He was 72. How unexpected could it have been?

dudes, it's how an actor wants to die - with an exit.

and now this reminds me of a story of 20 years ago.

swear to god and/or xenu, this happened to me:

three months before my wedding, two friends of mine in my theater group were going to sing some duets. one of the two friends was doing a musical. he dropped dead of a brain aneurysm mid-song in the last act (he was only 36).

i'll never farking forget that. ever ever ever.

so there ya go. it happens. and you don't have to be 72.

Gene Janson
Actor - filmography
(2000s) (1990s) (1980s)

1. Normal (2003) (TV) .... Church Usher
2. Road to Perdition (2002) (uncredited) .... Chief of Police
3. My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) .... Sport Magazine Guy
4. While You Were Sleeping (1995) .... Man in Church
5. Blink (1994) .... Mr. Getz
6. The Kill Reflex (1989) .... Ray ... aka Soda Cracker (USA)
7. The Blues Brothers (1980) .... The Good Ole Boys

Whatever you may think of him, he was one of "The Good Ole Boys"... and that counts for a lot in my book!

I once died on stage four shows a week for a three week run.

"He died doing what he loved, which was being on the stage and in a play he was so proud of."

LOL, so trite

Don't you know? 72 is the new 50.

2006-10-06 06:55:49 PM
Yes, truly commited to the character.

heinousjay: wow, that's almost like... rain. on your wedding day, no less.

The ironic thing about that song is that there is not one example of irony in it. I doubt she did that on purpose though.

2006-10-06 06:58:22 PM
Oh the ironity of it!

I don't have anything relevant to add. I just wanted to vote for Extanium

36 is half of 72. Perhaps it works in multiples or fractions?

2006-10-06 07:00:49 PM

He unexpectedly died on stage ? If he expected to die on stage, then he should have got into another line of work, or at least a better acting coach.

I expect to die surrounded by ten of the most beautiful Hollywood actresses, all naked and trying to breastfeed me.

I believe 'having one thousand spoons when all you need is a knife' is a decent example of irony.

2006-10-06 07:03:06 PM
That sounds like a Columbo episode.

2006-10-06 07:03:16 PM
"There is a certain poetic irony to his death," Christopher Janson said. "He died doing what he loved, which was being on the stage and in a play he was so proud of."

Excepting that there was absolutely nothing ironic or poetic about it.

2006-10-06 07:04:44 PM
Janson portrayed a fictional former U.S. president who dies unexpectedly.

Jack Bauer was framed.

/a vote for me is a vote for the next season of "24" to start before friggin' January

Actually it's an example a frustrating situation, not irony.

2006-10-06 07:05:59 PM
It's a shame, but at least he wasn't in the Life and Death of James Dean. I hear the end is messy, to say the least.

2006-10-06 07:06:02 PM
He was a Good Ole Boy.

No, it's not. It's just an unfortunate circumstance.

Maybe ironic, definitely darkly poetic.

2006-10-06 07:15:20 PM
Irony would be you need a knife and then someone stabs you.

2006-10-06 07:16:20 PM
I'm not sure how this is irony, more like "bound to happen" It is like saying that it is ironic that the gravedigger is buried in the same graveyard he worked in. And besides I want to reuse my graphic.

Dick Shawn, comedian, MAD MAD MAD WORLD, The Producers, dropped dead on stage during his stand up act.

content.answers.com

Shawn was performing at the University of California at San Diego in 1987 when he suddenly fell forward on the stage during one of his spiels about the Holocaust. The audience, of course, laughed, thinking it was just a part of his odd schtick. In actuality, the 63-year-old married actor with four children had suffered a fatal heart attack. A not surprising end for this thoroughly offbeat and intriguing personality.

This thread needs a pic of the Good Ole Boys, I can't picture them other than their loud-mouthed leader.

I just got Chinatown today via Netflix, i am going to double feature it with L.A. Confidential. My girl is a camera assistant/film snob, and she hasn't seen either of these yet! She will flip, we both love noir/crime flicks.

shanrick: OK you Irony Nazis, try to talk your way out of this one.

It's not irony. It's a freaking COINCIDENCE.

Why people think that "irony" means "strange coincidence" I'll never understand. But it doesn't.

He was playing a president? It would be ironic if he were portraying a Republican but in real life was a staunch Democrat. It would be ironic if his character starts a war, but in real life, he is a pacifist. Irony is the incongruity that results when what happens is the opposite of what one would expect to happen.

On Fark, "irony" is defined as an adjective which is never applicable.
