So all I have to do is complain that the security checkpoint gestapo is violating my religious freedom, and they will reomve it? All right!

I really think people should get over themselves.

the ones who complain about Christmas symbolism at Christmas time.
The ones who complain that group 1 is complaining.
And Finally, the ones that post on internet sites how stupid group 2 is.

/ and finally those that post on that same site how full of themselves group 3 is.

seriously, that's a gem. What makes it perfect is that self-righteous tone he has when he says it.

Why is that the only time bureaucrats seem to have any backbone is when they are school administrators enforcing some asinine "zero tolerance" policy?

I tried to get over myself once, but I found myself complaining about my efforts to do so, and was offended by my own offense. Now I am just cynical about how I just can't seem to get along with myself, no matter how many compromises I offer.

ONE person complained? I would tell him to go away, and get a life.
It's not a religious symbol, and I have know families that have Chanukah bushes each year.

What would happen if the airport didn't comply?
Nothing. It's not as though they're in danger of being boycotted, as people sure aren't gonna walk, or take the bus cross country, or overseas.

2006-12-10 12:37:13 AM
Then put up a farking menorah and tell the guy to STFU.

Problem solved.

2006-12-10 12:38:58 AM
If the airport is owned by the gov't, I could see the guy's point in the removal of the trees. But if it's privately operated (which it kinda looks that way from a quick skimming of the page for the Port of Seattle) then they should just tell the guy to fark off and they'll display whatever the hell they want to display.

That said, I thought most places like this would have been displaying menorahs years ago...

Not a government building... already covered by theXerox... pagan symbol, Dinjiin just got it. Atheist, yet there's a yule tree right behind me...yeah Dinjiin kinda beat me on that one too.

I have absolutely nothing to say on this subject.

It's all up to Ernest P. Worrell now...

2006-12-10 01:18:24 AM
Dear Christians,

50 years from now, we'll all share a laugh over Jesus, Mithras, Zeus, and Apollo. Until then, STFU and keep your nomadic superstitions where they belong: in your delusional brain.

Sincerely,

Every rational person in the world.

PS. Christmas trees are a pagan traditional. Suck it.

2006-12-10 01:22:34 AM
Wait, I'll try to channel Mel:

"TEH JOOS! TEH JOOS! TEH JOOS!"

Can't really do it. While I'd like to side with the airport, I cannot believe that with such a diverse population they wouldn't have tried to accommodate differing "holiday symbols".

It sounds to me like whoever approved the decoration scheme didn't apply nearly enough thought or time to the situation, and that the Rabbi in question probably spent too much time and thought to the situation.

2006-12-10 01:22:50 AM
So how many complaints would it take to bring down that epic tree in Rockefeller Center? I bet it's a hell of a lot bigger.

P.S. Most Christian holidays are based off of pagan rituals, that doesn't mean they can't still be fun.

Dude, fark that shiat. Christmas is a religious thing my ass. Originally? Maybe, but it sure as hell isn't anymore.

2006-12-10 01:27:38 AM
I love holidays. I do. I'm not a Christian and I don't celebrate Christmas. And every Christmas people wish me a Merry Christmas and I don't care. Tree are pretty and even the story about Christmas is beautiful. Its a chance for families to gather. But like any religious holiday it belongs in the home or in stores which support. I don't complain because it doesn't bother me. But imagine being surrounded by a view point with which you do not agree all the time. Imagine being a minority religion and having the majority surround you all the time. It is understandable why people would want either equal showing (which is what the rabbi wanted) or removal of another religion's celebratory tradition. No, the Christmas tree is not a part of sanctioned practice, yes the tradition derives from pagan mythos, no it doesn't matter because it is the accepted majority representation of Christmas. And Christmas which despite the commercialization and adoption by non-Christians is still at its root a religious celebration. And as a religious celebration there should be a seperation or an equal showing in regards to other religions.

2006-12-10 01:28:26 AM
EzraS: Dude, fark that shiat. Christmas is a religious thing my ass. Originally? Maybe, but it sure as hell isn't anymore.

Yeah, but that would argue that if it's a secular symbol of consumerism then there's no issue with the decoration. Was that your point? Just asking.

2006-12-10 01:30:05 AM
Depending on my mood I can argue this one either way, but when it comes down to it, I don't see why one group should be offended by another group's beliefs.

Then again, I spent a good chunk of the last month reading about why a guy I voted for (Keith Ellison)shouldn't be allowed to swear on the quran when he goes into office.

The only solution I can see is for everyone to STFU and stop complaining about what other people do on their own time. If someone is going to be offended by having to take down their Xmas trees, then they shouldn't really be able to express their disapproval of anyone else's lifestyle.

2006-12-10 01:30:06 AM
I guess we should be thankful that the rabbi didn't try to bulldoze the airport.

Nothing pleases me more than watching X-Tians squirm as they try to justify why their beliefs deserve special treatment.

It will be a glorious day indeed when this cancer of a superstition is wiped from the earth.

By the way, where exactly is the 'fattest part' of a person's ass?

Sigh.

This is how whirlpools of suck start.

First, some whiny douchebag complains about a tree. Douchebag count: 1.

Next, some spineless goob removes the tree after ONE complaint. Douchebag count: 2.

Then, a herd of culturally overprivileged, pig ignorant crybabies from the Right will spazz out about the "War On Christmas" and equate the removal of the tree with anti-Christian sentiment. Douchebag count: Infinity.

THEN, a herd of culturally overprivileged, pig ignorant crybabies from the Left will spazz out about how the presence of the tree is equivalent to putting the Ten Commandments in a courthouse. Douchebag count: Infinity Plus One.

THEN, the previous herd of culturally overprivileged, pig ignorant crybabies from the Right will nail themselves up on the Cross about how they're oppressed because they don't get to assume they control everything. Douchebag count: Infinity Plus One Plus One.

THEN, the previous herd of culturally overprivileged, pig ignorant crybabies from the Left will nail themselves up on the Cross about how they're oppressed because they don't get to assume they control everything. Douchebag count: Infinity Plus One Plus One Plus One.

And you know where that leads.

what if one person goes and complains that there aren't any Christmas trees? Do they go back up?

2006-12-10 01:40:37 AM
So there are 15 trees at Seatac.

here's the solution.

4 of these trees should be decorated in a traditional christmas fashion.

3 of these trees should be pruned to the height of a shrub, then decorated in a traditional hannukah bush fashion, complete with dried matzo ball ornaments.

3 of these trees should be replaced with catcii, which will be decorated in a kwanza fashion.

The remaining 5 trees are decorated thusly:

1 should be left bare to support atheism.

1 should be bewitched to support paganism.

1 should be decorated in black with pentagrams and hung upside down to support satanism.

1 should be adorned with spagetti and meatballs in honor of the FSM.

And finally, the last tree should be decorated with all those socks that go missing in your dryer.

Well, there's a difference between CHRISTmas and Christmas™. I think it's a real shame people celebrate Christmas™.

"traditional" and "hannukah bush" don't belong in the same sentence.

kwanza celebrants put up a menorah. just to confuse the anthropologists 500 years from now.

Announcing the "Bureay" awards, to be handed out at the annual bureaucrat convention in Washington DC. Here are the catagories:

-Most Fun Eliminated
-Best Abuse of the Power of Office to Promote Christianity in a Governmental Venue
-Best Crushing of the Youthful Spirit
-Most Outrageous Waste of Taxpayer Money
-Strictest Adherent to an Asinine "Zero Tolerance" policy
-Greatest Amount of Progress Obstructed
-Least Necessary Cave-In to a Pressure Group
-Most Asinine Interpretation of a Rule or Regulation

And, of course, the coveted "Church Lady" award for outstanding repression of human sexuality. Vote early, vote often for your faves!

This is precisely why multiculturalism doesn't work on any level. You end up with a watered-down culture/society afraid of offending anyone.

2006-12-10 01:53:25 AM
I can't believe people are offended by a tree with pretty lights. That's just stupid. It's not like it's a farking cross.

2006-12-10 01:54:11 AM
We need to remember the true spirit of Christmas: getting children to believe in mythical philanthropists.
