Eurabians aren't going to help Afghanistan. They're too comfortable on their Human Development Index perch and are content to let the brown people suffer. Hell, they wouldn't help the Balkans a few years ago and that was in their own back yard.

Yeah it's easy to get filthy rich when you got the entire U.S military mucking about making expensive oil, which makes Norway even richer. Especially considering that everyone has to pay MORE cause of more expensive oil! So basically we're waiting for the U.S to attack iran (which would probably stop some 50-75% of all oil from the middle east) increasing the prices to ~200$/brl. Which of course would make Norway even more filthy rich.


The irony? We can't spend any due to inflation fears :D

That's the same argument the government here is using to defend our expanded role in Afghanistan. Since we're a NATO AND a G8 country, we have a duty to the international community to pitch in with dirty jobs. I wish the opposition, who initiated the mission would stop trying to use it as a political tool.

Afghanistan is an important mission, more so than Iraq, and failure there would demonstrate the West's inability to effect lasting change in a country that actually attacked the West. Specifically New York and the Pentagon.

cheaphomemadeacid - No, the real irony is that oil only costs a few dollars/barrel to get out of the ground. More so if you're drilling offshore, sure, but no where near the current market price. Most of the cost of oil is pure profit, and the suppliers are happy to take any excuse (our "mucking around", for one) to make money.
