Looks like pissing on the generals wasn't such a brilliant strategy by the civilian leaders after all.

"I wonder how this will affect the election."
That's the thing about a car crash, you never know just how far the pieces will fly.

Bush is making a Hitler mistake... not listening to his veteran Generals who have proven their worth in the past.

2006-11-04 12:51:23 AM
Bush just signed the new version of the Insurrection Law so he can use the National Guard to fight the weakened (obviously on purpose) military when the Revolution Starts. Woo hoo.

LarsThorwald: The Coast Guard is not a military service under the law.

Yeah, that guy from the Coast Guard who got the Medal Of Honor was certainly no warrior.

2006-11-04 12:55:39 AM
Too bad we dont have someone whos a little more likable, with alot of actual military experiece, to lead this effort

They are apparently not politically LOYAL anough to be given the leadership position

2006-11-04 12:56:26 AM
The Coast Guard works under the Department of War whenever war is declared. In other words, not at the moment.

Funny, I don't see an author. I can't WAIT to see this published in the Army Times!

Perfect timing. Seems too perfect but still perfect.

/I blame Bush

The Coast Guard falls under the Department of Homeland Security. They still draw the same benefits the other branches get but their job has been specified as, well, guarding the coast.

The Coasties do some really cool stuff though. Probably some of the best divers and pararescue units in the world.

But anyway, I read the Air Force Times a lot and some of the columnists are the ones who are trumpeting for Rumsfeld's removal. The main articles that talk about him mostly cast skepticism about his leadership in GWOT and Iraq.

I actually like the Times to a degree because it's a civilian paper and isn't a complete propaganda machine. In fact the Times delights in pointing out some of the outright bullshiat Congress and the brass try to feed us.

It's gotten to the point that now I just ask the few remaining supporters of this horribly failed administrations to tell me 10...no 5.... no 3 things that they have done well and I will shut the hell up and NO ONE has been able to tell me even 2. You know that your goverment sucks when you fall asleep and you actually dream of a functioning goverment.

What about the NOAA Corps Times?

Crazy as it sounds, they are one of our country's seven uniformed services...

2006-11-04 01:03:25 AM
Maybe things would be different if Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove
or any of their children had ever actually seen a day of combat.

2006-11-04 01:03:28 AM
Actually, US Coast Guard sometimes is 'formal' military.

Pre 9/11 the USCG was normally considered to be part of the Dept. of Transportation, but during 'times of war' they are rolled into the US Navy (Hence having the same system of rank as the USN). Post 9/11 I believe they are now part of the Dept. of Homeland Security.

/Dad was in USCG for 20+ years, retired Senior Chief

The Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine Corps Times are worthless liberal propaganda rags. Cut and run isn't a solution. What's your plan? Don't you know we're in a war? Do you even want us to win? Why are you offering comfort to the enemy? Why don't you support the troops? Why do you hate America?

That we're even having this conversation now is depressing. Rumsfeld should have retired or been dropped in 2004, long after it was evident how bad he'd screwed up. Evidently the admission of a mistake is too big of a blunder for this administration to make, so they just spend their time making it worse and keeping Rummy around to confound everyone with his increasingly rare press conferences.

Wow...everyone who isnt Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush's useless wife is a liberal commie now. That's gonna be a problem there guys.

Probably because you're an asshole.

The paper is calling for resignation of Rumsfeld... I don't think it implies anything about "cut and run" there.

It has nothing to do with admitting a mistake...it has to do with the fact that Rumsfeld and Cheney have always run the show and Bush was always the worthless chump.

I mean, you don't exactly see Pinky firing The Brain, do you?

My kind sir,

You are wrong. Lots of stupid does exist in one human being. I know several enlightened men that, as you say are "over the top". As far as trolling sir, I am neither looking for commendation nor approval from the petty likes of you. You sir, are a Godless heathen.

Snap smitty, not quite right, but vastly better than my submit.

They'd have wet pants?

WaffenSS: Bush is making a Hitler mistake... not listening to his veteran Generals who have proven their worth in the past.

I wouldn't compare Bush to Hitler. There are 2 reasons for this:

1) Bush, and I believe this firmly, is not cut from the same cloth. I can't (as an American) believe he is a person disturbed like Hitler. I honestly believe that Bush is simply incapable of changing things for fear of appearing weak politically. This is still dang stupid of course.

2) Bush never listened to his generals.

Stay the course while said course is ineffective isn't a solution either.

So your being an American prevents you from looking at one of our leaders as the psyhopath that he so clearly is. That's some nice blinders you got there, buddy.

Bush is absolutely incapable of empathy to the point of being disordered.

I don't think Bu'ush is a psychopath. Is there something called Grandiose Personality Disorder?

2006-11-04 01:21:50 AM
Oops, my bad. Narcissistic Personality Disorder:

Kantor (1992, pp. 203-204) describes the clinical characteristics of NPD as:

* inordinate self-pride;
* self-concern;
* an exaggeration of the importance of one's experiences and feelings;
* ideas of perfection;
* a reluctance to accept blame or criticism;
* absence of altruism although gestures may be made for the sake of appearance;
* empathy deficit; and,
* grandiosity.

Frances, et.al. (1995, p. 374) add:

* entitlement;
* shallowness;
* preoccupation with fame, wealth, and achievement;
* craving admiration, attention and praise;
* placing excessive emphasis on displaying beauty and power.

He's a bad troll...a very bad troll (megapaw).
Ummm..gee..how do I say this to you. It's not just the libs who want to see that arsehat Rummy get the axe. He's been a lying sack of crap throughout the whole ordeal. He NEEDS to go. Take the time and look back to see how many good generals and other administration (Powell) have left due to him. He's bad for the morale of the troops and he's bad for America. Bush needs to quit playing the "good job" card and see him for what he is and admit that he trusted too much to a jackass.

Its Rumsfeld and Rice's fault there was no gd plan about what to do after we bent Saddam's army over the couch. He should be canned but Bush doesn't have the sack to do it.
