I had no idea that image was based on an actual person. I thought it was just a drawing.

That kind of sucks for that family.
2006-10-17 10:31:14 AM
I'd be proud if it was *my* relative.
2006-10-17 10:37:00 AM
It sucks for the family, but I'd be willing to bet that if the soldier saw that picture (the edited one) he'd probably laugh his ass off at it. Or he would if he's like any of the soldiers I've ever known.

FTFA: "The Army advised me that images taken by the Army become public domain, so there is not much that can be done..."

- End of story.

/Sounds like SHE needs a nice cup of STFU.
//I have an original of that poster, too (the WW2 one).

The Onanist: /Sounds like SHE needs a nice cup of STFU.

That's what I came in here to say, although reading the article it doesn't sound like she's "on a tear" about it. She is just expressing her displeasure. Fine. Won't change anything though.
2006-10-17 11:01:30 AM
Public domain. She already knows what I'll tell her, and she's probably tired of hearing it.
2006-10-17 11:18:45 AM
Which image is that again? There's about a half-dozen of those 'how about a nice cup of...' images floating around out there....
2006-10-17 11:24:33 AM
It was just a matter of time. Of course I'd always thought that the majority of those pictures were a composite of what the artist thought a soldier should look like.

The new use of Murray's face has upset his daughter, Stephanie Phillips of McNutt

Don't pay her no attention, she lives in a McNutt house.
2006-10-17 11:55:54 AM
Wow. I'm about 20 minutes from the relatives of the STFU dude. This is my new claim to fame.

It's nice to see Albany in the news for something that isn't related to politics or drugs (both are always bad news).
2006-10-17 12:11:56 PM
Will repeat it... as a work of the U.S. government, the original poster of the soldier was always public domain.

That says, here's the pic:

The stupid biatch grew up in Clifton Park. It's like Naperville of the North. Nothing more to see here.

Murray died Oct. 16, 2002, at age 87 in St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a battle with Parkinson's disease.

Looks like he finally finished his cup of shut the fark up.

2006-10-17 02:04:10 PM

2006-10-17 02:05:57 PM

Thanks a lot. Why didn't you just FedEx my ticket to hell to my home instead of posting it on a web forum?

/laughed my ass off
//ashamed of it

2006-10-17 02:06:42 PM
Nice one untrustworthy
2006-10-17 02:06:46 PM
Now I almost feel guilty for that exact poster being my wallpaper for the last year or so(I work customer service for an ISP), but not quite so guilty that I will replace it.

//drinking heavily until 2008
2006-10-17 02:07:41 PM
Why is it that when something get's posted from the Times Union we all show up to carry on about our albanyness? People from other regions don't do this do they?
2006-10-17 02:08:09 PM
I hear the O RLY owl thinks it's a hoot.

Wow, making fun of a dead WWII veteran with Parkinson's disease. Only on Fark.

Hey, it's just a sense in getting all shook up about it.
2006-10-17 02:11:16 PM
God, I am trying to care about this. Really.

Nope. Just can't do it.
2006-10-17 02:11:17 PM
Actually, Micheal J. Fox has a bit of a sense of humor about his condition. He mentioned one time on Conan that he was walking through his house one day when his daughter jumped out from behind a corner and scared the crap out of him. He said he scolded her because "...doesn't Daddy shake enough without you scaring the begeesus out of me?"

/paraphrased, as I don't remember the exact quote
2006-10-17 02:11:29 PM
We are not amused
2006-10-17 02:11:31 PM
God I love this place.

/Time to eat a kitten.
2006-10-17 02:11:34 PM
Yeah, I'm sure someone is making untold millions off that image. Uh-huh.

we are impressive
2006-10-17 02:12:07 PM
ChadM89: Michael J. Fox would like to have a word with you, untrustworthy.

That's fine. I can take it.

/If someone is deaf and gets Parkinsons, do they stutter in sign language?

It wasn't coffee.
It was homemade booze.

I don't know but I speak braile.

/old joke
2006-10-17 02:16:02 PM
Of course the family had no problem with the original tag line:

"Nothing satisfies your thirst like a nice hot cup of Jap blood."

"But that simple message has now been altered to read, "How About a Cup of Shut the (expletive) Up" on a Web site called, a sort of 21st-century gift shop."

You have to farking kidding me. "Sort of 21st-centry gift shop"? Does the fact that this newspaper has a website make it sort of a 21st-century newspaper? And last time I checked, the first time I bought something online was in 1995. Does that make the 20th century sort of 21 century?
