What?
Joe Pa is so old you can use him to fill in the blanks of the evolution chart.

Hosted by the Penn State Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), the lecture examined both schools of thought and concluded that both were true.

Not a real class people, just a guest lecturer coming to talk to the Christian Club.

Indeed. Although, football makes me sad today.

"We wanted to give people an opportunity to hear factual reasons behind intelligent design,"

That's gonna be one short-ass lecture.

Me too.
Eagles heartbreaker.

Who cares? As long as it's not a mandatory class, it's fine with me.

Article: Lamontia left religion out of his lecture

Uh, if you're discussing intelligent design, you are talking about religion.

LOL.... I would love to see an accredidated program which listed Intelligent Design as one of its core classes for graduation.

I call a penalty of the use of the word "Darwinism."

untrustworthy: Yea, I'm wondering about that too. Maybe he means he left religion specific ideas out. Meaning his topics were broad based covered all single god religions, ie leaving out the Adam and Eve story, etc.

Hmm, interesting. Your profile says you are from Newark, NJ - the most pleasant place in the world! I would much rather be here in "hicksylvania" than in Newark. In fact my list goes something like:

1. Hicksylvania
2. Suicide
3. Newark

/Why is New Jersey called the Garden State, is it to be ironic?

Too bad this is in the tech tab. THis would make a great flamewar on the main page.

Still waiting for this so called evidence of Intelligent Design. All I hear is the idea that life is too complex to have happened by chance, therefore it must have been created. It just goes to show they have a huge misunderstanding of what Evolution is, and that by following the laws of nature and natural selection, it's anything BUT random.

Newark != NJ

just sayin'.

Why is it that religious people can't look at what they are taugh with a critical eye and really ask questions?

Seems to me the ultimate truth comes with questionng and studying the world around you.

Come on... Noah's Ark?

Strip away all of that BS, and you would have a religion I could respect.

Dumbass.

Most of NJ looks like State College PA.

College is not just about knowledge, it's about encountering new ideas and considering them.

Hopefully these kids are smart enough to come to the realization that I.D. is total shiat. If not, well, they can move back to the rural towns they came from and keep votin Rep.

I like this, because in truth, creation and evolution really have nothing to do with each other. People just think you have to beleive one or the other, then the flame war begins...

I doubt he will. Have you read his piece about why he's never going to debate with any creationists or advocates of intelligent design? Basically he says that even giving them a forum to talk about their poorly supported tripe gives them the attention they're looking for.

The truth: there are stupid people, and they believe in intelligent design.

2006-10-16 07:38:03 PM
Once again, proving that these idiots know nothing about science. The sole purpose of science is to find the truth using objective, rational, repeatable methods.

The best thing that could happen for ID and/or Creationism fans is for science to actually prove that God exists. Then they'd have to start backing actual science for a change, instead of wild speculation and rhetoric, and the pure science crowd would take a hit to their collective pride as well. I couldn't possibly care less about it either way. I figure I'll find out for sure soon enough. Meanwhile, I need food... maybe some designer intelligently filled my fridge while I wasn't looking....

Lamontia left religion out of his lecture, proving points by showing political cartoons, short films and quotations from scientists and professors. He also provided common definitions and explained why they were true or false.

Just like you guys.

Damn it I go to Penn State. And dont let this say otherwise, PSU is a very liberal school.

Actually it can be a philosophical debate.

I still remember in my grade 3 class(in a catholic school) being taught that if science and the bible conflict regarding absolute facts - science is the one to believe. However there are many things that science can't explain, but religion does.

I believe there is room for both intelligent design and evolution - I don't think it's by complete random chance that things got started, but I also don't believe that whatever being may have been involved in the beginning is a micromanager.

2006-10-16 09:52:16 PM
I've heard the jury's still out on science.

you sir are an idiot. But then again you have a Ph.D from PSU, so thats a given. Visit NJ, before you make statements like that, even you should know something about research. Geez, I guess they give anyone a degree over there, eh?

Like an engineer is going to know anything about evolution OR intelligent design.

Penn State?

More like State Penn....

/Rutgers class of '88, I have to say that.....

2006-10-17 08:36:36 AM
Wow, there's some awfully sensitive people out there. And some awfully dumb ones:

- Spyyder was the "first honorary troll" for his comments about "hicksylvania"
- I have been to NJ many times before
- The irony that I was talking about was that a state that has some wonderfully pleasant areas also has Newark in it, and some really disgusting chemical industry also. Perhaps irony is not the right word - tragedy is more like it.

/Think before calling me a dumbass and an idiot next time - I was insulting Newark, NOT New Jersey

2006-10-17 09:15:49 AM
Bah, could that article have had any less information in it? It didn't even mention what type of engineer the guy was.

It's possible that the lecture wasn't as flameworthy as it seems at first glance - if the subject was that evolution explains how living organisms exist today, but that "God"/"Intelligent Designer of your Choice" created the initial sparks of life. It's hard to tell from that article though if thats what he was saying.

"I'm much more interested in talking about truth -- what really happened -- than science,"

That statement is just dumb on every level. Hopefully it was taken out of context.

On another note, why would anyone name an organisation "Crusade for Christ"? Is there some sort of bizaro world history I've missed where the Crusades were a good thing? Why don't they just call it "Jihad for Jesus"?
