Everywhere that I go I see PS3s gathering dust. Nobody wants a $600 game system with mediocre games.

Wow, just wow. They'll void your warranty for using a non-Sony component cable? I have no problem with them voiding the warranty if you open up the case or drop it on the floor but for using the wrong brand of component cable?

Im glad I sold off my PS3, my friend got one last week and it was DOA. Would not turn on no matter what we did. I'll wait until 2nd or 3rd generation to come out before I pick up a PS3.

Microsoft expands their warranties to 1 year after customers complain ... and Sony tells their customers that the warranty on their $700 system is voided if you don't let them soak you for an extra $50 on the cables ? HAHA.

So the manual has instructions on how to replace/upgrade the internal hard drive of the PS3 on your own, but using non-Sony cables will void the warranty?

I actually own a 3rd party GameStop component cable for my PS3. Kind of pissed I did, because the things fit so damn tight around the circular component jacks, that I'm afraid I'm going to rip the jacks out of my monitor whenever I disconnect it. :(

You know, I've been of the mind for at decade that Sony should just go to hell, but I'm not totally convinced that this is true. I mean, it's not out of the realm of possibility but I'd like some proof, like a scan of the warrantee or something.

I'll laugh with everybody else if it ends up being true, as I love a good Sony bashing, but I'd like it confirmed first.

aba, you either fail at the internets or simply misunderstood the guy's point: that it should not matter if you use a 3rd party cable.....this is a classical example of consumer lock-in and abuse in an oligarchy style industry (Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are the only stand alone console producers that I know of)

Due to this and other things....I hope Sony dies. My only concern though is that Microsoft will step in and have an even greater global monopoly than it does now (Sony and Microsoft do both hardware and software).

I had a 1.5 PSP and sold it for a good amount of cash (along with some mem sticks, battery backup, et al). Used the money to buy a DS Lite and I love it. I play it a TON more than I did with my PSP, and I had unlimited games for the PSP (emulators, ISOs, etc). Now I have to get another DS Lite becasue my wife gets sore when I take the DS with me to work.

I love my 360 for HD gaming, but the DS is fun and makes me want to try the Wii. I have no interest in a PS3 because I frankly don't see anything that my 360 can't do. Since my "old" TV tops out at a mere 1080i with (gasp!) no HDMI slot, I'm pretty well not interested in PS3.

I think the battle between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be decided when the film (non-adult) industries pick a side. (Though the PSP format did tank, but I think it was for different reasons)

This is bullstuff, but I would like to see Sony remain strong, as a cattleprod to MicroSoft. Both PS3 and Xbox are damned fine gaming machines that push a ASS of bits. Part of the reason is that they are scared as shiat of one another. Without that, you could get a really phoned in console.

Sony has been on my Do Not Want list since that rootkit debacle and I see no reason to reconsider that decision.

I dunno, I haven't been keeping track with the game news. Even then, I'm an RPG fan, and XBOX doesn't have much strength in that area (I loved J-PS2 RPGs). MGS is just the next big release for me.
