(News Target)   Is your wife a shopaholic? Soon you may be able to treat this mental illness with a pill. Unfortunately, the pill will cost $1467 and will only be available in mall stores   (newstarget.com) divider line 17

Is that what the teachers say when the seduce young students? They are shopaholics and need treatment? Works for Mel Gibson, so might as well work for everyone else.

You know what's a surefire cure for shopaholics?

Poverty.

Demon of the Fall: You know what's a surefire cure for shopaholics?

No, there's still easy credit to be had.
We need to bring back debtors prisons or something.

Anyone find funny the idea of shopaholics, which desire instant gratification for short terms, should be remedied with a pill?

now if there were only SOME WAY I could combine my shopaholicness with my internet compulsion and my love of animal porn ...

OOPS, did I post that out loud?

Well, considering that the dude that runs this site links to a $cientology site in one article as a source of "truthful" information on modern psychiatry (pops), I think I'll take all his claims with a grain of salt.

/Wouldn't be surprised if this was another $cientology front site, despite the dude's claims that he's not affiliated with them.

Jizz Master (he tried, and failed, to type with a straight face): can't a fellow harbor a healthy hatred of psychiatry without being branded a Scientologist? I mean, it's not like there's video of him couch-jumping ...

I know the ship has already sailed on this but I wish they'd drop the "-aholic" thing. There's no such thing as shopahol. It's more annoying than adding "-gate" to everything scandalous.

I'll show myself out.

I'll admit to being a former shopaholic. For me it was the same as when people eat to fill a void in their life. It was self-destructve and stupid. It took three years to pay off my debts, have good credit and be able to trust myself again.

But you'll save money if you buy the pill when it's on sale!

They make 120 grain lead pills for that already.

The drug companies just want to collect lists of compulsive shoppers so they can turn around and sell the lists to department stores. Soon you will need a bigger mailbox to accomodate all the sales fliers.

NewsTarget.com is a Scientology-run website. Getting information on psychiatry from this site is like reading "Mein Kampf" to learn about Jews.

/oh yes, I went there

NewHere

I linked to it from News With Views.com. I'm not a $cientologi$t but I agree that psychiatry is quackery.

Know how I cured my depression? Stopped feeling sorry for myself.

It gets crazy, though, how suddenly all these new syndromes to pop up...and there's a pill for each one of them all of a sudden.

There has been a lot of research into impulsive behaviors but of course they are still poorly understood. Everyone has heard about Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder; do they deny that this is an illness? Like so many mental disorders, there is most likely a spectrum of disease of which "shopaholism" is a lesser manifestation. Are drugs the answer? Doubt it, but they may help some people.
