Here, everybody:
This should help
2006-11-10 09:23:15 PM
Anybody remember his Tonight Show appearance in 87 or 88 when he called Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone (his co-stars in _Tango and Cash_) "shhht-heads"? I believe he was drunk.

/not that there's anything wrong with that.
2006-11-10 09:25:06 PM
I'm telling you, the trifecta is Rip Torn. Give me odds.
2006-11-10 09:32:31 PM
Not for nuthin, but i can still remember seeing this dude bang out a whooooole lot of 1 armed push ups at the academ awards. That, and being a total BADASS in any and every sense of the word. He put most 20-somethings to shame in the "hey look how big and tough I am" department well into his 70's. Have a good trip, bah-rutha!!! Show 'em who's boss!!
2006-11-10 09:39:32 PM
That is a damn shame.

Hey Jack...
2006-11-10 10:16:16 PM
Jack Palance. Archetypal character when you needed a tough-as-nails surly codger.

I always loved him on Ripley's Believe It Or Not, too. Especially how he would wrap things up with *dramatic intake of breath* "Believe Ittt..." *long hissssss* "Or Nottt..." *exhale*.

As he said in one of of his best lines, from one his less noteable films, "If you want to dine with the devil, you're gonna need a loooooong spoon!"

RIP Big Guy.
2006-11-10 10:26:51 PM
Shane is still coming back though right?
2006-11-10 10:29:57 PM
If Gerald Levert really were dead he'd have a thread on Fark...

//I know he is dead. 40 is young
//when I first heard I thought the radio station messed up and meant his father
2006-11-10 10:30:45 PM
He's not dead. He's just hiding on Chuck Norris' private island so nobody finds out he's immortal like Elvis and Jimmy Hendrixxx.
/Best... pause... acting... ever...
//Sorry Bill.
2006-11-10 10:32:43 PM
Is he dead again?

//He was always awesome Panic in the Streets and his Dracula were faves.
///Ripley's was swell, as has been mentioned -- the best phrasing post-Welles and pre-Walken.
2006-11-10 10:35:08 PM
Peacefully rest, Bronk.
2006-11-10 10:42:24 PM
I dont believe it ... or Not.

He was great in Shane.

Met him once.

They auctioned off a bunch of stuff of his only last month here in Pennsylvania. I thought it was strange to let so much stuff go all at once. Maybe he saw it coming?

From WNEP:

Actor Jack Palance, a native of Luzerne County, has died today at his home in California, according to the Associated Press.

Palance is best known for his modern movie role in City Slickers and won an Academy Award in 1992.

His career has spanned a half-century in film and television.

Palance had been living in California but last month he put his farm house near Drums and its contents up for sale. Thousands of items were auction off and more than $700,000 was raised.

Jack Palance was 87 years old.

That was Kurt Russell, not Mel Gibson. I remember that show though. I always put Jack Palance in the same group as Lee Marvin, James Coburn, Clint Eastwood, and Chuck Conners. Great go-to tough guys.
2006-11-10 11:06:11 PM
I submitted this with a more unbelievable headline.
2006-11-10 11:06:49 PM
pwhp_67: Pick up the gun...

I don't want any trouble, mister.
2006-11-10 11:09:01 PM
You're... all... my... number one...guuuuuysssss....

2006-11-10 11:25:56 PM
Probably a lot of people already checked out his Wiki bio but if not here it is. A fine actor and a WW2 veteran. Sound like he busted his ass all his life. Ukraine's been good to the US, lot of good folks of Ukrainian ancestry here. Condolences to his family.
2006-11-10 11:27:00 PM
Jack Palance was definately a cool muthafarka.
2006-11-10 11:46:38 PM
so i was searching dead pool clubs, and nobody had him

those guys are pretty sharp

believe it or not
2006-11-11 12:24:05 AM
Yup, one place I wish I was last month was at the auction at his farm in Pennsylvania. A look at the auction website made it look like King Tut's estate. The textbook pack rat, he was. Bought the entire contents of some old Ukrainian church, down to the pews and windows, and it all went to auction. Like they knew he was going to check out soon.

Wow...I remember as a kid watching him every week on "Ripley's Belive It or Not" His voice and his manner just lent something to the show. Of course, I've seen a good amount of his work done before and since.

To be perfectly honest, I thought he had kicked it a few years ago. I have to feel bad about it all over again.

Ah well, godspeed, Mr. Palance. I'm sure they won't know what to do with you either way you go.
2006-11-11 02:10:43 AM
dagooch: so i was searching dead pool clubs, and nobody had him

those guys are pretty sharp

Looks like they thought he had died already, too :D

My aunt Nancy went to the prom with Jack back in the day. My mother just got done telling me that she met him once when she was 6-7 while living in Hazelton PA while shopping in the Laurel mall. He came back a lot during that time.
2006-11-11 04:19:32 AM
RIP Mr. Palance.
2006-11-11 04:40:02 AM
See you later Jack, rest well

Even if you smell of creosote. First thing I thought of.

Rest In Peace, Tough Guy...

/was it the one-handed push ups?
2006-11-11 05:53:58 AM
No one has mentioned "Bronk"

Awful show.
2006-11-11 06:31:44 AM
this man was the primary character inspiration behind Duke Nukem's development in 3D
2006-11-11 06:44:31 AM
"I crapped bigger than you!"

That's my favorite quote of his. :)

2006-11-11 08:26:27 AM

I came in here to post that same Kaleel picture. Jack Palance was the greatest televangelist faith-healer ever!
2006-11-11 09:43:07 AM
I could swear he died once before and maybe he will again RIP for now big guy.
2006-11-11 10:41:31 AM
RIP Jack. Now who's going to do one armed pushups at the Oscars?
2006-11-11 11:32:44 AM
Don't worry, his brother Duke will replace him.
2006-11-11 12:25:06 PM
Fare thee well, thou scary bastard.

If you arm wrestle John Wayne up there, be nice and put it on Youtube, 'k?

2006-11-11 12:30:16 PM
LoHung_Dong: Don't worry, his brother Duke will replace him.

R.I.P. you crazy bastard.
2006-11-11 04:56:42 PM
Damn, he was great on Ripley's. Scared the shiat out of me as a kid. Please, though...stop with the "death comes in threes" business. People die constantly, and you never have to wait long for 1 more quasi-famous person to die after 2 happen to die in a day or two. That doesn't mean it comes in threes, it means you break them down into groups of three. I enjoy a good fark trifecta as much as the next guy, but anyone who actually believes that death comes in threes should try out for the role of number three.
2006-11-11 06:14:48 PM
LiTeSp3eD: Please, though...stop

Nobody likes a buzzkill. Let the ignorant have their superstitions. Besides, this is Fark.

My friend's first words on hearing the news?
"Damn, I didn't have him in my dead pool. Believe it or not!"
2006-11-14 01:03:54 AM
My pop was his commercial agent years ago, and he was a friend of the family. Nice guy. This sucks.
