In the hands of Sunday BBQers lawn chairs can seem like an innocent relaxing past time. But in the wrong hands lawn chairs can be deadly.

It's only a $5.00 fine to shoot someone who looks Middle Eastern in Utah.

Okay, here goes. I'll make a list of dumbass actions from said article:

1)Climbing on top of roof to film game - very aware that you're tresspassing.
2)Seeing some guy in a lawnchair, claiming he has a rifle, get SWAT team.
3)Seeing SWAT team and ignoring/running from them because you "thought they were fakes."

RTFA. He climbed on top of the school. I think he may have been tresspassing a bit.

My favorite part:

Parent Andres Dominguez reported hearing someone screaming, "Shooting! Shooting!" when officials ordered the field cleared.

Way to scream fire in a crowded theater dumbass!

School Athletic Committees are the education equivalent of homeowners associations. Many prohibit videotaping school sporting events just so they can later profit by selling their own recordings of the games. So basically you aren't even allowed to videotape your own child in a game. That's probably why this dude went to extreme lengths to videotape his kid.

Had a friend in high school who climbed up on the school roof fairly often. He went up there to tend to the pot plants he was growing. They were a couple of feet tall before anyone found them. He didn't take a chair or a rifle.

Just Cheetos.

ColSanders: . That's probably why this dude went to extreme lengths to videotape his kid.

I know this may be a bit crazy, but if I'm going to be sneaky and film my kid's football game against the graces of the school, I might leave the lawn chair at home.

2006-10-18 06:46:27 PM
Keep in mind, his kid is not the only kid in the game. Other parents would need to give permission for their kids to be filmed. And if it were in CA, they'd want points on the international gross as well.

wow, there seems to be way too much jumping at shadows here. is this the new norm?

And i can just imagine the reason for the ticketing too.

"well we [swat team] were called here for no apparent reason so we better make him look like the chump instead of us. let's get him for something. anything." "sarge, he's on the roof of a public building." "that'll do. let's get him for trespassing."

2006-10-18 06:49:15 PM
Who gives a shiat if he climbed on the roof? He should be commended for having some initiative. He needed a good location to film from, found it and took it. All that was needed was to tell him "don't do that again". farking helicopter parents and their chickenshiat sheep mentality

Damn you Inigo! You beat me to the Rocket Lawnchair comment.

If I had a rocket lawnchair... some sonuvabiatch would die.

Also, is there such as thing as a low-powered sniper rifle? Why is the reference always to high-powered rifles?

And why do they call it a building anyway? It looks finished, why don't they call it a built?

It's not surprising. Lets look at some other things that cops have mistaken for guns:

SO, as you can see, mistaking this:

is a trivial mistake.

In all fairness, I think those policies are a damn good thing.

I've been to a number of school productions and dance recitals and the like in the past where you couldn't see the damn stage for all the budding Spielberg's trying to get the perfect shot of their little precious.

This way, EVERYONE gets to SEE the show unobstructed, EVERYONE has access to a tape made by a guy/crew that's been given a good place to shoot the entire show.

If you can shoot it without blocking my view, more power to you... but half these guys don't even try... They just jam the camera straight up in the air and ignore anyone behind them.

haysoos: Also, is there such as thing as a low-powered sniper rifle? Why is the reference always to high-powered rifles?

Actually, there are...depending on what you define as "low-powered".

I read an article a year or two ago about how the Israelis use suppressed, scoped Ruger 10/22 rifles for close range (
It doesn't get much less powerful than a .22, but that's not really "sniping". Most "sniper" rifles are .308 Win (7.62mm NATO) or more powerful specifically because a real sniper usually will only get one shot at their target, and they'd better make it count.

Yes*

* Void in blue states, cities with more than one Starbucks, the East and West coasts, financial, industrial and media capitals, and anywhere with >0.001% risk of terrorism by non-white supremacists.

Er...that was supposed to be ("less-than" 50m), only using the actual less-than sign. Unfortunately, it's parsed at an HTML tag and made the line disappear.

Also not appearing in the post was my point about how the Izzies are using these rifles against leaders of violent riots/crowds by shooting them in the legs. It's quiet, they immobilize the bad guy from a range greater than that of a taser, and they can easily capture them.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_equipment_of_Israel for more info.

We should all follow Bush's example. When the whole country was in panic because we were attacked, he stayed cool and calm. No worries.

Everybody else was scared, calling their loved ones to see if they were ok... every last American who was not sleeping...but not Bush. He was the ONLY FARKING AMERICAN who just sat down calmly reading with the kiddies after the 2nd plane hit.

You gotta admire someone that fearless.

"Kranz jumped down from the roof and ran when officers tried to get him to drop to his knees and show his hands, Olsen said. Kranz told police he didn't respond because he didn't believe they were really officers."

Yeah, this has "dumbass" written all over it. His kid must be mortified.

As for the "lawn chair" he was carrying, I bet it was really one of those camp chairs that fold up nicely into a three-foot long, 6-inch around case with a strap on it. If THAT'S what he was really carrying, then I can see how someone would think (from a distance) he was carrying a riffle bag.

BTW, those camp chairs are NICE! I own three, they're comfy and unlike old-school lawn chairs, they don't leave the backs of your legs looking like Belgian waffles

The second plane hit at 9:02:59 a.m. That's only 2 minutes before the timestamp on the above photo (assuming it's the actual timestamp, and not added afterwards, and also assuming the time is calibrated correctly). I'm not sure if the news couls have reached him that quickly. SOmeone would have to see the second plane hit, get over their shock, pick up a phone and contact someone who was there with the President. (Doubtless there are more levels of contact that this, but let's assume a best-case scenario). They would have to get to the President, waiting until they could speak to him without alarming the children. I can Easily see this whole process takigng more than 2 minutes.

Indeed, looking at the timeline on Wiki, it shows:

9:03:11: Flight 175 crashes at about 590 mph (950 km/h) into the south side of the South Tower

9:03: President Bush enters a classroom as part of his visit.

9:06: After brief introductions to the Booker elementary students, President Bush is about to begin reading with the students when Chief of Staff Andrew Card interrupts to whisper to the president, "A second plane hit the other tower, and America's under attack." The president stated later that he decided to continue the lesson rather than alarm the students.

9:15 (approximately): President Bush leaves the classroom in which he has been reading with students, and enters another, commandeered by the Secret Service. It contains a telephone, a television showing the news coverage, and several senior staff members. The president speaks to Vice President Dick Cheney, Dr. Rice, New York Governor George Pataki, and FBI Director Robert Mueller, and prepares brief remarks[2].

So, the time he "sat down calmly reading with the kiddies" was a whole 9 minutes (9:06 - 9:15).

Besides, what would you have wanted him to do? Jump up suddenly, screaming "We're under attack!!"??

as opposed to the low and medium-powered rifles you hear so much about.
