(BBC)   Much as you really, really wanted Daniel Craig to suck as James Bond, and you sweated the hate out of your pores at some points, he doesn't suck in the role   (news.bbc.co.uk) divider line 127

Anyone who watched "Layer Cake" knew he was gonna be a kickass Bond.

Two reviews? That's what we're basing this on?

Brandon Routh got two good reviews as Superman and he bit the big one as predicted.

2006-11-05 11:13:04 PM
I don't understand the massive hate everyone has for Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Who cares if he isn't Pierce Brosnan. I thought this movie was supposed to be closer to the actual books.

2006-11-05 11:13:35 PM
I was basing this whole thing on the Michael Keaton/Batman thing.
People said he'd suck and he was fantastic.

2006-11-05 11:14:26 PM
Who wanted him to suck? Hell, I've been waiting for a decent Bond since Connery dropped the role.

2006-11-05 11:25:18 PM
I liked the effeminate Bonds. They confirmed all my suspicions about English guys who wear tuxedos.

robsul82: Brandon Routh got two good reviews as Superman and he bit the big one as predicted.

suck it. i thought Routh was fine.

and I was hoping Craig would do well also, and judging from the commercials at least, he's done all right.

2006-11-05 11:41:37 PM
No, I say YOU suck MINE, sir. Routh looked like a 12-year-old in the suit and sounded oddly like Tom Cruise whenever he did his Superman Voice. He sucked.

And don't judge things by TV spots. Going by TV spots, Syriana was interesting.

2006-11-05 11:43:13 PM
bikerdiva - I agree. I never really understood
the "wimpy" label. None of the james bonds have been
Arnold...and they're not supposed to be.

Quoted for truth.

/looking forward to the new Bond
//also happy that Quentar had nothing to do with it.

Ooooh, Michael Keaton was totally hot as Batman.

2006-11-06 01:00:16 AM
I liked Routh and Syriana.
Am I in some distinguished minority I never knew about?

Syriana was interesting. I loved it. I'll probably be seeing the new bond movie, as well.

he seems right for the role. i'm a connery diehard and i don't see what everyone is whining about.

2006-11-06 01:02:49 AM
They switched his car to auto because he can't drive manual. I don't care how good he is, James Bond is dead to me.

robsul82: Going by TV spots, Syriana was interesting.

Syriana was interesting. Confusing, but interesting. It's a movie that ties together energy policy, foreign policy, and global security together for the masses--NOT a blow-em-up action movie. If you came to the theatre expecting one, that's your own fault.

Pierce Brosnan was the only bad Bond, IMO. Craig seems much closer to the original intent for the character. Brosnan is a soulless piece of fluff.

Ditto. I feel like going back and giving those threads a big "Told you so."

Syriana was confusing as hell. I've got to try watching it again to try to figure it out. And I don't know about it, I saw the previews for it in "Flags of Our Fathers" (another movie that was far different than the previews) and it didn't look that good. He doesn't LOOK like a Bond. To me the other Bond's have a similar look, they fit together. And Craig doesn't look like them, and in general doesn't look like a Bond. So don't know personally, but I don't give it much.

Thank you. For once a non-hater around here. I'm personally looking forward to a decent Bond flick.

I would not have guessed that Mr. Mom was really Batman

All I can say is, thank <insert favourite deity> that they didn't go with Bronson this time.

I think it's great that people are willing to change things up. There needs to be more of that in the movie business these days. Instead of just going for the big name and making it mindless, they really need to work on developing new talent and taking some chances because the mainstream movies have been pretty stale for awhile now.

I always think about how bad Conan O'Brien sucked at first and how they stuck with him and let him find his groove.

2006-11-06 01:06:46 AM
Actually, on the contary, I've been really really hoping for a Bond that doesn't suck but it has always managed to suck.

However, I think Daniel Craig would be able to do the force girls to have sex thing that the old Bond did pretty well.

Layer Cake, where he steals the girl, is sweet as hell. And, she's out the titties out and he's gone. Good stuff. You have to watch the movie to see what I'm saying.

Another internet rumour sadly lacking in truth.

I can see Daniel Craig being good and the movie sucking.

I have heard, though cannot personally attest, that he looks more like the character described in the books than other Bonds have.

I'm afraid I'm already prejudiced toward Suck by the most recent incarnations of the film.

All the same, if he can rescue the franchise from the assfotrunate piss-poor acting and politicly correct writing that has been the status quo since License to Kill, more power toward him.

2006-11-06 01:18:33 AM
All I know is, I saw a trailer for Layer Cake, then I heard he was the new Bond, then I thought 'that seems like a good choice.' Don't be a slave to your old favorite Bond. I also heard the new movie won't go into cheesy preposterous stunts. Another nice move.

You might want to go rent The Dreamers before everybody else does. Trust me on this one.

How is that movie confusing? It was simply laid out from beginning to end.

/Layer Cake is a solid movie
//like the darker Bond don't know how well Craig will pull it off.

Mendakem quoted: "This may be too much for a blunt instrument to understand..."

Fell in love with that line first time I heard it. :) I think this is going to be a kick ass Bond, and Craig looks perfect for it. But I'm a purist. All these other pube-curl wannabes need to STFU and GBTS (Get back to sleep. It's late!).

PenguinTheRed said, "...if he can rescue the franchise from the assfotrunate... politicly correct writing..."

Agreed.

Can we just get over the manual transmission thing? Seriously? Not only has it already been debunked, but it really has no bearing to anyone but a bunch of anal retentive purist crybabies.

Anyone who watched "Layer Cake" knew he was gonna be a kickass Bond.

And here I thought the saying went "Anyone who ENJOYED watching 'Layer Cake' is a moron who needs a Taste Transfusion,STAT."

I was perfectly okay with Daniel Craig as Bond, up until some idiot talked me into watching "Layer Cake".

2006-11-06 01:47:07 AM
I have to admit I thought it would suck when I heard about it a year ago. "the Tomb Raider guy is going to fark it up". According to the critics I have to say "my bad". If it took any lead from Batman Begins they might have pulled it off. As long as bruckheimer had nothing to do with it......

2006-11-06 01:48:08 AM
Daniel Craig or not, Casino Royale is going to kick ass for two reasons.

1)It is based on an Ian Fleming book

2)It is being directed by the guy who directed Goldeneye, AKA the last decent Bond flick.

Daniel Craig is not the linchpin for the movie. The character is so well established that much less burden is put on whatever actor is playing him. I know I'm going to be dodging tomatoes for saying this, but look at OHMSS. Yes George Lazenby deserves to die and I hope he burns in hell, but if you get past him, it's a damn decent movie which really didn't deserve half the shiat people talk about it. And hey, if Daniel Craig does end up ruining the movie, we can rest soundly knowing that the movie gods will do the same thing to his career that they did to Lazenby
