Now that I'm feeling quite morose, my final hours would include thus:

An early morning run to watch the sunrise.
Hopefully a shower alone, and a good shave, and of course a great shat.
and a beer if they'd permit me.

Id take a last beer over a last meal any day.

Well, its not really a penalty, it's killing someone for killing someone else. State sanctioned killing for murder that was not sanctioned. It's not self defense, so the death penalty is pretty hard to defend. If they just called it revenge, then maybe I could give them that, but apparently some people enjoy calling it justice.

Just look at the list of countries that have the death penalty. Nice group.

/ I actually think life sentences in small cells are far more cruel than death. Ordinary, innocent people die every day. Not really making a point if you ask me.

"Convicted of shooting an Akron man in 1994, Dennis blamed the victim for disobeying an order not to move during a robbery."

He's got a point.... If that dude hadn't moved, none of this would've happened.... Stupid victim.

The death penalty: Because two wrongs make a right.

Anyone have any stats as to how much it costs taxpayers to execute someone (with the 13 appeals or whatever they get) vs. how much it costs to keep them in prison for life?

2006-10-02 04:25:58 PM

The death penalty: Because two wrongs make a right.

Boy, you're BRILLIANT. Let's stop imprisioning kidnappers and fining thieves, since there's clearly NO DIFFERENCE between crime and punishment.

2006-10-02 04:25:59 PM
There was one entry on that list where the inmate asked that his last meal be given to a homeless man. Pretty stand-up for a guy on death row.

It seems stand-up until you realize that the person who eats the last meal is, by law, the one who gets executed. At least that's what they taught us at Georgetown.

2006-10-02 04:26:38 PM
If it was my last meal and it had to be foodstuffs found in the prison cafeteria, I would choose the following.

Egg-salad
Baked Beans
Sausage and Sauerkraut
Milk
Chili (with beans - EXTRA spicy)

And a LOT of ex-lax.

I don't feel sorry for any of these assholes. Up to me, I'd see them pulled apart, torn to shreds, and hand fed, face first into the nearest lion cage.
Only an idiot feels the slightest bit of empathy for these muderers.

2006-10-02 04:28:14 PM
I found that article highly depressing and in a sense, disgusting. Sick people do sick things and it doesn't change my opinion to be against the death penalty, but it does show it in a new light that you don't normally think about... shocking, in a way.

2006-10-02 04:29:11 PM
I almost forgot. If by some chance the method of execution is to be electrocution, I would have a special request of the priest.

I would ask him to sit on my lap when they pull the switch.

The fact that we still have a death penalty shows how barbaric we really are.

Isn't it interesting that the people who oppose the death penalty seem to usually harbor two EXACTLY OPPOSITE points of view:

1: That the Death Penalty is "barbaric" and "inhuman",
and
2: That they support life imprisionment because it's "worse" than execution.

Make up your minds, guys. Which is it? Are you opposed to the death penalty because it's cruel, or because it's not cruel enough?

"There was one entry on that list where the inmate asked that his last meal be given to a homeless man. Pretty stand-up for a guy on death row."

I like the John Wayne Gacy comment...when asked about his last meal he asked FOR a HOMELESS man---

Cannibal humor.

2006-10-02 04:32:49 PM
What a barbaric society we live in. One day students are going to read in the history books that the U.S. had the death penalty in 2006, and they are going to be shocked and appalled.

This country is farked up. Top-notch economy and technology and yet some aspects of our laws and our culture are primitive.

The death penalty: Cuz a bullet costs a few cents, while a lifetime in prison costs $906,000.

From the list of last meals Grandemadaca linked:

Two 16 oz. ribeyes, one lb. turkey breast (sliced thin), twelve strips of bacon, two large hamburgers with mayo, onion, and lettuce, two large baked potatoes with butter, sour cream, cheese, and chives, four slices of cheese or one-half pound of grated cheddar cheese, chef salad with blue cheese dressing, two ears of corn on the cob, one pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream, and four vanilla Cokes or Mr. Pibb

Doesn't he realize that'll clog his arteries?

i was reading somewhere last week a list of executed inmate's last words...and like 3/4 of them were still claiming "i didn't do it" I would hate to die with a lie on my lips.

...because our justice system is flawless and 100% of people convicted are guilty.

Gee, some reading comprehension would be nice. No one ever said that punishment is wrong. The argument is that state-sponsored killing is morally wrong and constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. Rotting in a cell for the rest of their lives? All for it.

My mind is made up. It is barbaric. Plain and simple. You only have to look at all the other nations that use this practise to have that statement justified. None of them are exactly a paragon of civilisation.

Never mind the fact that at ~$1mill/zappage, for the cost of one execution you could lock up 3-4 people for life....

Since the last meal request gets recorded forever I would ask for some "I'm innocent" pie smothered in "please don't kill me " ice cream. If I have room left over maybe a bit of "My God you are going to kill an innocent man" tea.

I wonder how many bleeding heart liberals change their views on the death penality the moment that somebody very close to them is brutally murdered.

Or how many pro-death conservatives would if someone close to them was wrongfully executed.

2006-10-02 04:53:11 PM
The only people who deserve to die are women who ride with Ted Kennedy, Laura Bush's ex-boyfriends, old people who hunt with Dick Cheney, Vince Foster, and people who use the term "bleeding heart liberals."

2006-10-02 04:54:33 PM
I wonder if as a last meal, someone can request a Pink Taco or 3?
