One of the most bizarre, but thought provoking religious comedy sketches ever was on Saturday Night Live, with Phil Hartman as Jesus, and Sally Fields as an annoying housewife who is continually praying and intoning Jesus to help her with the most trivial and asinine things.

I can see why Jesus killed Phil Hartman for that.

Everyone knows satiric comedy sketches weaken God's power.

I refuse to take this group seriously until at least one embassy is firebombed.

Humor is the juxtaposition of the incongruous... don't sweat it. It's funny precisely BECAUSE you don't think of Jesus in that way.

Gilda Radner and Lorainne Newman did something like this on SNL in the late 70's. It was a sketch about teenage girls fantasizing about jesus like he was Leif Garrett, with lots of lines about boinking him.

Well, you know I thought about that. But the lyrics I saw would really make fun of no Christians. No one sings sings even remotely like that. So, I just kept thinking. Either way, what's wrong with making fun of Christianity?

Any unflattering or "non worship related" anything about Jesus Inc. gives the fundie organizations a reason to run their mouth to the media and get more publicity, which often leads to more members and more money. Plus, most of these people have no farking sense of humor whatsoever anyway.

Kinda like the muslims in a twisted little way....

This inspired me to concoct a plan:
1. Teach understanding and compassion towards your fellow man/woman.
2. Have students who pass on teachings verbally for a few hundred years.
3. People I have never met will write down my teachings in a loosely arranged fashion, having heard them from an obviously reliable source (The son of a friend of a cousin of the grandson of the neighbor of the uncle of the mother of the ex-girlfriend of the dog sitter of one of my students)
4. These writings will get passed around for a few hundred more years, to eventually be edited and compiled in some type of anthology.
5. That book will be re-edited and translated repeatedly for at least a millenium, obviously not changing anything about it.
6. 2000 years from now douche-bags will use that book to justify their persecution and all around crappy treatment of anyone who thinks/looks different than them.

Being in a minority religion (Buddhism), I should be the one worried about people mocking my religion. But I have read the book "If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him" and I'm a Buddhist. So I have little sympathy for fundie Christians or Muslims when they vent their indignities like this.

Probably the oddest thing (to me) to come out of modern religionism are "Christian Teens". I had one as an employee for a while. She refused to return the shelf tags back in the adult movie room because she was upset by the graphic box covers. She also left some paperwork from her church about an abstitence pledge at the store one day.

Religion is poison. When will the world wake up?

There are too many gods out there to choose from. And if you believe in one you are automatically taking sides. This means you have certain expectations of people from the start and if they don't meet your expectations there is immediate conflict. We need to worry about our civilization and forget about these primal ideas for which there is no physical evidence. And please don't mention faith because that is conformist behavior and just plain silly.
