Hmm, I was just reading an article in Foreign Policy about the US already being in a sharp decline, but having had put a good facade over it. At the time I didn't really believe it, but with the dollar falling, the stock market crashing, the inability of the world's largest military industrial complex to even find one little man in the world and a group of non-state fanatics able to strike a huge blow at the US, maybe there was something to it afterall...

"It's amazing. It just seems that Bush and the adminstration did not really get the message," Payne said.

Speak slower and use smaller words. Also helps to have him write it down 50 times to commit it to memory.

The Great Depression

2002-07-15 01:02:22 PM
Dattaway: No, no, that would be the Great Depression II. ;)
I doubt that, but it's certainly not a good day. It could just be 1987. That only took us a good 5 years to get over, right?

I implore all of you sheep to sell your stocks. Jay Leno is even recommending it. And by the time Jay Leno is giving stock recommendations, that probably means that the stock market has hit the bottom.

If you had bought EMC (+20%), CSCO (+16%), YHOO (+15%) around July 2, you would be making money now. These and many other intitutional stocks are coming off of their bases with good upside volume ahead of all the dire news. The unseen wall street sharks are scoping up stocks ahead of time with their CNN propaganda......

so sell sell sell, you sheep. off to the slaughter house with you.

(Wise thing, do the opposite of what you read, no matter how crazy it seems. That is what the pros are doing.)

anyone see a pattern emerging here?

Lets ban the entire family from running for elections from now on please...who cares if the pres gets a BJ from a intern...if he runs consumer confidence well then I say use cherry flavored lube for her pleasure and keep up the good work (literally and figuratively)

Now imagine what would have happened to poor old grandma's Social Security check if a good portion of her account was invested in the market.

2% gain sound pretty good right now. Glad that plan never went through. There was a reason that SS was invested in safe investments. This market's performance is one of them.

Good luck to all those riding this one out! You will need it.

2002-07-15 01:36:04 PM
Hahahaha ... i got no money invested cos im poor anyway.

Here's a thought to cheer you up, if you look throughout
history, the Great Depression was actually a fairly mild
economic downturn. Go back 50 years to China and they were
canabilizing each other.
;-> Toodles.

Clinton = 8 yrs of prosperity, no war and little oval office sex

Shrub = economic disaster, war and a dumbass president.

That is all.

2002-07-15 02:03:28 PM
I was told by a x-ian fundy that GWB is better because of one fact
that he had morals...it doesn't matter if the country goes into warfare against the world and it doesn't matter if the economy resembles that of some backwoods tribe in Africa, what matters is that he isn't getting a headjob on the side...

I for one think voting rights should be taken away from some ppl...ppl whom cannot distinguish between politics and religion...

If the eight years of Clinton were just a cover up to the "real state" of our econmony then I prefered someone who could keep it together enough (IE growth) to cover it up.

Bush is so bad it still stuns me that he got elected.

Wait... I voted with the Majority. Now how did that happen? Al Gore was the bigger fool for thiking that the American people would not elect a god-dang fool into office. Wait...

Oh yeah.

2002-07-15 02:07:34 PM
Bush is bad...mmmmkay...like a farking broken record on Fark.

2002-07-15 02:09:11 PM
I'm riding it out, unless of course one of the CEO's of a co. I own stock in pulls an Enron. Then I guess I've fallen out of the saddle.

A year ago I took 5k out of the market and plopped it into a 36 month fixed 4.5% IRA. Makes me look like a farking genius right now. There are some really good bargains out there and it's time for my employer to contribute to our SEP-IRA. I hope he does it soon because these days of cheap McDonalds, Coke, or Intel stock won't last. The rest of you keep selling, please.

2002-07-15 02:11:47 PM
The sell off is by "know it all" idiots who are in the market to get rich quick! The smart investors are buying and so should you and hold on to your investments.

2002-07-15 02:16:19 PM
In 3 years market will be at 1300.
Clinton and his buddies didn't do shait - which was good.

Sell everything and put it all into canned food and shotguns.

Tonight we're gonna party like its 1929.

2002-07-15 02:17:19 PM
I hate to break it to you Monday morning QBs, but there is absolutely no evidence that the economy would be any better if Big Al Gore had been elected. A careful reading of any newspaper would reveal that most, if not all, of the accounting shenanigans and fraud that's now coming out (including Enron and Worldcom) actually occurred during Clinton's term, not GWB II's. In fact, Alan Greenspan coined the "irrational exuberance" term several years back, when Clinton was still president, to embody his feelings that the market was out of whack at *that* time.

But hey, sounds like you've all got some political diatribe to vent. Don't let the facts get in your way; Tom Daschle certainly doesn't...

2002-07-15 02:19:18 PM
Sell it now, and buy it back in 6 months. Let it all hit bottom, then do the patriotic thing, and re-invest in America.

No, it a 200.5k now.

2002-07-15 02:24:12 PM
To all the Bush haters - what exactly did he do to start this and what should he do to stop it? Add to that the question : What did Clinton do to create his "peace and prosperity"?
I real answers would be nice, because without those your criticisms are moot.

2002-07-15 02:27:58 PM

Does anyone else think this:

looks like this a graphic from the Onion?

2002-07-15 02:30:38 PM
I knew the Bush haters would come out on this thread.

Let's see, who was in office during the 'prosperous' 1990's when all the dirty accounting took place? hmmmmm. Only the dirtiest president of them all, Slick Willie Snowjob.

2002-07-15 02:32:38 PM
Well how about that!
