Not really though. It's not so hard to do when sucker punching someone like a coward. The victim had no opportunity to brace.""

While I am sure I can break anyone's jaw given time to really tee off on them (6'2", 195 LBS), as can probably any decent sized guy or one who can throw a punch, I will dissagree that just about any 16 year old girl can do this even if it is to a "softer target" like another 16 year old girl. I'm gonna clal BS on this. I'm thikning there was a sucker punch then a kick afterwards. I simply do no believe this happened, whether or not the vicitm was "braced" or "ready", although I would not like to tell the girl that allegedly did it to prove it LOL.

I saw a girl in my high school talking to a slightly smaller guy, and they got into it a bit over whoknowswhat problem. The guy called her a ho,. and punched her, and she proceeded to beat his little ass into one of those chemestry room sinks. She just kept hitting the poor bastard and he couldnt get back to his feet. I hate to say it, but it was one of the funniest things I ahve ever seen in my life. I hate to say it, but we never saw that kid again. He probably considered suicide after that humiliation lol. Poor guy.

Why not? I have a friend who's heavy into soccer, belonging to a team that takes it seriously. Her coach has them do upper-body weight training along with the other standard soccer conditioning. Not to mention, you have adrenaline, mixed with apparent anger, assuming the girl had some muscle above her legs, I could definitely see this happening. Hell, sometimes all it takes is a lucky shot (or an unlucky one, from the other girl's perspective).

I had a girlfriend once who had played soccer in high school on the same team as her sister. They had a system. If they were going towards an opposing girl who had the ball one would call "ball" and one would call "girl"...

Each would go after their respective targets.

That told me all I ever needed to know about how "nice" girls soccer is.

Trust me, it's not so hard to break a jaw if it's undefended. It has little to do with strength, though it certainly helps. Go watch what little kids in martial arts classes can do with their fists. They aren't physically strong, but I have no doubt they could break my jaw if they snuck me.

2nd Degree Assault is a Class D Felony in NYS See below. Class D felonies are punishable by up to seven years imprisonment. She is probably only guilty of 3rd Degree assault which is a Class A Misdeemanor, but there is a kicker in the law that ups it to 2nd degree if on school grounds but it is fuzzy as students are usually exempt from the kicker. Both Laws are shown below.

Section 120.00 Assault in the third degree

A person is guilty of assault in the third degree when:

1. With intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person; or

2. He recklessly causes physical injury to another person; or

3. With criminal negligence, he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument.

Assault in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor.

A person is guilty of assault in the second degree when:

1. With intent to cause serious physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person; or

2. With intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person by means of a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument; or

3. With intent to prevent a peace officer, police officer, a fireman, including a fireman acting as a paramedic or emergency medical technician administering first aid in the course of performance of duty as such fireman, or an emergency medical service paramedic or emergency medical service technician or medical or related personnel in a hospital emergency department, from
performing a lawful duty, by means including releasing or failing to control an animal under circumstances evincing the actors intent that the animal obstruct the lawful activity of such peace office, police officer, fireman, paramedic or technician, he causes physical injury to such peace officer, police officer, fireman, paramedic technician or medical or related personnel in a hospital emergency department; or

5. For a purpose other than lawful medical or therapeutic treatment, he intentionally causes stupor, unconsciousness or other physical impairment or injury to another person by administering to him, without his consent, a drug, substance or preparation capable of producing the same; or

6. In the course of and in furtherance of the commission or attempted commission of a felony, other than a felony defined in article one hundred thirty which requires corroboration for conviction, or of immediate flight therefrom, he, or another participant if there be any, causes physical injury to a person other than one of the participants; or

7. Having been charged with or convicted of a crime and while confined in a correctional facility, as defined in subdivision three of section forty of the correction law, pursuant to such charge or conviction, with intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person; or

8. Being eighteen years old or more and with intent to cause physical injury to a person less than eleven years old, the defendant recklessly causes serious physical injury to such person; or

9. Being eighteen years old or more and with intent to cause physical injury to a person less than seven years old, the defendant causes such injury to such person; or

10. Acting at a place the person knows, or reasonably should know, is on school grounds and with intent to cause physical injury, he or she:

(a) causes such injury to an employee of a school or public school district; or

11. With intent to cause physical injury to a train operator, ticket inspector, conductor, bus operator, or station agent employed by any transit agency, authority or company, public or private, whose operation is authorized by New York state or any of its political subdivisions, he or she causes physical injury to such train operator, ticket inspector, conductor, bus operator, or station agent while such employee is performing an assigned duty on, or directly related to, the operation of a train or bus.

Assault in the second degree is a class D felony.

That's messed up, but after coaching youth soccer I'm not surprised. I had a girl on my team until the 5th game this season, when her mother effectively made her quit the team because she asked to go to the bathroom, who had no problems pushing, shoving, and being aggressive. It got so bad that I threatened to bench her if she did it again, and I had to go apologize to the other coach and player for what she did because I don't teach that. We've been a crap team since she left, but no one has been pushed down since. BTW, when I told her father about the pushing, I also told him that she seemed tired and didn't want to play. He yanked her up by her arm (she's 7) and started screaming at her. When I then mentioned the pushing, he didn't have a problem with it. Did I mention he's a pro coach for competitive youth soccer up here in North Texas?

Similarly, my son, who is 5, got into it with another boy on the soccer field this season and chacked him in the chest during a play. After he came off the field, I dressed him down for putting his hands on the other kid, then marched him over to the other side of the field and made him apologize to the kid and his parents for putting his hands on the other kid. He hasn't done it since, and he better not. There are enough asshat kids in youth sports (parents too) for my kid to become one of them.

Yes, but only at the young recreational level. Competitive teams don't play players like that.

Don't fault her for the sucker punch but not during the handshakes, that's just dishonorable. Knock her biatch ass down on the field, then shake her hand at the end.

That's how hockey players do it!

This girl needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This was not some minor dust-up but rather a premeditated, felonious assault, complete with malice aforethought; her parent's reaction (or lack thereof) is also absolutely contemptible, if not downright criminal. I realize this is FARK, but there is nothing even remotely funny about this situation; I can't imagine anyone with kids finding this amusing.

Her team left on their bus before the cops arrived. WTF is wrong with the coach? Then her parents refused to bring her in. WTF is wrong with them? Seems to me that this girl is violent because the adults around her protect and tacitly condone this behavior.

Used to referee soccer, also coached boys select teams.

I was shocked the first time I ref'd a girls game, their language was rougher then any boys game I had seen. They were vicous to the other team, not exactly the same trash talk as the guys, but more personal.

Probably some lip being given and it hit home, so the other girl decided to hit. Not excusing it, but the "unprovoked" comment may not be wholly accurate

No. I took Karate for over 19 years, and judo for 23. It is simply not happening. The number of 16 year old girls in even karate circles that can generate enough force to break the human jawbone and knock out 3 teeth with the same punch is not many. There have been many times where I have been struck cold in the jaw by a student during sessions where I was facing multiple opponents, where it was impossible to defend myself from 3 sets of fists simultaneously punching me, and of those times when it was a 16 year old girl (I can think of at least 3), never once was there even a concern about a broken jaw. Granted, as a man my jaw is a bit stronger than that girls, but the jaw is an extremely difficult bone to break. I am sticking with the BS flag on this one. Sorry.

2006-11-02 04:11:47 PM
As to whether it's physically possible for 16 year old girl to break another's jawbone... well, maybe the victim fell hard on a rock.

Am I the only one annoyed that the article doesn't find out from the offending player's school what the nature of her academic punishement will be? Criminal charges aside, she should be at least be off the team.

I'd be very disappointed if her school protected her in some way.

When I was in college I worked in a cafeteria (in the middle of the girls dorms, which kicked ass and is a whole other story) that was across the street from the soccer field. There were some absurdly hot girls on the team, and as mentioned above they were only thick with muscular thighs and asses. I am not normally that into the athletic build, but they were extra special hot.

What happened to just spitting in your hand before you shake hands with the opposing team?

2006-11-02 09:29:56 PM
Two things:

1) The "unprovoked" comment is probably in reference to physical play. Most officers would not consider anything short of absolutely berating people on the field as provocation for something like this. BTW, from my soccer days, the people who were good and never said anything about it were the ones who tended to be hated.

2) There is absolutely no excuse for this. I have to agree with LargeCanine about the fact that the coach did not wait till the police got there and the parents not giving the girls up. First, the girl should be kicked out of ALL high school sports and extra-curricular activities, not to mention getting suspended from school (this should constitute fighting on school grounds). Second, she should get the book thrown at her to make an example to others who think this type of thing is okay. Third, the coach should be disciplined for not waiting till cops showed up. Fourth, the parents should have charges brought against them for harboring, even if they do not go to trial.

It would be one thing (though still not something I would agree with) if the girl had challenged the other to a fight afterward. Blindsiding her like this is inexcusable.

/Once hard tackled a teammate during practice because I was tired of him doing it to us. Never forgot the sick feeling I had afterward, and I have done everything I can to keep from doing anything like that again.
