There's an article in the current Newsweek about what happens when autistic kids grow up...apparently it's kind of like living through the kid's toddler stage forever. Those parents have my utmost sympathy and admiration.

I hope if science can't find a cure, they can at least pinpoint a cause soon. I think it must be due to chemical exposure, either the father, mother or both, possibly even prior to conception - maybe along with a genetic predisposition, who knows.

Look where the highest rates are, and you will where certain pollutants are being looked into as responsible. To lazy to look it up, you dont have to beleive me, but from what I read, it is related to chemicals and other exposures. One beleif was that an ingredient in vaccines contained mercury and that caused many cases. It was taken out, but now is allowed back in.

This one is much better then my crappy version about mourners sitting in the corner and rocking themselves while crying. +1 for succeeding where I failed.

Arjibuh

There are many possible causes, mercury or heavy metal exposure being just one. Genetics are another possible cause. A third is the change in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) guidelines under which autism is diagnosed. While autism has become "autism spectrum disorder" with an increase in diagnoses, the number of diagnoses of "childhood schizophrenia" has gone way down. We haven't cured the latter; we reclassified it.

No decent study on the vaccine issue has conclusively pointed to a problem there, unfortunately. I'd really like a simple answer to this.

Ah. I guess that stating that a post is your first one gets filtered to "Boobies". Would've been nice if the farking previewer had showed me that.

Oh well...
