That's why I am glad I walk to work.

You guys are freaking chumps. I ride my bike everywhere and I don't depend on oil at all. Stop being fat fatties and do what I do. If I can do it, anyone can - no matter your lifestyle or region.

/not true at all, but obligatory

Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, Chef's attorney would certainly want you to believe that his client wrote "Stinky Britches" ten years ago. And they make a good case. Hell, I almost felt pity myself! But, ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!

Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

If I were one of those sickos at the Big Oil companies, I would seriously reconsider this move.

Haliburton and Dick Cheney need to keep their big oil friends out of my pockets.

I wonder if we can work in an "oil hits the anus" and "Mark Foley" reference here.

2006-10-02 09:00:26 PM
wait, wasn't Chavez supposed to INCREASE production to help those poor Americans who are having our wallets assulted by Bush and his oil buddies?

who would have thought a man with such dignity would do such a thing!

/i felt dirty writing that last sentence.

Mmmm. Light sweet crude.

2006-10-02 09:01:18 PM
Well, between summer driving season being over, and the obvious fact that the limiting bottleneck on what can be delivered/supplied is not what can be pumped out of the ground, but our capacity for refining it, why should a slight yet normal, seasonal decrease in supply of crude change prices?

That being said, I'm going to insist that oil is an abiotic product until it runs out.

2006-10-02 09:01:52 PM
Ha ha, Chavez called Bush the devil over two weeks ago and people are still sore asses about it.
\Thats right mutha fukkaz, communist's are storming the country through your gas tank!

I don't have a car, and ride my bike everywhere.

But y'know what?

If I want citrus fruits, or miso, or damn near pretty much anything once winter hits Michigan, it's going to be shipped to me. That usually involves oil for the transportation.

When oil prices go up, everyone's affected, even if you don't drive a car. And God Help You if you're on natural gas for heat - I was in a 2 bedroom apartment last year (for three people, and our kitchen was just a tiled corner of the dining/living room) and I was amazed at how much prices skyrocketed. And I was lucky I wasn't living in a house like the two years before that, where I'd be paying to heat a basement -and- a living room, dining room, -and- kitchen.

But if you want to keep on with the high and mightiness, by all means, do it.

Just out of curiosity, does Fark choose banner ads on the basis of "most annoying first"? Or is money involved somehow?

Farking OPEC bastards!

2006-10-02 09:04:50 PM

Well, this here's a story about a man named Chav,
The Poor Socialist barely kept his country fed;
And then one day he looked at Bush and cooed,
"I'm gonna cut the output on my barrels of crude !"

Oil, that is. Black Gold. Venezuela Tea.

maxx2112: I wonder if we can work in an "oil hits the anus" and "Mark Foley" reference here.

I submitted a drop in oil price article with a Mark Foley reference in the headline. It's up to TFers' votes for it to go green.

Who understood this:

"High inventories are building even in the face of lower runs and macroeconomic figures are also coming out bearish. . . . This is a continuation of the most recent weakness that we've seen."

?

2006-10-02 09:08:03 PM
A.) Cash in by raising prices, then selling oil stocks/commodities high
B.) Drop prices artificially because you know you had the reserves all along
C.) Repurchase oil stocks/commodities at lower price with fat-cash made in step A
D.) Repeat

Now you understand why the economy has "cycles".

Can I just say that I'm looking forward to turning off the AC and opening the windows for the first time since May?

And no way in hell am I going to ride a bike 7 miles to work during the summer. When they get the South Brevard Al Tuttle Trail finished, biking won't involve risking death on our shoulderless roads.

/woo!

2006-10-02 09:10:20 PM
the busy summer driving season is over, so now they can lower it, so it can rise again during xmas

"I submitted a drop in oil price article with a Mark Foley reference in the headline. It's up to TFers' votes for it to go green."

You still got a chance, what with all the repeat magic around here lately.

2006-10-02 09:10:57 PM
Well, it was fun while it lasted, the whole $2 gas prices and all... Back to being financially raped.

2006-10-02 09:13:16 PM
"High inventories are building even in the face of lower runs and macroeconomic figures are also coming out bearish. . . . This is a continuation of the most recent weakness that we've seen."

Supply is up.. so prices go down. Mix the effect of whatever other macroeconomic figures they are taking in account.. and, to use the figure of speech, it's a bear market for oil prices.

2006-10-02 09:16:10 PM
This planet has plenty of oil. We're not running out any time soon (shale oil production is actually reaching the point of being quite cost effective, for if and when we decide to start producing it). Still would be far more intelligent to use whatever resources necessary to develop the technology to stop using fossil fuel for everything, though.

2006-10-02 09:16:49 PM
wow. it only took five posts for some douchebag to gloat about being able to ride his bike to work.

it'd be nice.

too bad all of the houses within five miles of my office cost $2 million+. bah.

waiting4godot

I thought it was more like, supply is down, but demand is down further. Sprinkle in some macroeconomic mumbo-jumbo and the result is low oil prices

2006-10-02 09:19:21 PM
xtex -

I used to bike to work, 16 miles each way. I work 12 hour shifts these days, though, and spending 3 hours a day commuting on top of 12 hours working just wasn't practical for me. I do miss doing it, though.

2006-10-02 09:19:32 PM
Come on, oil prices! Don't stop! We are sooo close to $1.99. Remember when that 1st number was below 2? Well, its almost going to happen, and then the price will go to $4. Alright!

/Actually filled my tank up for once
//When was the last time 0 was the first number in price?

2006-10-02 09:21:06 PM

Oil prices decline on... *breaks Magic 8 ball*... reduction of output. Wait, what?

Does that mean this will be the last of the damn "Magic 8 ball" headlines?

/probably not

2006-10-02 09:21:59 PM
Sheesh. Submitter reaches a new low in self-imposed stupidity.

1. OPEC has a long history of announcing production cuts for its members, who immediately cheat. High prices produce more supply, which has led to huge oil stocks (inventories) here in the US.

2. Venezuela announced an intention to cut production. This is today.

3. Domestic crude stocks are still quite high. Refineries can only take so much at a time. So-called "speculators" realize this, want to cut losses, dump crude inventories now. Further increasing supply relative to demand.

The selloff continues, and will for a while.

If it is a conspiracy, it's a damned poor one.

bwahhaahha! I haven't given a damn about the price of gas since I moved to downtown Chicago, sold the car, and got a place near an EL (subway) stop. Can't believe the savings! Hope I never have to own a car evar evar again!

2006-10-02 09:22:45 PM
Thanks to people like me people have become more aware and reduced their gas consumption. Awareness FTW

So you live in a cave (wood/concrete shipping uses oil)
Have no Electricity (Oil and Coal are still our main electricity generators)
Never use plastics ( you guessed it - Petroleum based!)
I could go on, but you get the point.

Either you're a bear, or you're full of shiat.
