I don't get the headline, but my Dad once drove from one town to another, in reverse. And he's not French.

The transmission failed, and reverse was the only gear still working. It was only 20 miles or so.

Bad/stupid drivers can be funny. Last night some woman made a left turn -- into oncoming traffic. LOL. Everyone was honking and yelling and laughing until the dumb biatch was finally able to back up and move over to the other side of the street. (There was a median, so she couldn't simply swerve over.)
