After reading some comments, if this was just an insurance scam, I hope karma pays this guy back handily, because those poor animals didn't do anything wrong. :/

So sad... this is the worst thing I have read all week.

ALF/ELF people need to be shot down like dogs.

2006-09-29 04:19:36 PM
It used to be that PETA took the time to adopt the animals before they euthanized them, I think they are just getting lazy.

Who can take a reptile?
Melt it in to goo.
Take a can of paint and spread their propaganda too...

The Arson Man can.
The Arson Man can because he mixes hate with love and makes the world less good.

Sorry... I had nuthin

btw, those animals would all be alive today if only cats and dogs could use a door knob properly.

It sounds like "Jewish Lightning" to me. (Torching the place for the insurrance money), then blame it on the animal nuts.

If meat is murder, then murder tastes pretty damn good.

Eh, I may have gotten to it first, but you found the appropriate picture...so we'll call it even.

And if you truly want someone out of your mind:

"Don't say revenge, don't say revenge..."

The Dude: It wasn't the activists that set the place on fire, man, it was the store owner. It's like what Lenin said... you look for the person who will benefit, and, uh, uh...

Donny: I am the walrus.

The Dude: You know what I'm trying to say...

Walter Sobchak: That farking biatch...

Donny: I am the walrus.

Walter Sobchak: Shut the fakr up, Donny! V.I. Lenin! Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov!

/that is all.

DigDugDang: A man on the fringes of society commits an act most of us consider apalling. How ironic.

Nnnnnooooo ... I don't think you've quite got the idea of "irony" yet. Go back and take the class again.

Better 'splain myself with a butchered quote...

"Jim... the needs of the many animals (not sold in the future by this and hopefully other petshop owners)... outweigh the needs of the few (the animals on fire at the moment)"

Twisted, but hey, logical.

it's very strange to me, though I don't fear snakes, that I first thought of how sad it was that the snake got melted.

It's strange too. I've never heard of a snake *melting*
hmmph.

That is not irony, that is hypocrisy.

2006-09-29 04:29:36 PM
Wait a minute... their problem was not that the reptiles were exploited, but that the mice were exploited beccause they were fed to reptiles?! Have these individuals ever heard of a food chain? Do they want the pet shop to only keep vegetarian boa constrictors?

When I worked at Whole Foods, there were regulars who always bought this vegitarian dog/cat food for their pets. I always felt sorry for their animals, and was of the opinion that those customers should keep herbivorous pets like rabbits if they found flesh-eating so offensive.

charmed1782: dj_bigbird: Hey...Silvara has given me an idea. I'll start killing people to protest murder!

You could bomb abortion clinics to protest murder.

Hmm, kill someone who themselves kills thousands? Makes perfect sense, to anyone who can do simple math.

2006-09-29 04:32:07 PM
As an animal rights advocate, I would like to put forth the possibility, not remote, that these people are simply freaks. Advocating animal rights just happens to be the venue with which they display their freakishness.

Burning animals alive is a singularily grotesque and moronic approach to activism.

In short, they are half-wits and assholes of the LOWEST order.

2006-09-29 04:32:53 PM
Boy, next time I murder somebody, I'm gonna spraypaint something like, "MURDER IS WRONG!" on the wall. That'll throw the cops off.

The people who started the fire were not animal-loving people. Its just a sick joke.

Kinda like when a black church gets vandalized with swastikas, K's, and pentagrams (which happened here in Austin a few years ago). The only thing that gets reported on and talked about is "white surpremicists" and "racism". When in fact, if you know just a *tiny* amount about white surpemecists, you'd know they hate pentagrams just as much as the star of david.

Its just a sick joke. And people fell for it

Jeebus! Now I'll have to spend the next twenty minutes trying to get the image of what I think a melted snake looks like out of my mind. Poor critters...animals rights terrorists or insurance scam...either way they all died in vain.

/Tonight I'm feeding my fish two extra pellets.

I think this needs to be repeated:

"'This case is peculiar, because there is no evidence any animals were freed, which is certainly contradictory to that message,' Cambridge Fire Captain Gerry Mahoney said. 'It's cause for alarm, because usually animal rights groups attempt to set the animals free.'"

Letting the animals die in there doesn't sound like a PETA protest or the like. I'm with the poster here that speculated it was an insurance fire.

2006-09-29 04:38:04 PM
It needs to be said:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Benjamin Franklin's Contributions to the Conference on February 17 (III) Fri, Feb 17, 1775

2006-09-29 04:40:23 PM
Yes, muck4doo, it does need to be said. But maybe you intended to post in the "Gonzales is an asshole" thread?

Animals, whose lives are precious, were killed needlessly. How ironic.

Sorry, but I hate when people mention Karma. It doesn't exist. if so, Then those animals did do something to deserve this. If the whole deal of karma is you reap what you sow.. action/reaction, then your comment about "those poor animals didn't do anything wrong" is faulty. Clearly they did something that made "karma" come back to them and toast them up.

I'm going to protest defication by crapping all over the place!

2006-09-29 04:49:36 PM
Insurance fire.

Mark my words: In the coming years, hundreds of insurance scam fires will be covered by "ELF" and "PETA" graffiti. It has probably already happened...like maybe in this case.

Yup. Even the Fire Captain is suspicious.

Looks like about three people commenting about this actually RTFA - including the dumbass submitter, who stated speculation as fact. There is no evidence yet that the crime was committed by an animal rights group.

Whoever did it and for whatever reason really needs to leave the planet, though.

dj_bigbird:

Hey...Silvara has given me an idea. I'll start killing people to protest murder!

I've got an idea too... I'm going to protest high gas prices by bying a gas-guzzler!

A more accurate analogy would be to protest high gas prices by blowing up drilling platforms and refineries, which would drive the price even higher (to a level presumably noticed as problematic by the purportedly uber-wealthy oil company execs). The point of such ridiculous protest tactics (killing the family pet of a scientist who works with animal test subjects; murdering abortionists; etc) is the whole 'how would you feel' aspect. It's both ridiculous and ineffective. Buying a gas guzzler only hurts the 'protester' more, and has none of the 'how would you feel' sentiment.

I never understood the ones who attach laboratories that use animals in drug development or cancer research. I guarantee you if they got a disease that was cured by that same drug they'd use it.

They might not. Some people do put their personal convictions before their physical health. Jehovah's Witnesses who refuse potentially life-saving blood transfusions on the basis that drinking/consuming blood is prohibited by biblical law, for example. There may well be animal rights advocates (deep ecologists or Earth First!ers, perhaps) who would do the same, refusing treatment by medication developed through animal testing. Maybe the evil MSM is refusing to cover those stories to perpetuate the animal testing industry or some crap.

ARF (Animal Rights Freaks) is this an actual term???

Back when I was in an anti-tumor lab researching the cure for cancer (and at $8 an hour, I think you can see why they are still looking). The lab, designed for 'work' with dogs and goats, was also called ARF (Animal Research Facility). We just called it the 'rat house.' Since, after spending millions on the building, they decided that mice would be much more cost effective. They even had this AWESOME 'walk-in' autoclave.

2006-09-29 04:57:18 PM
what? that's like.....surrendering civil liberty to protect our freedom. or propping up puppet dictators to spread democracy. these people should be in politics.

plus one point for linguistic irony, yes by definition and in a vacuum that would be ironic.
minus one point for real irony, unfortunately animal rights activists put animals at risk so often it's neither surprising, unexpected, nor contradictory.

so nice effort smitty, but if i was the irony police i'd write you a ticket.

2006-09-29 05:00:40 PM
Well, to be entirely fair...

The PETA and ELF fantatic activists are indeedy nutjobs, as are any fanatics, so no posts so far have been off about that.

Insurance scam or stupidly horrific attempt to "save" animals, whomever did it still deserves to be punished (now the rational side is thinking jail sentence, though, instead of being permanently sealed inside a plastic tank set inside a burning building).

So, so far...the thread isn't too far off.

dumpstergirl Apparently they do. I mean, these are the people who refuse to buy their cats nonvegetarian cat food, when cats HAVE to eat meat. (Dogs CAN be kept on a vegetarian diet, although insert headline cliche here.) Way to be nice to animals, idiots.

dumpstergirl:

I was, briefly, one of those idiots who made vegetarian (vegan) food for a cat. Then I thought about it. I certainly wasn't doing my cat, the carnivore, any favors by switching his diet. So, I was really doing this for my own conscience. Well, I didn't see the point in making a being I was directly responsible for suffer a lifetime of bowel problems, just for my own "piece of mind". So, needless to say, I switched him back to a more proper diet. He seemed much happier not having the shiats all the time.

Actually, lions (which are from the cat family) can and have been raised on a vegetarian diet, with no bad side effects. Do a Google search for "vegetarian lion". I think it's just a matter of what they're fed as cubs.

I wouldnt say cats are completely carnivorious...

My cat, when I grew up on the farm, eat the lawn grass regularly (to keep regular, I assume.) Now I live in the city and my kittens eat raw spinach. I dont feed it to them, they steal mine from salads and what not. It is all their idea.
