Carl Pohlad is an evil man. I'm not even a baseball fan and I hate him. farker. Put up or shut up about whining for a new stadium...I want a new car but I'm not on TV telling the rest of the Twin Cities it would only cost them 19 cents a year.
He's is the living embodyment of Montgomery Burns from the Simpsons. I was going to put the two images together, but it looks like someone beat me to it.

The ESPN article is poorly headlined. It should be the 10 CHEAPEST owners in sports.

Steinbrenner is greedy in a different way, he wants to be the only guy who wins.

2002-07-15 02:34:30 PM
What ?? Daniel Snyder is only at 10 ??? bullsh|T !!

2002-07-15 04:23:56 PM
Uhhh.... "greedist"??????

2002-07-15 04:24:23 PM
Say all you want about Steinbrenner but he takes care of the only people he needs to...YANKEE fans. Not baseball fans. I'm sure he could be pulling in a lot more money with a smaller payroll.

Before you throw stones I am NOT a Yankee fan

2002-07-15 04:24:56 PM
Has money, likes to win. Able to use money for the purpose of winning. Uh-oh.

2002-07-15 04:26:09 PM
I have always had a theory that rich owners take horrible pictures.

This article is all the proof I need.

Steinbrenner is only greedy about championships. There are other skinflints out there who are worse for pro sports (not many, tho).

2002-07-15 04:28:14 PM
I bet you'd be pretty hard pressed to find an owner that is not greedy.

2002-07-15 04:28:23 PM
Two words: Bill Bidwell

2002-07-15 04:28:58 PM
Nice to see David Glass made the list. God do we miss Mr. Kauffman.

2002-07-15 04:30:42 PM
I so knew jeremy Jacobs would be on this list

Miserable prick.

2002-07-15 04:31:26 PM
I know Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, its the biggest dumbass of all the team owners in sports.

2002-07-15 04:31:38 PM
I only read this to make sure Mike Brown was listed.

*whew*

2002-07-15 04:32:08 PM
Peter Angelos? as a lawyer at least!

2002-07-15 04:32:49 PM
At least Jerry Jones made the honorable mention list. That sorry SOB. He should just fire all the coaches and do the job himself so he can prove once and for all that he is a retard and needs to stay in his luxo-box.

What's so bad about running a team with low payroll? OK, so Boston should have a higher payroll, but seriously, 1st place in the Eastern Conference with that kind of a payroll, that's a pretty good accomplishment. Not as good as Vancouver having 2 of the top 3 scorers with a lower payroll though ;)

2002-07-15 04:35:02 PM
All i want to know is how the Dolan family managed to stay off this list, they mustve paid ESPN a million or two , they should at least get honrable mention! (knicks, rangers, MSG)

2002-07-15 04:35:44 PM
Jerry Jones didn't get on the official list because his votes were evenly split between "Jerry Jones" and "Fire Marshall Bill."

2002-07-15 04:37:47 PM
If they had Top 10 As$holes

Larry Dolan would be #1

Way to go moron you completely disabled one of the best teams in baseball in a years time... Fool.

If the Indians lose there logo I will personally go biatch slap Dolan

2002-07-15 04:37:51 PM
Hey , I messed up the headline . Big farking whoop.

2002-07-15 04:37:58 PM
I don't the Boston Bruins example is about greed or cheapness. Sure, they have a smaller payroll than Buffalo, but how well did they do last year? They won their conference. You don't play a player more than he's worth, if all owners had that much brains you wouldn't have seconds string centres making $9 million a year. Overpriced players means overpriced tickets.

Granted, some of these owners are greedy asking for taxpayers to pay for new stadiums or threatening to leave. (Which is extortion and against the law, but that's another story.)

2002-07-15 04:39:13 PM
The NY franchises are not on the list because they SPEND!!

They spend TOO much in fact. Thats why fans say New York is ruining Sports for the small market teams.

Baseball, Hockey, Basketball. NY spends more than anyother city in all those sports...by a HUGE margin.

2002-07-15 04:42:23 PM
How on earth are the Bengals the 12th most valuable NFL franchise? No way. Unless they meant 12th in the AFC, which I'd believe.

And Steinbrenner doesn't deserve to be put on this list. He spends plenty of money on the team. That's exactly the problem with The Boss, according to Yankee haters (or those just jealous of their success - if indeed there's a difference between the two groups). If George just pocketed the huge sums of money that the Yankees generate, he'd be in same group as Pohlad, Selig, etc.

2002-07-15 04:44:57 PM
Glad to see that turkey-butt Bill Wirtz made the list. I'm a die-hard Blackhawks fan, but he's really REALLY mean and greedy.

2002-07-15 04:49:13 PM
Art Modell is still afraid to come into Ohio. Even to Bengals games. And Bengals fans hate the Browns. But they hate his ass more.

2002-07-15 04:49:26 PM
Hey, is this one of the women from NOW?

2002-07-15 04:49:31 PM
BrotherAlpha: The Bruins are smart for not paying out big money for players that don't deserve it, but when other teams do go out and pay it on a routine basis doesn't that make the Bruins greedy? After all, they have just as many fans as other teams yet they have to pay a lot less for their players. Smart business, yes. Greedy, yes.

2002-07-15 04:49:48 PM
Nice to see Selig and Jerry Jones in there... two assheads with the same motives.

2002-07-15 04:50:59 PM
carl pohlad should be #1 as he is, but Bud Selig should be #2.

2002-07-15 04:54:55 PM
Almost forgot. Modell needs to be shot. In the nuts. In public. Twice.

2002-07-15 05:01:12 PM
Steinbrenner's not greedy! If he was he wouldn't be paying Jeter $15,000,000.00 a year. He's a winner! I just wish the Bengals had a Steinbrenner instead of a Brown. The Bengals have sucked since Paul Brown died and his deranged son took over. Steinbrenner may be the best owner in sports. Sure he meddles, but if I had half a billion dollars sunk into a venture you'd better believe I'd get involved.

I hope the MLB players strike, the owners tell them to fark off and teams are restocked with players who: A) Aren't so friggin greedy, B) Aren't on steroids and C) Appreciate the game.

2002-07-15 05:02:13 PM
All their faces look like they've been Photoshopped. Is this mislabeled ?

2002-07-15 05:02:19 PM
Right on Peel. I say we take up a collection to buy "Not my Bud" Selig a new toupee. You'd think with all his money, he could afford to join the Hair Club for Men...

2002-07-15 05:06:50 PM
I agree, bad title.. Cheap is the word, not greedy. Stienbrenner is greedy, but no one who spends $125 large every year to win some baseball games is cheap.

I am shocked Jacobs isn't higher. The Bruins are among the most cash rich teams in the NHL. Their revenues are massive and they always post a huge profit. Yet the team's payroll is at the bottom of the league. They consistantly let every good player go...

Jacobs has never been to a Bruins game in Boston... never. They only time he showed up was to oversee the contruction of the Fleet Center to make sure his concession stands were up to snuff.

The Bruins mean one thing to this man, and one thing only... a way to sell overpriced nachos and beer.

2002-07-15 05:07:29 PM
Well, the problem with the Bruins is that in addition to a very low payroll, they also have some of the most expensive ticket prices in the league. They took what was a blue collar fan base, and priced them out of the game. And sure, the Bruins will ocassionally do well in a season, but they will never keep any of their talent around.

2002-07-15 05:07:33 PM
For what little I pay attention to sports, I do have to say that the really evil owners are the ones who hold entire cities hostage, threatening to move the team, unless they get a new stadium or something like that.

That's one of many reasons I hate Pat Bowlen, who owns the Denver Broncos (and I'm not a fan, but I have to pay taxes on a stadium I never use)

2002-07-15 05:08:32 PM

Despite the fact that the Indians aren't going to amount to a hill of shiat for a very long time, at least I have an image I can carry with me for a long time: a grand slam off of Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the ninth.

Sure, the Yankees will probably make it to the Series again (that is, if there's not a strike)...but no one can take that away from me.

2002-07-15 05:17:18 PM
Is Jeffery Loria listening to the Icy Hot Stuntaz?

2002-07-15 05:17:35 PM
This is one of the reasons it's great to be a Packer fan. The Packers are the only publicly owned team in the NFL, so no owner. Just a president who is held accountable for his actions and a team that's probably never going to move. I have to wonder, are there any publicly owned teams in any of the other major sports franchises?

2002-07-15 05:23:35 PM
AchtungAl: Not paying players more than they're worth just to keep up to other teams in the league could only be considered greedy if the team also sells tickets for more than they're worth, just to keep up with other teams.

I don't know if that's true with the Briuns.

2002-07-15 05:28:46 PM
What Al " Just win baby " Davis didn't make the top 10.... tsk I guess the 21 million dollars he farked from oakland doen't count as greed.

Nope. IIRC the NFL now has a rule prohibiting any other teams from doing the same thing.

2002-07-15 05:34:23 PM
Remember that noone reeks of evil worse than Modell. He had a rabid fan base, a successful team, and turned his back on it because the stadium would not be funded by the city. He used the team to hold the city ransom, essentially, then ripped away one of the most beloved franchises in the NFL to move to baltimore. What owner used the emotions attached to his team to do that? A lean payroll isn't the worst form of greed; the evils undertaken in the name of this greed must be accounted for. Bring me the head of Art Modell. I will see how much I could get in a pledge drive for proof of his demise here in cleveland.

2002-07-15 05:36:31 PM
Notice how, if you include the 'honorable mentions' that Chicago had 3 teams on the list.. hawks, cubs, bulls.

*sigh*

2002-07-15 05:49:05 PM
a low payroll != greed. The Reds have one of the lowest payrolls in the league, but we also have the lowest ticket prices, etc.

Of course, being a Reds fan, AND a Cleveland Browns fan, seeing Mike Brown, Bud Selig, AND Art Modell on the list is sweet, if not obvious....

2002-07-15 05:51:42 PM
Jeffrey Loria can DIE! DIE! DIE! You can't really call him greedy, it's more like he just has the innate desire to fark over whatever he touches. The city of Montreal had land set aside for a new downtown stadium, and Loria kept saying he'd keep the team in Montreal, and look where we are now. Montreal baseball fans haven't helped, but they aren't stupid, they know when they're being sold a bad product.
