If the insurgents are coming from Iran and Syria, why don't we nuke Iran and Syria?

Because more than 95% of the insurgents come from Iraq?

Game over, man! Game over!

That would be something, wouldn't it?

Take Saddam out of power because he was a brutal dictator who ruled with an iron fist, and re-establish order by.......being a brutal dictator who rules with an iron fist.

I've gotten the impression over the last few years that Saddam was an asshole...for a good reason.

Love the new persona, man. Glad to see you haven't let the Democrat's sweep-- especially in Wisconsin-- drive you away. Nice to see you madly backpedaling and retconning your previous positions. Shows class and integrity.

Saddam and Saddam alon eis to blame for all this. His actions and inactions are responsible and he should be held accountable. Oh wait...he's in prison awaiting execution.

Yeah, I love how he just happened to be sentenced to death the day before the mid term election!
No coincidence there!

/Rove probably got a chubby thinking of this ploy!

Forcing the implementation of US dollar as the World Reserve Currency and standard oil trading platform.

Well done. Top marks. If it weren't for the dollar being the currency with which the world buys and sells oil the US economy would be absolutely screwed. US foreign policy since the 1970s has been directed at 1) keeping the oil flowing 2) threatening anyone who is thinking of switching to another reserve currency. The US economy gets a free ride as their is a constant demand for dollars. It's like the US wins the lottery every year and without it the US would revert to something not far off dustbowl backwater status. After all, what do we manufacture anymore? Just weapons, mainly. No more trillion-dollar defense budgets and no-one fears or respects us anymore. It is absolutely central to US interests and yet very few people are aware of it. If Venezuela or Iran switches to Euros then they will be bombed off the face of the Earth as an example to others. It's basically a giant protection racket.

That's been really effective in Palestine hasn't it? You're dealing with a culture and period you clearly don't understand.

Chris Kattan please! If there's someone who doesn't understand anything at Fark it would be you. Go move to one of those wonderful communist nations you adore.

This is a historical moment you're witnessing now.

The United States has jumped the shark as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

We've proven our impotence in foreign affairs. As all this unfolds, China and India are already jockeying for position in Asia. Germany and Japan are starting to ramp up their militaries to defend themselves. America will just have to settle for the Monroe doctrine.

It was a nice run, but it's over folks.

I saw a news report this morning that said that at a house democrat is wanting to bring back the draft. The sad thing is that we're going to need a draft.

We don't have the troops needed to win, and a conflict with Iran and/or North Korea is a real possibility. We're going to need more troops. Cut and running from Iraq and Afghanistan might actually be one of the worse things we can do (actually the first was going into Iraq. I have no problems with Afghanistan, but that's where it should have stopped).

What we should be doing is training the new Iraqi military and police, handing control of Iraq to it's elected government and start phasing out our troops. There election was how long ago??? They should be running things over there, not us.

Sounds good to me. Leave Eurasia and Africa to figure out their own goddam problems. Anyone messing with the Americas gets the glass parking lot treatment. Maybe we can get Australia to join the new American alliance as well.

This is a good idea. Stop doing all this business with China and move America's factories and manufacturing, which are the real jobs that pay middle class families, back to America. Worry about our own backyard, and stop screwing with third world countries. It's a waste of money, it's a waste of lives.

"Messing with" is such a fine distinction. Do we still "glass parking lot" (why a parking lot?) people who just kind of diss us a little bit? What about countries that are full fronting?

Maybe to support your beautifully nuanced foreign policy, we should erect gigantic, mile-high signs on our borders saying "Don't Mess With Us!" and a picture of Yosemite Sam, but instead of six-guns he's holding nukes and strangling foreigners.

After all, before WWII America was a pooh-butt backwoods democracy. 19th largest army in the world. I don't see why we have to be on top to be successful. Let China and India worry about drawing all the ire of third world countries who don't have anything.

no, that's just Charlie Rangel again- he has been "proposing" a draft for a few years now. He doesn't actually WANT one, really; he just is pushing the "proposal" as a way to create further opposition to the war effort (by the way he has actually admitted this, it's not my spin).

It was a clever gimmick a couple of years ago. Now that support for the war is as low as it seems it could possibly go, I don't know what purpose this "proposal" serves.

We are not going to "need" a draft for what there is left for the US to do in Iraq.

The difference between capitalism and communism is that capitalism is pro-slavery and pro- people starving in the streets. Communism, when implemented in the fashion it was designed, is about democratic ownership and social justice.

Ah.

There's nothing inherently wrong with communism. It's just hard to pull off because humans are inherently greedy.

Native Americans were fairly communistic.

It took the Europeans to introduce to them the concept of private ownership.

The alternative to 'cut-and-run' is 'be-overrun'.
We don't have the will to send more troops. So we'll draw down, and that'll just prolong the inevitable and embarassing Ode to Saigon.

I believe it's safe to say that when the stakes are this high, good intentions mean exactly zero. What kind of moron would justify excusing Bush for the stupidest invasion is history on 'he meant well'?

Because invading and attempting to grab ONLY the Bad Guys is better than pounding a country to glass...

When it comes to Iran, it WILL get pounded to glass... to other option os going to work.

I still say the way to solve this is to open up a ton of bars.

Give these guys an outlet to go and forget about their problems, and ensure that if they are so plastered that even if they want to go get into their truck and bomb someone after the bar closes, they'll get about 20 feet before running into a ditch or something.

I mean think about it. When I am pissed off I have lots of outlets for it. But at the end of a bad day, I know I can always go home, sit down on the couch, and crack open a nice cold beer.

From the Labrador Sea to cape Horn. Yes, that would do nicely. But instead of strangling foreigners, we could just have a mushroom cloud in the background.

My original point being:

Communism can exist and can be stable. It just needs the right mentality and conditions.

And it doesn't have to be atheistic/totalitarian.

It's perfectly legit to have a democratic republic communistic state of theists, since they are all seperate attributes on a basic level.

Yes, it will. Wait until the Islamists get a nuke into a major Western city and kill 100,000 at one shot. Then we'll see how pacifist you guys are...

My problem with Bush has ALWAYS been pretending Muslims could accept ideas like 'tolerance' and 'democracy...'

WHAT... A... JOKE...

Oh, how I miss Reagan.
