From TFA: Decorative items were placed around the new TV, apparently in an attempt to fool Miller, according to police reports.

I love it! There's some brain power for you!

If he bought it at Costco, he could just return it and get a new one.

Think outside the box, folks.

I bet he didn't figure it out until he checked TV Guide to see what this new show "PWN3D" was all about.

Perhaps the missing power cord tipped him off?

Now he needs to break in and replace it with a projector and a screen.

When I was in college someone stole my brand new bike, and left me their crappy one. I still laugh every time I think about it.

This reminds me of the time one of my house-mates friends stole the memory card out of my camera and replaced it with his own, cos his was a shiattier brand and had less memory than mine, it was the perfect crime...

except for all the pictures of him on the memory card... and one of his wiener.

When I was a young teenaged fool I drank two bottles of my moms wine and replaced the wine with water and a little bit of wine.
When she figured out what I had done I got a double lecture, the drinking thing and the stealing/cover-up thing.
Moral: just take the whole damn bottle and toss the empty.

It's interresting, a friend of mine spent some time in Morocco and it was fairly common there if your house was burglarized for the burglar to for instance, take your new TV and leave you a functional B&W TV, or take your tins of really nice tea and leave you some regular tea, or whatever else. One of his neighbors had his CD player replaced by a record player.

In those cases I think it's a way of snubbing the wealthy and redistributing things a little bit, if your average working class guy only has a B&W TV and the rich all have huge color sets, it sounds like it would be great fun to equalize things a little bit.
