I like Paul Mooney's comment best:

"He's my Dr. Phil," the black comedian said. "He's cured me."

He's had a long history with the n-word, that's for sure.

2006-11-27 06:12:57 PM
Someone needs to remind Jesse Jackson that censorship sucks.

Solid State Vittles: He's had a long history with the n-word, that's for sure.

Paul Mooney is a uppity negro

/o&a owned him during a interview about this

2006-11-27 06:17:56 PM
But he also added that you are still able to cheat on your wife and sleep with the white wimmins.

2006-11-27 06:26:07 PM
Well, white folks have pretty much done their part in turning it into an unspeakable "n word."

How's the black entertainment industry doing with that?

2006-11-27 06:32:22 PM
Good luck with that. I'm sure the Ying Yang Twins and 50 Cent will get right on that.

Asked about free-speech issues, Jackson said the word is "unprotected."

I'm sorry, but that's bullsh*t.

Yes, but there's a difference between a NUBIAN and an ATTRACTIVE AND SUCCESSFUL AFRICAN-AMERICAN

Action Replay Nick: I'm sorry, but that's bullsh*t.

Yep.

I hope that by "entertainment" he means "rap music".

Aside from your random, washed-up comedian, I can't remember the last time I heard a white person say the "N" word either in a movie, on an album, or on TV.

In other news, Chris Rock to get new HBO special, details are it's going to be a 2hr special, 90 minutes of white people jokes and 30 minutes of being redundant

2006-11-27 07:19:44 PM
And by this he of course means any white person in the entertainment industry.

Where's that 'unlikely' tag?

When the black community has enough respect for itself to not call each other attractive and successful African-American I'll get behind Jesse one-hundred percent. Until then, meh.

/50 years ago a comment like this would have me hung upside down in a tree with a fork in my ass

2006-11-27 09:07:42 PM
Only if the black community does the same.

2006-11-27 09:08:27 PM
Might be interesting.

Words evoke images, often the same image, no matter who speaks it. Even with only blacks using it (acceptably), it still conjures up the images of oppression and aggressive racism, and keeps the meme alive.

I think it's time to bury it.

How can we all forget the classic line from 'PULP FICTION' ... "Do you see a sign in my front yard that says dead nig#er storage?" That's a great line!! What would the movie be without that one catch phrase?

He should try advocating that message on the basketball courts and in the street first. But Using the N-Word helps the ignorant keep it 'gangsta' which is good because ALL PEOPLE like to identify these morons and keep them from being an functional part of society.

If ebonics is the only form of english you know, I hope you make it big in the music industry, because you'll never be able to find a decent job in corporate america, know what I'm sayin', Ya Heard?

PULP FICTION

For those of you saying "b-b-but black people use it," read the article. He is calling for an end to the use of the word by EVERYONE.

Nice idea, but I don't think it will happen.

If it were a bunch of white, Christian conservatives who had a press conference to tell people not to say something the Hollywood crowd would be up in arms. Let's see how they respond to this. I assume there will be mostly approval or silence.

2006-11-27 09:14:18 PM
The way I see it: Keeping the horrible ethnic and racial slur words we have eliminates the necessity to invent new ones.

Dirty chotch.

/Banning speech != ending racism
//If either is even possible

2006-11-27 09:14:31 PM
Bill Cosby said the same thing, the black community called shunned him???

\Is not impressed.

"I said, do you see a sign on my front yard that says dead nig#er storage?" "This is no fu#kin sign cause storing dead nig#ers aint my business!" ...or something like that.

2006-11-27 09:16:51 PM
I know he's not talking to white people because if we say it we're worse than Hitler.

Teh gheys had the right idea by using "queer" and "f**" so commonly as to take away the power of the words. It didn't really help, we just call them other things but they had the right idea. The more power you give a word, the more it can be used to offend you.

In other word, man up and sound off like you got a pair.

Does American have legislation or legal precedents regarding hate speech? If so, you'd think a word with such obvious racist, derogatory, and intentionally harmful (all depending on context, of course) overtones would fall into that category...

The entire "black community"?

This ain't the only double standard.
Any minority, or women for that matter, can have their own exclusive clubs, organizations, or other groups that specifically exclude outsiders... Any minority group, or women, can make jokes all day about white people or males... Try that as a white person, or as a male.

That said, the N-word should be retired by everyone.
For me, it has long been retired forcibly: I ain't black, so I can't say it. (And I don't want to, but still)...
For those who can currently say it, it's time to stop saying it.

Jesse Jackson is not asking anything of white entertainers that he is not also asking of black entertainers. RTFA.

I don't see what is wrong with this request.

Is it going to happen? No way.

I'm do my part, though. I only use the word in a negative context.

Raw McKuen

How's the black entertainment industry doing with that?

Hey, look!! It's the first sentence in the TFA! I wonder what it has to say about that question? What's that, first sentence? What did you say?

Black leaders challenged the entertainment industry, including rap artists, actors and major studios, to stop the use of the racial slur that triggered the scandal involving "Seinfeld" comic actor Michael Richards.

Oh, I see.

2006-11-27 09:19:27 PM
Words only have power if you let them.

// BTW are white people ever really offended by the term Cracker?

If he were here today he would be even more pissed-off that usual.

Still, Paul Mooney swearing off the "F" word is like the late Dr. Thompson declaring a personal ban on drugs and alcohol.

but it's still okay to use jungle bunny, right?

spear chucker?

spook?

midnight?

Rastis?

James?

Didn't everyone try to do this in the 70's after Richard Pryor visited Africa then came home and talked about how he wasn't going to use that word anymore?

/saw it on some vh1 special or something.

2006-11-27 09:20:54 PM
Are you kidding me? I think black entertainers use the N-word more than anyone else combined times infinity.
