But the guy in the Army uniform was kind of hot.

Standing next to a car that is the gayest shade of purple?

That Audi is sexxxxy

I so wanted to like the Audi R8, but I hate those little slats in the front brake ducts...it's enough to ruin the car for me (much like the rakes on the sides of the previous generation Eclipse).

On the other hand, that Audi R10 TDI...drooooool.

The Evo looks like a lot of car for the price.

That Ford entry was fugly. It's like the designers took a brick and gave it a grill.
Is it any wonder their sales are dropping quicker than a stripper's panties.

I love that Efijy or whatever.

2007-01-10 01:55:23 AM
The Efijy to me says that Detroit hasn't finished jerking-off to memories of the good old days. They need to move on...

2007-01-10 01:59:50 AM
abennion,
The Efijy is a car concept from Australia. Your comment says to me you haven't finished pulling your head out of your ass. Ah, the good old days.... Thanks for playing.

The EVO will be a world beater once again.

2007-01-10 02:10:25 AM
The Evo-X is hot. It certainly looks better than the WRX since they redesigned the front end to look like an Alfo Romeo. Then again, it's another year. What is the WRX going to look like this year?

I just want to see a production Dodge Challenger.

"The Chevy Silverado and Saturn Aura took car and truck of the year at that show. Suck it, import lovers."

Based on what, initial build quality? Check residual values for a Big 3 vehicles-ouch.

I sold a Ford hExplorer in 4 months; I sold my Toyota Camry the day it listed. Search the Demise of Chrysler on the interwebs.

And Mustang? PFFFT-keep it. Nasty

That Holden is awesome, I've seen it before.

I think that Lexus kinda looks like a Skyline.

CuttySupreme: The Chevy Silverado and Saturn Aura took car and truck of the year at that show. Suck it, import lovers.

Um, let's see, the auto show that's hosted in the Big Two's back yard, that foreign manufacturers weren't allowed to rent floor space at in it's first year... that show gave a domestic manufacturer an award? Color me shocked.

That being said, I haven't seen anything yet that's swaying me away from my current front-runners - a Solstice GXP or Sky Red Line... I like that they're the same length as my car, a little wider, about the same weight, and... twice as much torque. Little worse on fuel economy - only GM could make a base model with worse fuel economy than the high-output model. So at least I'm aiming for the more fuel efficient two out of the four.

Never really got interested in concept cars, the only ones that make me look twice are the "concept" cars that go straight into production with very few changes (e.g. Honda's last Civic Si "Concept Car", or the current CRX "Concept Car"). Most pie-in-the-sky concepts can't be driven, since they're usually lacking the engine, or transmission, or gas tank, or (often) all three.

Freiheit666: I think that Lexus kinda looks like a Skyline.

Makes sense, since it sounds like the US will finally get the Skyline with this next generation. I bet Toyota would like to beat them to the punch.

CuttySupreme: The Chevy Silverado and Saturn Aura took car and truck of the year at that show. Suck it, import lovers.

The Saturn Aura is essentially an Opel Vectra which is essentially a Pontiac G6, the car GM can barely give away (despite Oprah trying). These sound like the same kinds of people who named a Kia (I believe, I'll have to watch the Top Gear episode again) as the best trailer towing car in Europe. Speaking of Top Gear, they showed the souped-up Vectra recently with a massively blown motor. In straight line, it's now the 5th fastest sedan in Europe, in the company of things like the Maserati Quattroporte and a fraction of the price. Unfortunately, they didn't bother doing anything to the chassis, and to quote Jeremy Clarkson, it suffers from "catastrophic understeer".

MonkeyBoy666: That being said, I haven't seen anything yet that's swaying me away from my current front-runners - a Solstice GXP or Sky Red Line... I like that they're the same length as my car, a little wider, about the same weight, and... twice as much torque.

There's one main reason I chose to buy the MX-5 over the Solstice (and were I to pick between the Solstice or the Sky, it'd be the Sky hands-down): trunk space. My fiancee and I took a road trip up the California coast in the summer in the MX-5 with the top down. That's an impossibility in both of those cars. With the top up they've got a good 4 sq. ft. of trunk space, with the top down they've got less than 1 sq. ft, and it's split in half, you're not getting much of anything in there. Where's the fun in taking a car for a few day trip, with the requisite few day trip's worth of luggage, if you can't put the top down?

I'm not an import lover by any means, but I do find that GM has an alarming tendency to come up with a fantastic idea and then promptly step on their own puds. Case above: Lets move into the Miata/Z4/SLK market, making a fun, light-weight, rear-wheel drive touring car, but ruin it for one of the most fun reasons to have one of those cars. The Solstice GXP looks like a *great* autocross/track-day car, but not-so-much for an overall ragtop roadster.

It's a shame, too. I know that GM, Ford, and Chrysler have it in them to come up with something great, and they have on occasion. But they just seem to have decided that to compete with the imports, they have to build something that costs less than the competition by going all out in 80% of the things that matter, then completely blowing it on the final 20%. Hell, just look at the reviews of the Shelby GT500 vs. the Shelby GT for the new Mustang...Ford decided to go nuts and put a 500 hp engine in it and call it a Shelby, completely ignoring the chassis, while Shelby put in a sub-400hp engine but tuned the chassis to handle it, and it's quicker around a track and, from the reviews I've read, a much more fun car to drive.

I say it's time for Ford to remake the RS200 and make the Evo and the STi weep for mercy.

Can the stock suspension/chassis etc.. on a production EVO really handle a true rally event? I had the chance to take a stock one around my local road course (2.4 miles with 17 turns) and that thing had fantastic handling, but I just can't see it going off road without serious mods to the chassis. I think these things are more of a "fanboy" street racer type car. Raced in the Camaro Mustang Challenge (CMC) a while, and it is a super cheap way to get into road racing. After learning how to drive fast in a piss poor handling Mustang that Evo was on rails baby!! But the AWD is a crutch and with a turbo the size of your head, some kid is going to fark themselves up bad in one out on the street; as if it hasn't already happened, oh well such as life.

Fun cars but they make you think you're a better driver than you are.

Building up an Ls1 powered F-body for the American Iron Series and it's getting expensive :-(

Vid of CMC/AI. You can road race on the cheap... no EVO, WRX etc.. needed.

They still make ricers? Jeez.. when will they learn that K-Fed got dropped for that ghetto whiteman ricer look?

They should probably work on making the designs for the STi and Evo suck less.

So, let me get this straight. Black people buy spinning hubcaps. White people buy gaudy signs which read "Small penis here!" Got it.

That Evo looks mighty good to me. Heard Subaru is also doing something about the fugliness of latest WRXes.

next-gen Subaru WRX/STi prototype

From the article:
As for power, we are anticipating a highly upgraded version of the 2.5-liter H4 turbo with an output around 330 horsepower, and higher for some markets!

sounds fun

varezz: I just can't see it going off road without serious mods to the chassis.

Can't speak for the Evo, but to take an STi really rally-ready you basically have to seam-weld every piece of the unibody / structure together, then weld in a roll cage.

As for what you put back in after you've taken it completely apart to do those two things, well... I guess it depends on whether you spent all that cash and DON'T want to turn it into a track-/rally-only vehicle.

Some people are a little funny, they get through that great expense (money, time, or both), then load it back up with stock or near stock equipment and never take it off public roads...

I hope the first thing they did was give that ex-Alfa guy a nice big pink slip.

What were they thinking? Sure, hire the guy, sure, fresh ideas, yeah, sure. But to greenlight turning their cars into ones every bit as ugly as Alfas? For fark's sake man...

2007-01-10 04:49:57 AM
^^^ I don't know what you're one about, as Alfas are some of the prettiest cars on the world, yet Subarus are certainly not and look nothing like Alfas.

But hey, those microwindows are totally biatchin' hot right up until the t-bone you never saw coming destroys them.
