The 5 is a huge freakin piece of interstae exchange. I'm soo glad I never have to get near it.

2006-10-09 01:42:05 AM
I hate when morans like this screw up traffic for hours. They couldn't just crash and die on a side street?

2006-10-09 01:45:21 AM
When are cops going to learn to "chase" with their radios, and stop getting people killed? Seriously.

(I already know the answer: Never.)

2006-10-09 01:48:01 AM
I love those tiered interchanges, but I only see 4 tiers in that link Gecko Gingrich posted. Hmm.

I wonder if they were jackin' it while driving.

When are people going to stop running from cops and getting themselves killed? Seriously.

When are people going to stop running from cops and getting themselves killed? Seriously.

When are cops going to stop terrorizing people and making them want to run? Seriously.

gradatim:
So...
He cops radio ahead to WHICH mystical force that stops the vehicle without risking anybody else? At SOME point, another cop has to make contact right? And if they ran the first time, they are likely to run again... So what exactly do you mean when you suggest chase with their radio?

Before you flame, I think that most police chases are unnecessary. I have actually done quite a bit of research on police chases and I am familiar with the statistics involving chases, the common things which start chases, the common results, and so on. I agree, that far too many chases are predicated on a simple traffic violation without any knowledge of the suspect having committed a life threatening felony. However, in this case you are talking about some dudes with machetes and an AK, as well as other 'tools'.

It is easy to monday morning quarterback any situation.

Good god, where the hell do all those lanes go? The S-Curves in Seattle aren't ANYTHING compared to that! O_o

"When are cops going to stop terrorizing people and making them want to run? Seriously."

Poor guys... With their machetes and assault rifles... Theymust've been terrorized...

NuclearWinter:
I had to look real close, but there DOES appear to be 5 layers. I think the bottom is more of a service drive or surface street, though.

You funny.

2006-10-09 02:05:08 AM
You know, this really really gets to me.

I have to put up with all the traffic around the High Five, rush hour is the worse. And when something cool finally happens, I'm not there to see it.

That would have been SO cool to watch.

2006-10-09 02:05:17 AM
the High Five is HUGE! I've been on it many-a-time when I lived in the Dallas area.

So why a Houston link when its Dallas? Why not a Dallas link?

2006-10-09 02:08:07 AM
Great Janitor: That would have been SO cool to watch.

The question is, would you have inserted the "ooooooooooooooo... *splat* Wah,wah, wahhhhh" sounds while watching?

"Hey, you broke a law, stop so I can arrest you."

Yep, That's terrorizing them alright. Why can't we just let them break the law in peace? Right?

And if you get back on the radios thing... what do you think these fine young men would've done after the cop down the road tried to stop them? Perhaps run?

2006-10-09 02:12:04 AM

The question is, would you have inserted the "ooooooooooooooo... *splat* Wah,wah, wahhhhh" sounds while watching?

Well, watching it, it would have happened so fast that I wouldn't have the time to think of it. But if I anyone has a video of it, I'd gladly watch it while adding the sounds.

Saul good is funny and these guys are dumbarses.

Why run if you've nothing to hide?

2006-10-09 02:18:34 AM
The names of the victims were not immediately released. Police are conducting a review of the chase after watching video from the dashboard camera of the squad car, Dallas police Sgt. Gil Cerda said.

The only victims are the passenger and the people that had to clean the people off the road.

Sorry, but if you run from the cops and get yourself killed, you're not a victim.

2006-10-09 02:22:09 AM
seriously, did someone try to make these assault gun carrying machete wielding idiots into victims?

very funny.
comedy gold :)

That place is right next to my GF's apt... maybe she can go take some pictures of the grease stains for us?

I have no sympathy for the runners. Some chases might be unnecessary, but if the cops stop chasing, then EVERYONE's going to run for any damned reason. It's the runners that get people killed, not the cops.

I get off from work in less than six hours, and I would offer to take the pics, but sadly that's rush hour, and that area's so bad I look for alternate ways out of the Dallas area.

2006-10-09 02:36:34 AM
I was working the overnight traffic anchor shift when that happened. You should have heard the scanner chatter. I've never heard any police officer sound that freaked out before.

If it is anything like the horrible warbling of local news anchor chatter, I would MUCH rather not hear it.

Ok, I'm all for cops stopping these guys at all costs. I don't care if they got killed running. They obviously weren't on their way to church or a fund raiser.

The only people I feel sorry for are the cops for having to do an lengthy investigation, the motorists who had to wait while they did it, and the city populas since some crack pot lawyer is going to try to get them to change their chase policy because of this.

2006-10-09 03:56:11 AM
well i don't care if they got killed running, but it's shiatty that they have to slow down traffic for everyone else. remember kids, if you want to commit suicide, do it in the privacy of your own home. you're right, no one cares about you. so they're not going to care about you when your stupid ass is causing them to be 2 hours late getting home either.

Hmmm, apartments just north of 635 probably means they were off of Mahan road. If you live on Mahan and are outside at 2:40 in the morning you are doing one of 3 things: Buying drugs, selling drugs or trying to get the hell away from there.

Aw c'mon, they might have been prowling around those apartments looking for the "swap your guns, burglar tools and fast getaway bike for candy" program.. right? right?

Otherwise, it was simply a case of those meany police impinging upon their 'right' to stroll around carrying that stuff.....

burber: he 5 is a huge freakin piece of interstae exchange. I'm soo glad I never have to get near it.

It can be bad but it is SO much better than the interchange it replaced. I have driven it every day pretty much for the last 8 years.

Now the traffic mostly backs up onto the huge over passes (where it is supposed to) instead of the main highways.

NuclearWinter: I love those tiered interchanges, but I only see 4 tiers in that link Gecko Gingrich posted. Hmm.

Check one more time. Don't forget to count the ground level.

* Houston link probably cause dallasnews.com requires (free) subscription to their site (and they are !@#$(&@# with popups)

* Mahard, not Mahan

I want to see the video of that. I don't need the 'Ogrish' version, the 'Cops' version will do just fine.

Submitter here: Because the Dallas news sources are all stuck on themselves, much like Dallas. ;)

Old Pic. All the main lanes are open now. Only thing left is HOV lanes going over the top, I think that is the 5th tier.

And for anyone complaining about the high-five ... its waaaaaay better than the clover-leaf interchange that was there before.

Maham, actually. And I concur. Shiatty area, but not as shiatty as the High 5 during rush hour. I am surprised more people haven't gone over the edge and died. That aerial shot does not give you a true impression.

2006-10-09 10:19:13 AM
Holy crap! Every time I drive over the high five I think about those farking idiots on their crotch rockets that don't respect other traffic, and I imagine how easy it would be for one to fly over the barrier. And then it actually happens. What a huge drop.

Those interchanges in Texas. When I was in Austin I could never figure out which way I was going. Most of the time I could see where I wanted to be but had no idea how to get to it. Then on top of that you have people going 100 MPH and then slamming on brakes all the time (this was more towards Dallas). I saw tons of rear-end accidents.

I hated driving in TX.

I actually liked driving in the NJ/Newark area and that's suppose to be where all the bad drivers are.

...blah blah blah...scary Dallas freeway intersection....not like I'd ever go over--

Holy COW! That's the 75/635 interchange! I've been over that one!

ohh....ok just sit there..the squeegee is on the way.

Is the bike ok? Is it for sale? Sure hope the bike is ok...

Haha. I work in an office building at the 635/75 interchange, literally yards from the High Five. I've been looking for the grease/blood stains on my way to work each morning. Sadly, I haven't seen any.

The High Five really is a monstronsity...but it has greatly helped things. You've got two major highways converging...there isn't much else you can do to make it better.

2006-10-09 07:32:41 PM
I work near high five when i'm back from school. it's a doozy- lots of overpasses and such but it really does help traffic.
