Officers said they recognized Krayeske when they saw him speed up on his mountain bike, dump it and jump off, then run up the street and step off the curb into the parade route.

On the one hand, this is creepy fascist crap. On the other hand, he rushed into the parade route... it probably would've just been better for everyone involved to wait for him to make his move (since it was undoubtedly going to be some loud political disruption).

The activist, Ken Krayeske, was on a list of people labeled political threats by police. Rell, in a letter to the state's public safety commissioner, said today that she was "disturbed" to learn of the existence of such a list.

Pxtl: On the other hand, he rushed into the parade route... i

According to one of the officers who certainly has a vested interest putting forth the official police version of the story.

Be nice if someone happened somehow get the entire event on video but that isn't too likely.

Who submitted this?! We need to know! Come forward citizen, it will be easier on you if you just admit to it! Confession is cleansing! Admission is redemption!

Well, you know how them Green Party folks can get, what with their damn petitions and sign waving. Who knows what you can hide under them bajas...

Have you seen the folks who are on DHS watch list in the US? Most of them are American citizens who've protested our current fun in the sun. Not terrorists. Just folks who certain folks in offices don't like and who ask uncomfortable questions.

Nothing new here. Been done for a long while. Ask Paul Robeson. Pete Seger. Scott Camill. Myles Horton. Ben Chavis. Frank Wilkinson. Jim Kutcher.

Just sad that it's still being done, and folks tend to think that this sort of thing just goes away by itself...

Gov. M. Jodi Rell is questioning the arrest of a political activist who allegedly stepped toward her during her inaugural parade last week... "In this environment of heightened security, the use of information must be balanced with the individual rights of our citizens," Rell said

The headline is complete bullshiat. And farkers will not RTFA and come in here and eat it off a plate like it was caviar.

It tries to make it look like there's an association between this person being conservative and the subsequent arrest of the green party member that approached her when none exists.

yes, it's missing something, but of all the intentional misstatements in headlines we get around here...this aint one of 'em.

I don't know. The headline makes it sound like the governor had the guy arrested. Article makes it sound like the police got a little over-vigilant with a local nut.

2007-01-09 03:54:46 AM
well...there's 'makes it seem' and there's 'what it says'.

just seems like of all the headlines to go battastic over, there's a lot more gooder examples of misdirection.

Whats the point of adding party affiliation then? Its irrelevant, or is it just ok to make the automatic negative association between someone being arrested at the behest of all republican politicians?

Because you know, us Republicans are all part of the same Cabal and we're secretly baby eating, devil worshiping spawns of cross bred demon ass monkeys that use money to corrupt the world and claim more souls.... and we're all pissed off that the ACLU saviors to the world never side with us.

According to a police report, officers at the parade recognized Krayeske from a picture provided by state police and the Connecticut Intelligence Center, a multi-agency entity under the umbrella of the state's homeland security programs.

Connecticut Intelligence Center?

Isn't that an oxymoron?

2007-01-09 07:25:43 AM
The green party needs to do outrageous stunts just to get noticed. Even that doesn't work much.

It was a farking inauguration. I can't imagine why they would mention party affiliation.

The Green Party person was probably just running up to the governor really fast, because he was excited to show the governor the awesome toy gun he had in his pocket.

I think it speaks well of the Governor that she finds this troubling, and wants it looked into.

Officers said they recognized Krayeske when they saw him speed up on his mountain bike, dump it and jump off, then run up the street and step off the curb into the parade route.

The officers were practicing due dilligence.

They had a few choices, only one of them good.

Act and be wrong and get smack talked about them.

Ignore the person and be wrong (allowing their charge to die) and have smack talked about them (and he guilt that comes from not acting).

No action and be right (and darned nervous until the moment they know their inaction was right).

Finally, act and be right (and hear praises heaped on them).

It's crappy to have to make the decision ut this is a case where acting early is the least bad choice.

The guy was an asshat. If he was taking a piccy of Streisand, the anti-cons would be making it into Bushes fault for endagering her and the Anti-libs would be cheering him on for the same reasons.

Feel free to post a scathing generalization about your political enemies as a headline, then. This is FARK, so everything done here, more often than not, is done in the spirit of jest.

Just sad that it's still being done, and folks tend to think that this sort of thing just goes away by itself.

Over the long run it does, just like the Red Scare died away. That doesn't make it easier for those who were put on the list for the wrong reasons, but if the society is healthy, then short-term (relatively speaking) reactions mitigate over time.

On the other hand, what exactly does your point have to do with the article at hand? If he didn't run into the parade route, then I'd see it. But if it went down as reported, well then I think he justified his spot on the "keep an eye out for these buggers" list.

Pre-emptive arrest on suspicion of being a malcontent is bad; arresting a malcontent that actually did something wrong is not so bad. In the same vein, having a list of people that may cause problems isn't bad; pre-emptively acting on that list without due cause is bad.

PS If the list was gathered from public sources (ie the arsehole had a record) then I'd very much say that this is not the outrage you are looking for...move along.

Could be worse, like Rhode Island... or Massachusetts *shivers*. At the very least the state is run well and efficiently and if Bridgeport were to go underwater, corruption would be a small issue.

Right or wrong, both of those guys advocated the overthrow of the government, through violence if necessary. Resulting in a war that killed more than 100,000 people.

Okay. I'm all about Teh Freedomz, but Krayeske farked up. It wouldn't have mattered if it was a Republican charging a Democrat governor, or a Reformer trying to disrupt a Communist governor (I know, I know...I'm speaking in terms of context).

Politics aside, this fellow acted the fool.
