That's pretty cool. I wish they'd say how long it ran, 'cuz the old ones couldn't even last as long as I do.

2006-12-23 10:55:19 AM
That video would have been much more amusing if he were dressed up like a monkey and divebombing little people.

2006-12-23 11:02:22 AM
Cool!

what they dont mention is that he jumped out of a plane to do that, basically all it is if i recall correcly is a pair of wings and a small motor to propell you

Loki009: it is if i recall correcly is a pair of wings and a small motor to propell you

So like a jet-powered ultralite that can't take off on it's own?

Nice1.

/Still waiting for the Moller SkyCar to get FAA approval.

Dear Santa,

Please ignore my previous letter I'd really prefer a Jet Pack. Oh, and World Peace like I said before,

2006-12-23 04:46:00 PM
THAT'S where I left it!

2006-12-23 04:48:24 PM
Pretty cool, but where is MY jetpack?

2006-12-23 04:48:48 PM
The heck with Nascar...I'd pay good money to see a couple of these things race.

2006-12-23 04:49:16 PM
That is RLY cool! But I think I'll wait for it to be Darwin-proofed a bit more before I place my order.

Hiller Aviation, circa 1960, and it was a more James Bond-style approach (a VTOL aircraft). This article is fail.

Huzzah. A new EXTREEEEEEME! rich kids sport.

2006-12-23 05:01:07 PM
gonna be rich kids all flyin through the air doing flips above the apartments in the ghetto laughing at the poor people.

then suddenly they will be on the ground dead with a mysterious hole in one of the wings.

but what would happen if he farts?

2006-12-23 05:05:43 PM
I don't want a jet pack. I want a farkin' flying car. One that I can buy, right now, and drive to work.

If I can commute via jet pack I would take one though. But I can't so stfu.

/bitter cuz we drive basically the same cars as our grandfathers did

studebaker hoch: When everyone has one of these in their driveway, traffic jams will be a thing of the past.

Probably not, just a lot more dangerous . . . a fender bender will be a death sentence.

2006-12-23 05:07:54 PM
Flight time is 6min, he drops out a plane like a normal skydiver, deploys the wings, flies for 6min, deploys a chute and lands.

Nothing close to what most people are thinking.

/I was promised flying cars
//I don't see ANY flying cars
///Why? Why? Why?

2006-12-23 05:11:04 PM
You REALLY think they're just going to let people fly cars around, unregulated, with no traffic system? Riiiight. Because people are responsible enough on their own on the ground WITH traffic controls in place. Yep, we'll all be flying to work REAL soon.

2006-12-23 05:11:05 PM
not really a jetpack, you have to be able to take off and land, cool none the less.

2006-12-23 05:11:51 PM
olavf: /Still waiting for the Moller SkyCar to get FAA approval.

Likely never for general public, too many ways to fail. Will always be a novelty.

Lose a corner you are a pinwheel, disk loading too high, multi-engines are for redundancy, not supposed to be essential for flight and control

2006-12-23 05:11:52 PM
There has to be a military project that is doing this kind of stuff already.

Has to be.

I think we've just seen the first prototype of a Palestinian Cruise Missile (PCM) as well.

2006-12-23 05:14:12 PM
I can see this being used in modern warfare. For example:

Kick that tank's ass, rocket man!

He just flew in from Switzerland, and boy are his arms tired.

thewah: I think we've just seen the first prototype of a Palestinian Cruise Missile (PCM) as well.

Methinks, Oh Shiat, you might be right!

2006-12-23 05:22:19 PM
That is cool, but I'd be happy with a helium powered lawn chair that flies at 16,000 feet.

2006-12-23 05:22:25 PM
This does have the potential for a practical military application: landing paratroopers some significant distance from their drop plane, rather than relying solely on piloting a parachute through air currents.

Obviously parachute control is still part of it, though

dropped from a high altitude you can cover an impressive distance with a wingsuit. Plus it's like a brazillian times cheaper.

The jet engine used in the Tomahawk cruise missile was designed for a jetpack.
Kerosene fuel, 30min to 60 min flight time.
However.... too heavy to lug around even when out of fuel.
More like a VTOL that wears you.

Is "Able to carry it on your back" a critera for a "jetpack"?

2006-12-23 05:38:40 PM
worthlessjuan

I was making a joke.

The Moller skycar has been exposed as a scam.

Nope... Strap in, hang on, and kill some bugs when you get planetside.

2006-12-23 05:43:30 PM
That Moller Skycar should be really cool. It'll have virtually unlimited range with a fusion powerpack, which should be commercially available right about the time he actually ships the first functioning unit.
