shipofthesun: I'm still laughing, at the memory of that thread, not even the content.

I remember trying to work at home, trying to explain the whole thing to my fiancee, and being unable to get more than a few words out before my oxygen gave out...

I think that's because of Firefox extensions that are loaded...

same

It's a Firefox extension.

2006-12-18 07:18:12 PM
... oh I get it. You have to fail at the English language to get it, though, because last time I checked, Unilever didn't produce the product called the "Q-tip" It's called a farking cotton swab, which about ten other companies manufacture.

Yes, it goes on and on my friend
Some people

I understand where TheRaven7 is coming from...

Not everyone thinks of a photocoper as a 'xerox' machine, and Xerox does other things besides make copiers, so its very likely that theres gonna be some segement of the population that wont get the reference.

Another example is the word 'pop'.

If I said 'My pop is the best', what it means to different people would depend on their age, location and how geeky they are. An older person would think i was talking about my father. Someone from the extreme northeast US would think i was referring to my carbonated beverage, and a geek would think I was referring to my mail server.

Yeah, he went overboard with the font size, but everyone else was way too assholish in slapping him down for not getting the joke.

Strangely enough, I initally thought the three-peat was in homage to an earlier headline about the new marketing techniques and the 'Head-On' repetition.

/gives TheRaven7 a hug

zz9: Just adding to the comments already posted about this guy screwing up with PARC.

For those not in the know Xerox, worried about "paperless Offices" and the lack of photocopiers needed therein, funded a research facility called PARC.

PARK invented the lot. The mouse, windows, icons, GUIs and made working machines. Then, not only did this guy and the board of Xerox dismiss it all out of hand they ORDERED the developers to give a demonstration to Bill Gates. The team leader actually refused and when ordered he demanded the order in writing saying "You don't realise what you're doing. You're giving away the crown jewels."

They gave him the order in writing. Bill Gates watched, said "Very nice", and left...

You could seriously argue that this guy cost Xerox fifty billion dollars. Maybe much more.

Wow. You could not have screwed that story up much more...

Steve Jobs and crew from Apple were the ones who went to PARC, not Bill Gates. Gates just stole it in turn from Apple.

PARC didn't invent the mouse, either.

At first I saw that there were three of the same headlines. Then I read one and laughed of course.

Very nice, Submitter

Now I think she just hopes I have a stroke. :D

I've never heard of somebody refer to their pop3 server as "their pop"...

I've heard people say their "pop server"..

But never their pop.. Not that I doubt people do, somewhere, but that's just kind of wierd.

When people say "my pop", in computer lingo, they're usually referring to Point of Presence.

Wow, this thread has it all. Great Headline . Dumbest poster ever, in fact, dumb as a post. Lets just hope TheRaven7 doesn't have the opportunity to breed. His TF subscription should help take care of that.

Red means it's been seen by a moderator/admin and won't make the main page of FARK. Blue is newest. Black means it hasn't been decided if it will be green or redlit.

Bow out gracefully, TheRaven7.
Somebody give him something shiny. Stat.

Okay. To TheRaven7:

www.mit.edu

Next time you miss an obvious joke or make a boneheaded mistake, just admit you goofed and Farkers will probably let it slide. Go on an illogical counter-offensive and you're gonna get slammed for it.

I'm not sure what's more impressive, the fact that subby though of it, or that an Admin greened all three.
