Blue Ringed Octopus' are extremely deadly. The venom is 10,000 more potent than cyanide.

Stupid parents didn't teach their equally stupid kids that farking with nature can kill you. Idiots.

I think they are the only venemous octopus, but all of them can give some nasty bites with their beaks of DOOM!

Who lets their child "mess with" an octopus?

Yup. We let out 3-ry-olds play with a sea creature we know nothing about.

Sheesh!

Sharks, stingrays, and now venomous octopus. Whats next, lobster attacks, revenge of the King crabs? Forget PETA, I'm beginning to think the species of the ocean are finally fed up with the human overlord's. Swim at your own risk people, tomorrow I'm buying a swimming pool.

Octopus are pretty fun to play with. The suckers feel really cool as they crawl up your arm.

But seriously, have the parents never seen Octopussy?

2006-10-08 01:01:13 PM
If only Australia had some kind of wildlife expert who took on dangerous creatures such as this one. Oh well.

Darkfalz Is every animal is Australia venomous?

From what I understand, pretty much, yeah!

I watched one of those wildlife shows a couple of years ago, and the host made the claim that Australia had the most venomous creature of all types. The most venomous spider, the most venomous snake, the most venomous fish, etc. And now, it seems, the most venomous octopus.

Don't know how true that claim is as I have never done the research but anecdotally it sure seems that way.

Go figure, huh?

Actually a lot of Australia's creatures are no more venomous than those you would find on other continents. The problem, however, is that the venom used by a lot of Australian critters is exremely toxic to simians (including us).

If you were say, a dog or cat then these things would be about as venomous as creatures found in Africa or Asia, or the Americas. It is a big mystery why Australian creatures evolved venom that is so toxic specifically to humans and apes and monkeys.

There is no such thing as evolution. God just hates australians.

For all who don't know, the blue ringed octopus is a tiny creature usually no more than 2 inches in size.

One-Armed Badger

Either that or the Brits really underestimated the survival skills of convicts :-)

Australia is God's Evolutionary playground. Seriously, outside of Madascar, the continent/island has got to have the world's weirdest assortment of critters.

Of course, I grew up in Southern Africa, so we had our own colorful array of cute, cuddly and absolutely deadly animals. Got bit by a Black Mamba? Good luck. You have between 30 minutes and 2 hours (depending on your weight and the location of the bite) to get an anti-venin shot before the White Light Tunnel appears, and Grandma welcomes you home.

:)

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus' garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you.
