think the best way to judge the effectiveness of w's approach is to simply look at the results...yeah, bush sucks.

2007-01-18 10:53:26 AM
I didn't miss anything. I wasn't responding to any specific post here. I was just wondering why we're trying to paint Iran as this olive-branch-offering nation all of a sudden.

They offer peace to get on CNN.

Persepolis: You can talk to my relatives that still live there and they will say the same thing.

Then DO SOMETHING.

It has been 26 years. There has been no serious threat of overthrow since then.

My relatives had the balls to stand up to a much more powerful bully here, and here. Perhaps it is time to admit that however bad they are, the Islamic Revolutionary government of Iran is the legit government recognized and backed by a majority of the people.

Should I start holding my breath for the student/exile revolt yet? Because I turned blue the last time the CIA told us that tale in Iraq.

Great book. Also notable and relevant because Sachedina is a specialist in Shia Islam. His other recent book "The Just Ruler in Shi'ite Islam" is also good but only for people who already have a basic grounding in Islam.

I refuse to believe that this administration could have

1. Ignored the counsel of their secretary of state
2. belligerently believed in their own rhetoric, in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary AND
3. rejected any proposals out of hand with a dismissal as simple minded as "we don't negotiate with evil."

there is simply no evidence that this group of leaders would do such a thing.
