Bad 80s TV has finally become the future around the corner:

"But Michael, I....."

"No arguments, KITT; find me a 224kbps MP3 of 'It's Raining Men' that was encoded with LAME, not some junk a/d converter. I don't care if you have to search every OpenNap server on the planet, I want it by morning!"

"(sigh) Jumping from rooftop to rooftop was so much easier."

3 series BMW drivers are the spawn of Satan.

Whenever you see a car being driven with zero consideration and/or skill, it's a bloke in a 3 series. Kill 'em all.

A couple of questions:

1) Are turn signals optional features on BMWs?

2) Do you have to be an asshole to buy a BMW, or will they sell them to non-ego driven, selfish, narcissists too?

RagingLeonard:

I think you have BMW's confused with Mercedes's.

Particularly if the Mercedes has a USC Alumni license plate frame.

The difference between a BMW and a porcupine is that the porcupine's pricks are on the outside.

I've noticed that the anti-BMW sentiment usually lasts up until the point you get to drive one. The same thing is usually true about macs, guns, and cheerleaders.

My dad's BMW (somehow) notifies the dealership when it needs service. Kinda creepy to get a call to arrange to bring your car in for service when you didn't even know it needed it.

No wonder I hate cheerleaders. Hmm...

While you sleep, your BMW will scour the Net -- via Wi-Fi and other connections -- collecting, say, 15 minutes of new jazz followed by a 10-minute podcast on the energy industry.

...and 3 hours of adverts for increasing your penis size.

Yea, this is goin to be great until people realize its monitoring their habits and delivering customized advertising.

Too bad BMW is pouring its R&D money into useless technology, instead of making the cars perform well enough to warrant their insane price tags.

This begs the question, when will the RIAA sue you because your car is stealing content?

I'd love to be able to pull my 5 series into the garage, have it sync up with my iTunes, updating all my music and podcasts while I'm sleeping (or whatever). Rather handy.

I used to hate the things until I drove one - a mid 90s 3 series. Needed more room so I bought a slightly used 5 series, I've never looked back. Great car, the only maintenance in the last 2 years have been brakes and a new radiator. Change the oil every 3k and it's happy. Insurance isn't that bad.

/the 3 series rep seems to be well earned around here :P

With a little tweaking my 2000 Saturn can do that. You just have to have the time and effort to network a computer into it.

Is that a LP Premium Plus without a pickguard in your profile?

"Kettle, Pot, BLACK, over"
"Pot, Kettle, roger BLACK, out"

I meant to say:

I must have missed the space between the music and the until, and the fark gods converted the inadvertant dirty word for me.

I don't think the world really needed this technology...

The first car I ever bought was an E28 535i. Will probably never drive anything else. The upcoming 335xi is hot as balls.

Agreed.

On my second 530i. Have driven many, many, many sports cars and never knew the joy until the 5 Series.

I like other cars, but I also respect other people on the road, not like a bunch of the other asshat, hotrodders out there that think they are so cool with their suped up Hondas and Toyotas.

The Toyota Volta looks like my next car though - way cool!
0 - 60 in 4.
Breakneck speed in a hybrid.

Oh, and yeah...

Ran Windows boxes until the Mac ci came out (still run both Mac/Win) and own guns. Only screwed one cheerleader though, still...
So much fun, so little time...

I drive an old 87' E30 325iS. I love that car.
It is extremely fun to drive, every other car that I've ever driven just feels "wrong" by comparison. I reckon that I will probably be driving Bimmers for the rest of my life, if I can. I'd rather buy a 5-year-old BMW than just about any new model of any other brand.

Glasgowsfinest: Whenever you see a car being driven with zero consideration and/or skill, it's a bloke in a 3 series. Kill 'em all.

Zero skill? Are you kidding me?
With the exception of maybe Porsche, there is hardly any other volume car manufacturer that has a customer base that loves professional driving so much. The BMWCCA holds autocrosses and driving school events all the time, and BMW itself has a program that allows you to take your newly-bought car out on a racetrack with an instructor.

Zero skill... maybe for Ford drivers, or Toyota, or GM, but BMW? No way.

RagingLeonard: 1) Are turn signals optional features on BMWs?

I always use my turn signals.

2) Do you have to be an asshole to buy a BMW, or will they sell them to non-ego driven, selfish, narcissists too?

They sell them to people who want to buy them, just like the ego-driven, selfish, narcissists who drive Lincoln Navigators and Ford Mustangs. But I'd venture to say that BMW draws a lot more people who love and appreciate cars and driving than Ford/Lincoln/GM does.

The topic reminds me of the King of Queens episode about Tivo thinking the guy was gay.

1) Are turn signals optional features on BMWs?

The drivers might be using them, but the shiatty electrical system might have screwed up the lights.

Right, but it's the minority of BMW drivers who actually participate. The rest are out there not signalling and showing off their fog lamps.

True, true. But I don't know that the rest of them are any worse than your average SUV/Mustang driver.
