you'd be surprised; A&Ws are all over the farking middle east. that and Johnny Rockets. There's practically one on every street corner.

I've been to that A+W before. When it's farking a million degrees out, an ice cream soda with a splash of explosion tastes mighty good.

there's a lot of western franchises in indonesia.

the tony roma's in jakarta is the first and only tony roma's i've ever eaten in, oddly enough. customers are mainly westerners and other non-indonesians, obviously, what with the pork and all.

There's A&W all over Asia, and they are head and shoulders above any of the ones stateside! Both A&W and KFC in Japan offer not only the standard fare they're known for in the states ( and served by by people who actually care that you enjoy the visit), they also have regional fare. I had a salmon sandwich in an Okinawa KFC that was great. For some reason the Dunkin Donuts taste way better in Thailand, too.

They love us for the convenience store. I think thailand would lose its mind without their 7/11s.

Sometimes when you want to get something done right, you just gotta do it yourself.

Agreed. What I always find amusing is the Starbucks that serve the spiced coffee, with the Muslim men and women segregated in their own seating areas. The men had like La-Z-Boys and couches and shiat to sit on; the women had hard-bottom chairs.

I've seen more A&W restaurants in Indonesia than in the US. I miss them a lot.

KFC in Indonesia kicks ass - fried chicken goes surprisingly great with sticky Asian rice.

I'm always quite amused at American restaurants in foreign countries. Here's a Krispy Kreme I saw in Hong Kong 2 weeks ago!

When you go to some McDonalds in thailand, they punch a clock when you order. If you don't have your order in 45 seconds they give you fries for free, or somesuch.

All I could think about was how the asians understand the fast food concept and its proper execution. Here in the country of its birth, its execution isn't much of an art anymore.

/the fast food concept being that you don't have to wait three to five minutes fgorod frabbing O*&G*&*
//i hate my ghetto mcdonalds, they were serving soft drinks outta 3 liter bottles today, i kid you not.

Holy crap, is that street named for Lord Elgin? Ughhh. Most fast food places in other countries are head and shoulders above their US counterparts. Most McDonalds in other countries actually cook your food when you order it (making it slightly less fast but much better) and at least attempt regional flavours.

Rant on suicide bombers...

Can't these idiots think of better ways to further their cause? If I had fanatical troops willing to literally die for their beliefs I would rule the world.

Anyways, dude is an idiot. Fark him.

We used to have an A&W here but it closed. Probably because the food sucked so bad. But the Root Beer on tap was heavenly....

What an idiot. I hope they have that guy pinned down in a cell and are interrogating the fark out of him. It's not often you get to question a suicide bomber.

when i went to saudi arabia i expected to see only things like adobe houses and camels and such...and i'm not that big on stereotyping since i had travelled and seen some sites prior to that...but then one afternoon i went with some friends into riyahd for my first time and WOW!!!! there were more modern western conveniences than in this city of texarkana! dunkin donuts, mcdonalds, baskin robbins, subway, bk, malls, all kinds of stuff!
mcdonalds in germany had a sammich once in a while that was called "mckropolis", that had a feta cheese sauce on a pork patty and such...YUUMMMMM!!!!! and they had the mcrib year round.
mcdonalds in amsterdam has chicken wings.

Erm... you might want to take a look at a world map sometime.

Just a suggestion.

/Yes, the world's most populous Islamic democracy is, in fact, in Southeast Asia
//North of Australia, south of Thailand and Cambodia

COMSLAVE No shiat. They dissapeared from Ohio in my youth. Only seen one or so since. Fond memories.

As anti-corporate food as I am though, after a hard months travel in Vietnam, was suprised, weirded out and pleased to find a Baskin Robbins in Ho Chi Minh City.

/Still refused to hit a Macdonalds weeks later in the Phillippines.

There's an A&W in Jakarta? Farking ASS. Our 2 A&W locations in the Silicon Valley turned into 1)yet another farking burrito joint. You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a mexican joint. 2)A place called "American Favorite Diner." Some asians own it. They're nice folks, but the food is just disgusting.

Last time I was in Vegas, I ate at that A&T in the Riviera like 5 times. Loved it.

I ate at a Wimpy's in Abu Dhabi, UAE a few years back. Quite possibly the last one left in the world??

- Wimpy's is a fast food place named after the Popeye character Wimpy who had a thing for burgers.

A&W/KFC has saturated SE Asia. The first A&W in Malaysia was there in the 60's according to my father-in-law.
