mathmatix: oh and judging by the comments and past history, i think you named the submitter in your post, eventhough he does seem cordial....lol

Yeah, he is already on autoblame when one of these threads go green. I believe he wields far more power than he would lead us to believe, be it his own direct powers or by proxy through a TF friendship with a Buckeye fan modmin.

Troy is going to have run, will run, and will be successful running (for the most part).
i do agree with taht, if he can scramble and get some first downs, its going to be a long day for the gators.

if it doesnt come down to field goals, the special teams are aboot even right now as far as i am concerned... both tOSU and UF have explosive kick returners and punt returners, both have excellent coverage teams on both punts and kickoffs. so like i said i think it will come down to the defenses, the ones making the key stops early will have the momentum and god knows that crowd is going to be at least 60-40 in favor of tOSU, so we(the gators, i dont play for them) need big plays and momentum from the defense early

/out seriously.. but good post ksobby
//i am completely willing to admit florida's mistakes and faults
///hence no reference to chris leak, i'd be complaining/whining aboot him and then "brady quinn"ing him saying how courageous and poised he is...

Geez, I had a brain lapse and was reading BSU as Ball State. I had completely written off the sports section of Fark until I read the blue field comment.

Anyway, my prediction OSU 26, Florida 21. Good luck Buckeyes.

Well, I live in Ohio, so all of the local fans and radio had me considering just that plan of yours. However, it seems to me that this is being surpassed by the vociferousness of the Florida fans, so I'm pushed back to my Big Ten loyalties.

Not that I was the submitter of course, but if I was the submitter the headline would have been intended for people such as he who shall not be named because his posts have all been deleted so he did something really bad apparently and Beerz, who has now taken the name of BoSchembechler. I think Ohio State could, and will, win this one.

But for the purposes of this thread, I'm going to predict an upset (based on the long OSU layoff, and the fact that Michigan was completely exposed as a pretender). I'm going to call it 31-28 Florida.

Call it a silly choice... as OSU has the bowl history on their side with Jimmy Sweatervest, and OSU has without question been the top team in the nation this year. Again, I've thought OSU was going to win this one since they were announced to play Florida. But... I dunno, I have one of those feelings that I might as well predict the upset. (it may easily be a 41-24 OSU blowout of the Gators... that can be my alternative pick)

Besides, with the Boise win... the BCS could use even more shaking up. Hopefully, somehow Florida wins, and SOMEHOW Boise State gets the AP title... just to ruin everyone's fun. ;)

It's an order of magnitude more difficult if the offense is almost entirely trick plays/misdirections/etc
It's obvious someone missed almost the entire Fiesta Bowl. They had their trick plays at the end, some misdirections. But that certainly wasn't the entire playbook.

I can tell you for a fact that Boise has played ten times better in a game I witnessed earlier this season (Oregon State, who actually beat a good team this year). They weren't perfect against the Beavers, but looked fresher on both sides of the ball.
Oklahoma, on the other hand... I saw them against Oregon. I don't know why so many people got so hard about how good the Sooners were. Oregon sucked this year... Sooner fans can blame the refs all they want, but their D got completely torched by a subpar quarterback in the final minute of that game.

The Sooners didn't do the right thing on offense in the Fiesta, which would've been to simply run the ball all day long. Boise would've been dead by the end of the game... but the Sooners threw early and got burned by a pretty active pass D (though holes existed).
Boise went conservative when they got the 28-10 lead. That was also bad... as they could've ended that game, and blown Oklahoma out.

Ohio State 35
Florida 24

Thats my call.

LAst Friday Boise State's president was talking about moving from the WAC to the Mountain West because it would save (BIG) on travel costs. That bothered me a lot because I think the MWC is the weaker conference.... if you look at the bowl records AND head to head records, i believe the WAC wins. I think (even before the fiesta bowl) the nation as a whole has more respect for the WAC than they do the Mountain West.

It would be even more frustrating as a WAC/PAc-10 fan because it would split up the Idaho-Boise STate conference game, as well as be ANOTHER defection from the WAC to the Mountain West. What's funny is that the Mountain West was formed because the schools wanted more money. Everyone talks about how championship games = more money for the schools. Before the MWC was formed, the WAC was a LARGE conference that HAD a championship game played in Las Vegas, and the MWC was formed and wrecked it.

I don't know where i was going with this, but i thought it was interesting. Championship games only make money if your conference is interesting to begin with. PErsonally I think it'd be a nice gesture if the MWC and the WAC reunited and picked up SMU and/or UTEP. That way they could have two 9 team divisions with no cross-divisional play and a real conference championship game that wouldn't be a lame-o rematch.

WAC West: HAwaii, SJSU, SDSU, Fresno, Boise, Idaho, NEvada, UNLV, Wyoming

WAC East: BYU, Utah, New MExico, New MExico State, TCU, UTEP/SMU, Colorado State, Air Force, LA Tech.

/i think thats all i have to say
//baorao , mathmatix, and WoodyHayes i know you guys don't know much about the WAC, but y'all do know about CFB as a whole, so what do y'all think?

It's a tough call. The Mountain West has BYU... that's a major mid-major, with a rich football history.

I think many people knew the WAC (before the Orange) simply as the conference that had Fresno State, who would pull upsets every now and then.

2007-01-08 03:39:12 PM
I like the idea about a reunified, large WAC. I'd take a couple schools out of there, though... it's almost TOO big.

Thanks buddy.

WSUCanuck: i know you guys don't know much about the WAC, but y'all do know about CFB as a whole, so what do y'all think?

Well, the WAC is one of those conference that has decent teams at the top such as Hawaii and Boise State, mid-level teams like Nevada and Fresno State (whose chance to become a regional powerhouse may have passed now that they're apparently on the decline for whatever reason), and not much else. Idaho just got out of 1-AA status not too long ago, I hate to say it but the WAC just doesn't have too much beyond Boise State and Hawaii.

Sorry, don't have enough time to write much else. I've got to go take a shower (hooray for being in pajamas all day) and hit the store for more supplies.

2007-01-08 03:55:42 PM
Besides, maybe my bold prediction of Florida is a move to get Ohio State to win? I mean, I do like tOSU moreso than any SEC teams. And I don't want to hear the SEC fans come in and tell us how great they are, with Florida winning and LSU beating an overrated-as-hell team.

That is an interesting proposal. I think what I would probably like (if I could be king of CFB, as as Yahoo! Sports says, Jim Delaney) I would do this:

Push two of these four: Utah/BYU/San Diego St/Fresno St. to the PAC-10 and make it have 12 teams.

Make a 16 team super conference out of the remainders, which allows some extra OOC games with other conferences, since there would be some cynicism about the strength of the conference.

Force Notre Dame into the Big Ten.

Figure something out that would give the Big East four more quality teams. Probably involves pillaging the MAC. A huge game of musical chairs ensues with the MAC bringing back Marshall and probably some other C-USA schools.

Make a 12 team playoff with each of the Big Six BCS conferences guaranteed a spot to the conference champion. Plus now you give a spot to the new WAC/MWC and the MAC/C-USA champs. Then you fill it with four at-large berths and you call it good.

I just think an 18 team conference creates a huge miss if that conference tries to rotate schedules. If the schedules are static, then it defeats the purpose of having one unified conference except that it gives all teams a shot of winning an otherwise unreachable playoff spot, which I like.

I think Boise St. definitely proves that a playoff is in order. Not because they could win it, but because they could knock someone out of it and make things a whole lot more interesting.

baorao: I think Boise St. definitely proves that a playoff is in order. Not because they could win it, but because they could knock someone out of it and make things a whole lot more interesting.

Nicely said. What would you think about keeping rankings and non-BCS bowls exactly as-is, and then have the top-ranked 16 teams play a playoff, with their playoff games as their bowls? Of course there'd be controversy about teams not making the 16, but that's a lot easier to live with if you have a decided national champion.

2007-01-08 04:01:21 PM
WoodyHayes: Damnit dude, nothing against you or anything but all the teams you want to win don't. What can I do to convince you to root for the Gators?

You can delete all your Michigan/OSU scoreboard .jpegs. And by delete I mean never to be posted in a Fark or TF thread ever again. I know you don't use them on me now, but sooner or later I am going to get over my Michigan heartache or Michigan is going to fire LLLoyd and I'll gain some confidence in their ability to not lose the last two games of the season. And you'll be there waiting for me, jpegs in hand. Think about it. How bad do you really want this national championship? You just had one, its not like you're desperate. Just think about it for a while and get back to me.

2007-01-08 04:02:47 PM
puffy999: I like the idea about a reunified, large WAC. I'd take a couple schools out of there, though... it's almost TOO big.

I made it extra big so that we wouldn't have what the SEC and the ACC have, which is teams playing random teams from the other division

(Florida playing LSU, but not Arkansas in the regular season) A team in the WAC West would play all the teams in the WAC West, but not play any of the teams in the WAC East. A team in the WAC East would play all of the teams in the WAC East but none of the teams in the WAC West... it really was not that hard to keep travel expenses and regional rivalries intact... as a matter of fact, i kept all regional rivalries together...

Boise-Idaho, Boise-Fresno, SJSU-Fresno, SDSU-Fresno, Nevada-UNLV, BYU-Utah, Colorado State-Air Force, New Mexico-NMState, UTEP-NMState, SMU-TCU...

This alignment would make the Championship game a defacto Bowl game since there is NO chance that the two teams meeting in the game would have played earlier in the season.

FeBolas: What would you think about keeping rankings and non-BCS bowls exactly as-is, and then have the top-ranked 16 teams play a playoff, with their playoff games as their bowls? Of course there'd be controversy about teams not making the 16, but that's a lot easier to live with if you have a decided national champion.

I think that'd be the best way to do it. As far as those crappier bowls go, would you rather watch the utterly meaningless Motor City Bowl? Or would you rather watch the Motor City Bowl featuring the MAC champ vs. Big East champ with the winner advancing to play your favorite team? I know what I'd rather watch. And yeah, the debate over teams 15-18 would be a lot more palatable than the #2-#4.

The only thing I'd change for rankings, and I don't know how you'd do this, but I'd try to eliminate preseason rankings. The AP can always go rogue on you and rank them anyways, but if you set Oct. 1 (approximately) as your first poll date, then I think you could get a more accurate picture of the actual top 25 teams in the nation.

baorao: Push two of these four: Utah/BYU/San Diego St/Fresno St. to the PAC-10 and make it have 12 teams.

Leave my Pac-10 alone. Everyone plays everyone, clear cut Conference champion every year. Kthx.

Force Notre Dame into the Big Ten.

Despite more of their games being against Big Televen opponents, the logical choice for Notre Dame is the Big East, since thats the conference they're in for every other sport.

Figure something out that would give the Big East four more quality teams. Probably involves pillaging the MAC. A huge game of musical chairs ensues with the MAC bringing back Marshall and probably some other C-USA schools.

The Big East would pretty much have to cut USF since they're an extreme outlier, or pick up (in addition to Notre Dame) Memphis, East Carolina or Southern Mississippi to try and make travel fairer.

The Big Televen would add 1-3 MAC teams and

The Sun Belt would be disbanded, the Northern teams in the Conf USA join the MAC and the Southern teams in the Conf USA pick up the Sun Belt's garbage.... OR.... the ACC and the SEC make up their superconference with the easternmost teams of the SunBelt to avoid the rotating schedules you talk about.

The best way to determine a conference champion is with static schedules so that teams don't hit-or-miss.

my next post will have every team assigned to a conference if i were NCAA overlord and had supreme power...
