Combat!

1977, baby.

2006-11-25 01:00:02 AM
Oh man, Jordan Vs. Bird.

Good times.

2006-11-25 01:03:48 AM
Excellent! I've tried to go back to games I once loved, but found them to be very dull and simple now.

/C=64 was the best game machine evar.

2006-11-25 01:05:55 AM
Awesome game, Spacemarinekilla. I remember Dr. J vs. Bird as the original awesomness.

2006-11-25 01:06:13 AM
What? No Odyssey 2? I had the voice thingie and everything.

/Coveted my friends Atari.

2006-11-25 01:07:15 AM
Graphics and sound have improved massively, but not necessarily the gameplay.

2006-11-25 01:07:22 AM
Pong!

2006-11-25 01:09:44 AM
Sharkface217 Pong!

Too funny, I still have my pong, I lost the AC adapter though and it takes about 417 D batteries to make it work.

2006-11-25 01:10:16 AM
Why is the score in Pong always 13-7?

2006-11-25 01:18:58 AM
to much of the new stuff was prerendered cutscenes. show the actual game play dumb dumbs.

2006-11-25 01:20:14 AM
Evolution of FPS? I remember one or two games between the original Quake and HL2. I don't think there was a clean jump from one to the next.

2006-11-25 01:36:17 AM
Sure it was Yami, no other games were made. everyone knows that.

/whats that? you have something else? can i play?

2006-11-25 01:43:49 AM
And he completely leftout the most obvious evolution of multiplayer rpgs. From dial up text MUDs to Ultima Online to WoW and whatever kids are playing these days.

2006-11-25 01:49:52 AM
I didn't see any Duke Nukem: Forever in there, though..

2006-11-25 01:52:53 AM
Sadly many of us have probably played over 90% of those games.

Some gaps definately.

The one Between Quake and HL2 in my eye would of been the unreal games, and of course Daikatana.

The Toad engine was the precursor to the Hive and the Orcs from LOTR.

I know a bunch of "kids" are still playing this MUD...

No Zelda? i call shenanigans

2006-11-25 02:18:48 AM
should have done the fps with shotguns, almost every game has its shotgun

cmon

What was that last game with the guy picking up the 4-wheeler?

2006-11-25 02:55:23 AM
Malarkey: Graphics and sound have improved massively, but not necessarily the gameplay.

I dunno about that. Each new generation of consoles and the increased computing power they bring allows developers to create new genres of games that weren't previously possible.

Drummer: What was that last game with the guy picking up the 4-wheeler?

I think it might be MotorStorm for the PS3. I played a demo at Target. Meh.

What was the last FPS shown?

Videogames did not "evolve." They were created by god in their present form 6000 years ago.

tyguy101aa: to(sic) much of the new stuff was prerendered cutscenes. show the actual game play dumb dumbs.

I agree. It bugs me when commercials show kids 'playing' the intro.

I think the worst offender was the unreleased Diablo II commercial.

2006-11-25 04:02:12 AM
patricula

What's just as bad is the commercials that show kids holding Xbox controllers and it making Galaga noises...

2006-11-25 04:23:48 AM
the last fps is lost planet (I think) but I'm not sure.

2006-11-25 07:32:05 AM
Wow. I have played all of those C-64 games shown. Actually one of my fave C-64 games was the American Football one with three players on each side. Simple and a lot of fun.

American Football games show an interesting path of development. I still prefer the Megadrive (Genesis) Madden games to the new ones (same with NHL games).

2006-11-25 07:42:50 AM
No RPG evolution? That's BS!

2006-11-25 08:54:41 AM
Should have had Evolution of Zelda...

(NES) The Legend of Zelda
(NES) Zelda: Adventure of Link
(SNES) Zelda: A Link to the Past
(N64) Zelda: Ocarina of Time
(N64) Zelda: Majora's Mask
(Wii) Zelda: Twilight Princess

OK heres my opinion, those old atari and nin games had great playability. Notice whenever they showed the newest game they never really showed the clips from the perspective you actaully play the game from? Isnt that how you judge the game?

If you show me a close up of a guy with sweat dripping off his face thats great, but thats NOT THE GAME. Its like showing madden from the extreme closeups. It looks real, yea SO WHAT? You DONT PLAY THE GAME FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE, so its bs. You know what Im saying?

most of the 'latest gen' games were ps3 titles. They also showed nothing but pre-rendered fmv for the ps3 games, no actual footage at all. (not that ps3 isn't great, graphicly, but it still would have been nice to see it for real)

2006-11-25 10:28:39 AM
Masters of Teras Kasi is the opposite of evolution.
/rented it as a kid
//the beginning of disappointments to come

BlueGargoyle: Videogames did not "evolve." They were created by god in their present form 6000 years ago.

Why did I know some dumb fark would go there? It's like little kids screaming for attention.

What was the last FPS shown?

Killzone 2 for PS3.

Do Bevets or Skinnyhead play videogames?

Grow a sense of humor.

If you'll notice, every one of the "most evolved" games was a PS3 game.
Aren't there PC games that are more impressive by now?

2006-11-25 01:29:50 PM
Wheres the video game creationists at?

Video games were intelligently designed.

Uh, I guess you haven't played Fight Night for the 360 (Or ps3) have you?

That IS what the actual game looks like. There is no HUD, only the boxers and you can see the sweat and shiat dripping on their face.

I agree, however, that the clips they did show that were from cutscenes shouldn't have gotten in.

Agreed. We constantly get improvements in gameplay as games evolve. Hardware isn't only for shiny graphics. You simply couldn't have played a game like Katamari for the NES or Halo 2 for a 1990 computer or what not. technical advances allow for advances in gameplay.

I disagree. GAMEPLAY does not rely on hardware. GRAPHICS does.

See M.U.L.E.
See Flash Katamari
See ZORK.

2006-11-25 02:47:41 PM
Using cut scenes was the lame. They could have shown the evolution of RPGs and MMOs as well, but whatever.

The_Time_Master

...

See Flash Katamari

1) The gameplay of Flash Katamari is like a bad cross between Frogger and Pac-Man, and is not nearly as fun as Katamari Damacy.

2) I'm willing to bet that it wouldn't run on a computer as weak as the NES, or even SNES.

2006-11-25 03:33:31 PM
Yeah, the Fight Night Boxing does look look that good, but plays like shiat

Punch Out > All other boxing games

2006-11-25 03:38:21 PM
What was that LAST GAME?

2006-11-25 03:43:29 PM
Wolfenstein 3-d baby, now THAT is where it's at! I still load it up on my computer to play simply because it's still fun.

Of course, people don't freak out as much knowing that I play it now. They always made a big deal out of me playing it when I was eight, and I don't know why.

/yeah, I have Civ 1 on a 4.5 floppy too

2006-11-25 04:35:58 PM
No Duck Hunt? laaaame.

2006-11-25 05:52:36 PM
ummm, the last FPS shown was killzone which was a prerendered video. FPS are still not at that level.
