Yeah, Youngstown State and Utah are playing.

This thread is useless without Vince.

PseudoNic: Yeah, Youngstown State and Utah are playing.

Youngstown State is a 1-AA powerhouse as you well know but it seems sort of strange to have Utah play them this late in the regular season.

Gosh, I need to go down to the store and buy a Mormon so I can get the Mormon chili started. I realize BYU is the Mormon school but it'll have to do in a pinch.

Hold on Brutus, I'll go with you and try not to hold on too tightly out in public!

Would have been awesome if he had stayed, no long term damage supposedly to Colt McCoy's right shoulder though right?

WoodyHayes: no long term damage supposedly to Colt McCoy's right shoulder though right?

His dad and my uncle used to coach together back in the day, and over the holidays hi pops said he had no long term damage. His accuracy looked shaky in the Iowa game, but that may have just been two months of rust. We're so out of QBs right now if he ends up hurt. We could have signed Ryan Perrilloux (LSU) and Mark Sanchez (USC) but who in their right mind wanted to play behind Vince?

I don't like to knock college kids but what Ryan Perrilloux did to Texas was unreal, I'm not sure I'd want somebody like that on my team anyways. He has been whining and crying at LSU as well and may not start next year even if JaMarcus Russell does goes pro.

That is the same sort of problem we had at RB for a year or two. After Maurice Clarett we didn't get any RB commits for the 2003 class so we had Lydell Ross and Maurice Hall running the football for us. Woody bless them and all that good stuff but they weren't Division 1 running backs, at least not at a major level.

For real, he got torched on all the message boards and for weeks during our poker games. What a douche. I'd rather have Jevan Snead, but the kid is good and he knows that he wasn't going to get any PT around here as long as the Colt could play.

The beauty of college football, guys like that can get the job done if they go out there and give it their all. Kinda like Major Applewhite. 5'10", 185lbs, slow, weak arm, and heart as big as Texas!

I can't really blame Jevan Snead for transferring, considering that Colt McCoy was a year ahead of him that'd mean Snead wouldn't get to play until his senior year since he didn't redshirt. You hate to see a kid transfer but I guess if you're not going to get playing time it makes sense I suppose.

Thanks buddy, perhaps we should arrange a home-and-home between our two schools so at least one of us has a shot at the national title every year!

Well, it worked once...I don't know if I'd like to see it every year. Of course my two days on Columbus were awesome. Except the douchebag who hit my girl with a sandwich.

I can't really blame Jevan Snead for transferring

I don't blame him either. Nobody expected Colt McCoy to be a better QB than an Elite11 kid. I think him going to SC may not be the best fit for him either. Poor kid, he hasn't made the right choice about his career yet.

I know Major Applewhite is a cult hero down there, good stuff!

If Mack could've put that kid's fight into Chris Simms...

If Florida wins, there should be one more game played. It's time to ensure there is no debate over who is the champion. Everybody would make a metric assload of money, the ratings would be through the roof and never again would there ever be any doubt.

GO FLORIDA!!! Then give BSU one final game.

Can we please stop the Boise State BCS crap? Please?

They played a bunch of crappy, unranked teams. Give them any other top 25 team's schedule and they would have been toast.

They squeaked out a 1 point, OT win over Oklahoma. While impressive, it does not even remotely make them a viable candidate for the BCS championship.

End of discussion.

popfreak: They squeaked out a 1 point, OT win over Oklahoma. While impressive, it does not even remotely make them a viable candidate for the BCS championship.

I don't even rate it as impressive. Oklahoma didn't really approach the game seriously and they played like it. If that game had taken place one week after the Big 12 championship game AND if Oklahoma had taken it very seriously and approached it the same way they prepped for their other big games, then it would have been different.

Also, it's alway hard to prep for a team that runs an offense you haven't played against before. It's an order of magnitude more difficult if the offense is almost entirely trick plays/misdirections/etc. You don't see that during a normal season. Boise scored at least twice before Oklahoma started getting used to their offense; then they mostly shut them down until they pulled out the trick plays in the fourth and overtime.

If Boise State seriously wants the respect they feel they deserve, then they need to play a much, much more respectible non-conference schedule starting as soon as possible. When they go on the road and play Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Nebraska, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, et. al. and come out with a spotless record, then I'll give them all the credit. Until then, I'll just say they played a soft, easy schedule, racked up lots of easy wins, then tricked and surprised an unprepared Oklahoma squad.

*sigh* but I am going to watch anyways. I'll more than likely be rooting for whichever team and fans seem the least douchiest during the pregame and which team the announcers seem to most accurately discuss. Between "zOMG Ted Ginn Jr.!!! seriously you schedule three of those teams you are going to lose, regardless of who you are....

OSU 35 FLA 21

And surprisingly, the defenses will be the story of the game.

My prediction:

Ohio State - 35
Florida - 10

Was going to say 35 3, but I figure Florida gets a garbage TD in the closing minutes of the game.

So what is the obscure non-football related link between the two teams that will be harped on all evening?

Since it's going to be on Fox, the "gratuitous camera shot of a Fox TV star in the stands" drinking game is in effect.

2007-01-08 02:17:47 PM
mathmatix: seriously you schedule three of those teams you are going to lose, regardless of who you are....

If Boise State wants respect, then they have to schedule at least 2-3 of these types of opponents on their non-conference schedule each year. Until they play the big boys, then will never command any real respect, especially with their trick pony offense. It's fun to watch, but will never, ever command respect.

2007-01-08 02:18:13 PM
oh and if you are looking for a prediction from me:

florida 27-OSU 20

florida misses two extra points and scores a touchdown late, forced to go for two in case OSU scores a touchdown.....

27-20, being a defensive struggle, thinking at least one turnover each way will be returned for a touchdown...

so far nearly everyone picking the buckeyes have completely discounted florida's defense, i am thinking you guys will be surprised, eh except for woody and maybe a couple of others...

i wasnt disagreeing with you, more making the comment that besides conference schedules, you are lucky if any team schedules any more than two of them....

i would love to see boise state playing florida, even if florida loses just because it would be fun to watch and nice to see a new up and coming D1 program doing well(i think during the broadcast it said they have only been D1 for ten years). but saying that almost no program, major to elite, will schedule them for that very reason.... notre dame isnt going to remove stanford for someone like boise state.
i give credit to tOSU and a few other programs for scheduling outside their conference for home and home games vs. teams like texas. thats great for college football regardless who wins the game......

basically my point is, I am sure BSU is trying to schedule out of conference games more, but are meeting a lot of resistance from the major conferences.

Yeah we're totally cool. The douchiest thing wasn't targeted at anyone specifically. I just thought of it because submitter went out of his way to take a shot at the Wolverines. I think I can speak for Fark's Michigan fans when I say that the only thing worse than the Rose Bowl could have been laying that same egg in the NC game. We have since waved the white flag on the BCS argument many times over. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone (not you or WoodyHayes) here found a reason to bring that up.

Oh and ESPN is reporting that Alan Branch is leaving Michigan for the NFL, announcement at 3pm. I figured that would be the case when he kept quiet during the last few weeks while others said they'd return, but I still held out hope.

mathmatix: basically my point is, I am sure BSU is trying to schedule out of conference games more, but are meeting a lot of resistance from the major conferences.

Yeah they are firmly entrenched in the no man's land of college football. Nobody wants to give them all their due respect as a legit program, but nobody wants to schedule them to prove otherwise either.

I'm not really discounting the defenses ... but with two offenses this talented ... it again comes down to reaction time by the defense.

I don't think Florida's secondary can cover the field the way OSU's can. The KEY struggle (like always) is the giant OSU O-line versus all those athletes up front for Florida. Troy will have *some* time.

Troy is going to have run, will run, and will be successful running (for the most part).

This will be a defensive struggle no matter what. Both D's are too good to be run roughshod over - BUT - the offenses are just as talented and can't be denied for a full 60.

Florida's achilles heel will be their special teams. OSU will win the field position game and thus the game.

/ then again, what do I know? I played soccer in college.
