Dumbasses.

Like the rocket scientists who were vandalizing the faux fur store.

2002-07-22 11:41:40 AM
The only semi-rational environmentalists is the Sierra Club...

These green peace farkers are idiots:
"The demonstrators included families with small children.
"

How smart is that?

2002-07-22 11:43:33 AM
The point was made though, wasn't it? If a bunch of do-gooders can cause a big problem, why couldn't a few fast boats with gunmen seize the ship or sink it?

2002-07-22 11:43:56 AM
Greenpeace is like PETA, but with more violence.

2002-07-22 11:43:57 AM
i would like very much to kick all greenpeace members 3 times in the groin.

2002-07-22 11:44:48 AM
Critics say they are concerned that the shipment is vulnerable to terrorist attack and could be used to make nuclear weapons - claims the Japanese government has denied.

Reactor fuel != weapons-grade nukes. Greenpeace knows this, but since when did they give a fark about facts??

2002-07-22 11:45:39 AM
Couldn't Greenpeace be classed as pirates, and therefore terrorists?

Maybe a tactical nuclear strike when the are in flotilla?

Nightsweat: Two armed cargo ships...

2002-07-22 11:46:28 AM
if they were really brave they would steal the uranium and hide it in their pants.

2002-07-22 11:47:30 AM
Nightsweat:

Envirowackos made the ships change course. That's hardly a big problem. If it had been armed terrorists, the_armed_ cargo ships would have fired back, or simply run them the fark over.

2002-07-22 11:47:56 AM
Hmmm. So two of them threw themselves in front of the cargo ships in a bid to stop them, eh?

Too bad they weren't run over. The propellors would have churned them up into a highly nutricious snack for the whales and dolphins they love so much.

2002-07-22 11:48:32 AM
Right, so big business moves tons of nuclear grade material in old rustbuckets, and you idiots blame the protestors who are trying to stop them.

The word morons springs readily to mind.

2002-07-22 11:48:54 AM
This is the same nuclear material that will stop us using fossil fuel and causing pollution, the same stuff they protest against ?

2002-07-22 11:49:01 AM
Those ships are in the same neighborhood where the British Warship got holed by a big rock. I hope they have sober captains. They have violated the area of six Pacific Nations that protested their passing.I'm sure they will avoid Australia and New Zealand because you don't want to piss off anyone that really matters.I bet if they were passing through your neighbohood you might enjoy that?

2002-07-22 11:49:24 AM
Note to the Captain: Next time you see Greenies, DON'T Swerve

2002-07-22 11:49:39 AM
I loved when the French sank the Rainbow Warrior about 8 or so years ago. that's the only think i the french have done that i liked...

2002-07-22 11:51:31 AM
Damnable Luddites!

2002-07-22 11:51:48 AM
Right, so big business moves tons of nuclear grade material in old rustbuckets, and you idiots blame the protestors who are trying to stop them

That's right, the time to prevent this was when the ships were being loaded, not right in the middle of the farking ocean - get a clue.

2002-07-22 11:52:10 AM
Yer goddamn right we blame the protestors.

What if something and happened and the Greenpeacers were culpable in causing a ship to be damaged so the whales they are out there to save get irradiated?

Irony is lost on bearded, seafaring vegetarians.

Or terrorists, whichever you prefer.

2002-07-22 11:52:28 AM
Hippiedave - While I can't speak for these cargo vessels, I do know what precautions the U.S. Navy takes on board it's ships that carry nukes.

They're stored inside a special metal container-room on board ship that is specifically designed to take 10,000(!) years to rust through should the ship sink. That way the radioactive materials will have decayed into harmless elements by the time they're finally exposed to the sea.

I would assume some sort of safety measure HAS to be taken by international law, though perhaps not as elaborate. Rest assured, should these have gone into the drink they would have been salvaged.

2002-07-22 11:52:50 AM
So you're saying that there's no way a small boat with, say, a few shoulder launched missiles could sink these boats? I think you're very very optimistic.

Look at what they did to the USS Cole with a speedboat filled with plastic explosives.

2002-07-22 11:53:22 AM
Yay!
Leave it to Harmonia to defend the indefensible.

Just because you don't like it, you don't risk dumping all the stuff into the sea.

2002-07-22 11:53:57 AM
and this armed nuclear material shipping vessel didnt fire on the greenpeace ass clown terrorists getting in their way of shipping very dangerous materials.....why?

2002-07-22 11:54:12 AM
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that not only do the flamers above not know anything about tankers or "maritime safety." But they also weren't there, and are only taking the word of a guy from the tanker.

I mean, comon. I don't know didley about greenpeace or the guys on the tanker, but you're assuming that they were all in speedboats, ramming a tanker, with their kids tied to the side of the hull as shields.

I really like that idea ... especially since they've tried to board ships in the past ...

2002-07-22 11:54:51 AM
I hate Greenpeace. I don't hate all of their beliefs, but I hate almost all of their tactics. What if that ship had hit a reef or something and sank whilst trying to avoid the protesters? Sometimes I swear protesters like that are trying to create a self fulfilling prophecy. Is it dangerous to ship nuclear materials across the ocean? Sure, but they are making much more dangerous than it needs to be.

2002-07-22 11:55:16 AM
The risk comes becasue it was there in the fisrt place idiots.

If I walk out of the house with a bomb and when the cops come to arrest me and I blow it up, whose fault is it?

2002-07-22 11:55:22 AM
07-22-02 11:49:01 AM Hippiedave

Well, we'll all be able to enjoy that from nuclear waste from almost 48 states being shipped to Yucca Mountain, Nevada.

2002-07-22 11:55:43 AM
Nightsweat - I don't think they'd try to sink them, but rather to capture the material to use as a weapon.

though not weapon grade, it's still highly radioactive and could do some serious contamination if placed in a normal explosive device.

They wouldn't bother sinking the ships since few people would die, and not many people (read - those not near the sinking) would care.

Besides, there are plenty of other places worldwide with worse security where they could try and pinch the stuff.

2002-07-22 11:56:29 AM
Sarcasmo -
nobody's assuming anything. They chased the boat, then dived into the water after it.
They admit that.

2002-07-22 11:56:29 AM
So, one group of greenpeace protestors are protesting coal energy production, wanting them to use cleaner alternitive energy sourses (Nuclear) while another group of greenpeace protesters protest nuclear use in energy production. I guess they want them to use coal.

Get a life!

2002-07-22 11:56:37 AM
I'm thinking those Greenpeace boats would make excellent target practice; instead of dropping practice bombs through houses in west Texas they should use live ordinance on these assheads.

2002-07-22 11:56:39 AM
Nightsweat has convinced me, those guys should have shot the shiat out of those greenpeace boats just to be safe...

; )

2002-07-22 11:56:43 AM
There are ways of protesting that are effective. This is apparently not. All this does for Greenpeace is make them look even more stupid and fanatic than before. Besides, the way to truly get rid of this nuclear waste is:

1. Go back in time and stop scientists from discovering it (LoL that would never happen).
2. Blast the stuff into space, preferably into the sun.

Why in the fark are these asshats wasting their time?

I think it's possible.

2002-07-22 11:57:12 AM
Time to treat those greenpeace asshats like the criminals they are. They are simply terrorists with a non-religious agenda.
I love these environmentalist who resort to violence (ramming boats, spiking trees).

2002-07-22 11:57:22 AM
Protesting is one thing, acting like idiots on the water is another. Remember when they "accidentally" rammed the French America's Cup yacht in May?

2002-07-22 11:57:43 AM
Personally, I'd call thinking there's a great possibility of people in boats with RPG's, waiting to attack ships like these, very pessimistic.
Besides, when was the last time there was an outside terrorist attack on either Britan or Japan?

2002-07-22 11:58:11 AM
Harmonia -

it's thinking liek that 9someone did something wrong before so we're justified in any reaction we choose) that got your buddy shot last summer. Wise up.

If I walk out of the house with a bomb and when the cops come to arrest me and I blow it up, whose fault is it?

As long as you die in the blast, who cares?

2002-07-22 11:58:28 AM
Kerouac, a small inflatable raft chased the tankers, not a yacht full of children.

2002-07-22 11:58:46 AM
Don't remember all the facts, so this story is more anecdotal than anything:

20 or so years ago, Greenpeace was in an Alaskan Town protesting sealing. They ended up banning all but the slightest amount of Sealing (Killing of seals for fur/blubber/etc).

Problem was, the towns entire economy was based on Sealing. Within 2 years, the teen suicide rate had reached 50%.

Way to go GreenPeace.

Yours, for carrying a bomb on you in the first place.

As it does after every Harmonia post no matter the subject.

Ooh! I know, I know! Wait. No I don't. Carol Channing? No wait, Gallagher! It's always his fault.

Here's a few pictures of the two boats in question:

At dock in Ramsden

The "armed" part of the ships.

Heading down Walney Channel.

Night attack could take these things out or capture them.

Why aren't they getting a destroyer escort at least? This seems like far too light security for these days.

2002-07-22 12:01:26 PM
I feel ANYONE approaching dangerous material like this should be treated as a SEVER THREAT and dealt with accordingly.

After all, terrorists aren't stupid. If Greenpeace turns this into a habit of getting close to or trying to board these ships, who's to say that some enterprising terror group won't give it a shot disguised as Greenpeace peaceniks? Sound too much like a Clancy novel? So did airplanes and skyscrapers less than a year ago.

If anyone comes close to material this dangerous give them one warning shot then sink their ass. So they have their families on board? Then they'll be the ones responsible for not only their own but their kid's deaths.

2002-07-22 12:01:41 PM
Ramming a tanker in an inflatable raft makes them terrorists, and they killed teenagers by ruining their town economy and forcing them to commit suicide. OMFG, you guys are helarious.

2002-07-22 12:02:04 PM
p.s. - Harmonia -

obviously, if you walk outside with a bomb, and it's ap olice action that causes you to detonate it, they are to blame.

Dumbass. I like Bbq-breath's answer.

SARCASMO - sorry - misread your comment. Thought you were coming at it from the other side.
