Are they still playing? I thought the players were going on strike.

I can hear the twang of his hamstring now....

I vote for three weeks.

There are worse JokerFoo. Most Seattlites would say ARod deserves that prize. I don't really care one way or the other. Griffey was great when we were both in Seattle. After that I lost interest.

He was pretty badass when he was here on the Mariners though.

2002-07-22 07:34:07 PM
Nah, I'd say Randy Johnson was more ungrateful than Alex or Griffey.

2002-07-22 07:34:07 PM
[darth] I find Farks lack of boobies disturbing [/darth]

2002-07-22 07:34:54 PM
And the Reds still suck. Seriously now, all they need in the OF is Kearns, Dunn, and (before he was traded) Encarnacion. Since he's gone though, Branyan will do. Griffey is not needed.

"Without Griffey, they are 41-31 and trail first-place St. Louis by 3½ games in the National League Central"

Holy Shiat! The cards in first! I really need to pay more attention to my home-town team.

2002-07-22 07:37:19 PM
Now bring Strawberry back so we can start a countdown to his next arrest.

2002-07-22 07:37:52 PM
I am personally guessing he will be healthy until the season ending strike comes. Or should I say baseball-ending?

Anyway, say what you want about Griffey. When he's healthy, which he was up until the last couple of years, he had one of the sweetest swings in the game.

Junior is like Tiger Woods, used to be really good, peaked, now is on the downswing of their career. It's really sad to watch good athletes like that hold on past their peak.

Would you care to explain how exactly Tiger Woods is on the downswing of his career? Did I miss something?

2002-07-22 07:46:04 PM
Tiger Woods is going to/already did place below first in the recent tournament after winning a bazillion. Obviously, he sucks now. ;-)

Ah golf-talk perhaps the thing possibly more boring than baseball.

Wldcrzy, thanks for that isketch site. Now, I have more reasons to stay up.

A-Rod was the worst of the group. After going to Texas, he signed a letter with a bunch of other corporate pigs in Texas urging Boeing to go down there too, resulting in the loss of a few thousand jobs.

He deserved every boo he got at Safeco.

2002-07-22 07:53:03 PM
Griffey will go back on the DL August 2. You read it here first.

2002-07-22 07:53:52 PM
To clarify: my statement about Griffey was not about his talent or capabilities ... but his attitude. Correct me if I'm wrong, but even in Seattle he was famous for quotes to the effect of "the game? shiate, i can take it or leave it ... it's a just a job ... i really don't have to play if I don't want". I seem to recall him having that attitude long before he got to Cincy.

What is considered an unacceptable post on the comment boards?
Messages bereft of content (e.g. 50 lines of the letter "J")

2002-07-22 08:12:54 PM
But silence is content. Let's just hope he doesn't get sued by...whoever it was. Ah, forget it.

QUICK GRIFFEY STORY:
A beat writer for the times was interviewing Mariners for different stories during the stretching session... He couldn't find Griffey anywhere. So he walked into the clubhouse and he found Griffey casually strolling around through the lockerroom. "Why aren't you stretching with the rest of the team?" the reporter asked. "Does a Cheetah stretch before he runs?" was Griffey's reply.

Griffey was a fan favorite here in Seattle because of his play on the field, but if you spend more then 1 minute having a conversation with him off the field you'll find he is one of the most arrogant, self-involved, ungrateful prick playing the game today. Definitly in the company of Bonds for "I am a victim, or I have a huge chip on my shoulder award."

I never really had too much respect for Griffey other than that he was a great ballplayer. I'm one of few Mariners fans who doesn't have Alex though. He's a nice guy and one of few ballplayers in the league worthy of that contract. (I still think it's way too much money, but at least he's putting up good enough numbers to make a case for himself).

2002-07-22 08:27:58 PM
Um that should be "doesn't" hate, not "doesn't have".

Payrod
Awad
Johnson is the real deal
Griffey is $piffy

2002-07-22 08:46:20 PM
how can baseball players walk around in those girlie ballet uniforms and take themselves or expect anyone ELSE to take them or thier "sport" seriously?!

2002-07-22 09:00:18 PM
For an average of $2.3 million that baseball players make, I'd walk around naked with 'MilkIt' tattooed on my ass.

Wldncrzy, too bad the Rangers still can't win, even with his amazing output :(

I implore all baseball-hating farkers: please stop coming into the baseball threads and calling it names. If you don't like it, simply don't post about it (I don't go around posting about the things I hate).

Farkcom: Excellent point - the big difference between Bonds and Griffey, though, is that Bonds was able to go back to his hometown and prosper. Ever since Griffey returned to his roots in Cinci, he's been an unqualified bust. The most overpaid player in professional sports.

2002-07-22 10:01:11 PM
Biznatchc: It ain't gonna happen. This is fark. On the day the Splendid Splinter died, the freaks also came out. Sad, but true. At least they post real intelligently.

A-rod's stats are nice but they do not amount for much because of the Ranger's lack of pitching. Mr. Hicks, please get some real pitchers for this club. However, if there is a strike or lock-out forget it. You will be better off spending you money on the Stars.

Jr tonight in Reds loss to shiattsburgh:

AB: 3
R: 0
H: 2
RBI:1
SF: 1
BB: 1
0 runners left in scoring position, is it his fault they lost?

2002-07-23 01:18:08 AM
I must have seen a few dozen of his 400 and some homers live. I know, BFD.

He grew up idolizing Rickey Henderson. What else do you need to know about the guys attitude?

He never worked out on weights or anything until a year or two ago.
I wonder why his body is falling apart now, after 10 years of pounding on Kingdome concrete and not doing any conditioning?

Real puzzler, that is.

Tiger may not be QUITE "done" yet. Let see if he might win a few more tournaments. You might be suprised.

(sheesh)

2002-07-23 01:45:47 AM
Sittler: I'd say the most overpaid player is Mike Hampton. He gets paid $20 mil a year to put the Rockies in the shiatter.

GRIFFEY ALWAY RULES AND ALWAYS WILL.
SWEETEST SWING IN BASEBALL!!!
PEOPLE NEED TO STOP WHINING ABOUT GRIFFEY. IF YOU HAD HAMSTRING AND KNEE PROBLEMS LIKE HE HAS AT THE MOMENT YOU WOOULD NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF BED. THIS GUY IS MORE OF A TEAM PLAYER THAN YOU PEOPLE RELIZE. HE OFFERED TO DEFER MORE MONEY SO THE REDS CAN SIGN ANOTHER PITCHER. REDS DYNASTY IS BREWING. GOOOOOOO GRIFFEY!

Testicleus:

I agree. All fingers point to Ryan Dempster (for last night's loss). His stats since the Reds acquired him are:

0-3, 12.00 ERA, given up 20 hits and 16 runs in 12 innings.

Yet people still blame Junior for the Reds woes.
